That's kind of where I was thinking too. They are kind of perfect trade partners. Avs have young prospects that wont hurt their current roster that the Wings need. And they could use Mantha and make their top two unstoppable. I could certainly see a Byram for Mantha swap

Fair. Agreed that might not be the perfect trade but I do think Mantha could be flipped for a high end prospect (close to NHL ready) and a high pick

I like that thought. Who would you think would be a target to acquire Mantha and what kind of return could the Wings expect?

To me he just doesn't really line up with the wings winning window. Personally I think it 5 years before the Wings are getting serious about winning again. By that time he's 30. Especially if he has a good finish to this year or a good full season next year his value would be very high. They'd be able to flip him for pieces (premium assets only) that line up better with their window.

To be honest I didn't put much thought into the actual contract values (except for the Krug signing). It was more just about having the players I thought would be there.

Avs going for the cup Habs retooling
I'm completely agreeing with Price's contract being bad and way too long, not much to argue there. But you can't seriously tell me at, least for the next 3 years, you think Grubauer and Francouz are better goalies than Carey Price... Come on I know you think this proposal is bad and giving up Byram (who has not looked great since being drafted by the way) might be too much but the Avs get substantially better right now if Price is their goalie.

Avs going for the cup Habs retooling
Because Price is still a top 5 goalie in the league for the next 5 years and the Avs have tons of room. The back end up his contract will be brutal and granted it's not great even now but you know what makes that easier to swallow, a cup ring.

If they want Kreider it'll take a really good prospect or a 1st rounder. Look what Hayes got at the deadline last year and Kreider is better than Hayes

What is Mantha's trade value?
Eberle is not a good comparison in my opinion being 4 years older. But I guess I see what you're saying, though I still disagree with your value of Mantha I might be shooting too high. If he has a full season next year and puts up 35+ goals and 70 points being 26 I think he could quite easily get a high pick and high end prospect. I'll admit that is a big "if" considering is injury history and being on the Wings who are awful.

Det using cap space as asset
This might not be the perfect deal but I think Detroit would be missing an opportunity not to use their cap space as an asset. Assuming the contract they take on his only 2-3 years which isn't in their winning window by any means. They don't have a ton of assets player wise to move and creating space for other teams is valuable. If they can pick up a decent prospect (or pick) or two doing this i think it's a no brainer. Only downside I see is tying up roster spots for young guys which can be a pretty big downside having a log jam

What is Mantha's trade value?
Just curious to get everyone's opinion here. I'm a big Wings fan and a huge Mantha fan but at the same time I really do think trading him can help their rebuild. If they find the right trade partner and Mantha has a great finish to this year or a great full season next year what sort of return could the Wings look for?
I would think it would have to be at least 2 premium assets (Young NHL ready player, high pick, blue chip prospect). As a Wings fan right now all we can really do is think about the future to distract ourselves from this season hahah
Let me know what you think

Agreed about the ask for a top 5 pick that was dumb on my end. But Mantha is light years better than Dzingel, I don't even think the two can be compared in the same class

Yes I am a big Detroit fan. I honestly didn't think this trade was that outrageous with Edmonton very much in win now mode. But I guess that's why I'm doing trade proposals on here not in an NHL front office lol. In your opinion what would it take than for the Wings to get Bouchard?

I don't think this is as outrageous as you make it sound. But thinking about it more I'd agree Ottawa isn't giving up what is likely a top 10 pick. Mantha is a 40 goal scoring stud in my opinion and I think Detroit should definitely move him more some high end assets. By the time they are seriously good again he'll be nearing 30

I think you're right in terms of the high end players (Marner, Point etc...) but I can teams targeting guys in that 6-8 million dollar range. Kappaned or Johnsson being prime candidates. Now like I mentioned these player are high quality so even if they get offered teams will likely do everything they can to match. But I still think we'll see a few offer sheets this summer

RFA Market
I've been reading a lot about the upcoming RFA market this summer. There is TONS of high end young talent out there and some teams with not much cap room to sign them and teams with lots of cap room who could be willing to sign somebody. I'm curious what you guys think in terms of if we'll see some RFA get offer sheets or not and what teams might be in play in the RFA market. I personally think Colorado is the number one team to make some noise. They have a ton of cap room and desperately need some help up front. I could see them going after a point or marner. If they get one that secures a huge weakness with their depth up front. Add in the potential of huges or kakko and makar next year this team will be dangerous for along time.

We are seeing with Colorado how no matter how great one of your lines are if you don't have depth you lose. No i'll admit the core of players that will be eating the majority of the Leafs salary are all great players but if they are filling the rest of those spots with borderline NHLers their depth is going to be a huge weakness and get exposed big time against better teams. Not to mention injuries they are basicaly banking on no one getting hurt and we've seen with Matthews already he is prone to injuries. I'm genuinely curious to see how it all plays out

Ok so even if that is true that puts them at 13 million in cap space which is 6 million short. A guy like Nylander (Dubas said he wouldn't trade), Kadri, or Marleau (NTC) has to go right?? I just don't see any other option

So this site says they have just under 8 million in cap space for next year. With that 8 million they have to resign Marner (11) Kapanen (3.5) Johanssen (2.5) and Sparks (2) for a total of 19 million how is that possible? They are screwed or can someone at least explain to me how they plan on doing this?

I think Nyquist gets more somewhere else. the one thing I really love is the myers deal. I love his game and while he isn't an elite dman but he is a top pair guy can play big minutes and doesn't lose his mind in his own zone like our current dmen do. they dont need to spend evevry free dollar now and let the rebuild continue.</div></div>
That is a good point, I over spent a little here for sure we'll need some cap space for the future and having to sing some young guys. Dzingle and Chariot should have been left off that leaves an extra 6 million or so. It might not be Panarin but I think the Wings need a guy of his caliber, it could bre a Duchene or Stone.
