So Marleau and his 27 goals and 46 points....and lots of PP time at age 37 gets 6.25m. But Brown, rookie season mostly. 3rd line play, 20 goals and 36 points gets 950,000.</div></div>
Palhal, are you seriously comparing an rfa contract to a ufa contract? Brown will take whatever they feel like paying him

Playoff Lines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStone67</b></div><div>Sorry but no. These are horrible lines and you need to really learn what the players on the team can do before you make these changes. Martin brings veteran leadership and fear to the team and makes teams fearful to hit the team you've now filled with small rookies. Polak is one of the only aggressive defenseman we have and Marchenko - although still young - also brings a really strong edge to the game they play and make it difficult for the opponent to enter the zone. If you're trying to win a game just off players who can deke and skate fast, maybe look at how last night's game against the Kings went. Yeah we got off to a strong start, but they learned half way through the game how to slow us down, imagine a 7 game series. They need players who will knock guys down and throw their bodies around to grind down the opponent, not young forwards who have no NHL experience when going into the playoffs.</div></div>
Maybe they keep coughing up leads because once they get ahead Babcock starts leaning on his gritty leadership guys who actually suck at playing hockey (Hunlack, Martin, etc).... you can never have too much skill. Did Chicago and Pittsburg grit their way to stanley cups? No, they just simply played talented hockey players

I love grit, heart, experience etc., still doesn't make those players more impactful on winning than any of the guys I have in this lineup. It boosts their value a lot, but still not good enough

After all of their expiring veteran contracts, the leafs have a crazy amount of money to burn with only a couple open roster spots. What else should they do with that money? literally burn it? it's one year deals for both so doesn't affect long term

JVR Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Well not quite. First you've underpaid Brown,Hyman and Zaitsev. JVR: He does have a least a partial NTC. And the perception that the "don't want to hold onto him", may or may not be true. He might leave as A UFA but that doesn't mean you don't want him on your team trying to make playoffs or in the playoffs. All teams have pending UFAs, but that doesn't mean all UFAs are traded.
I'll agree with in the summer of 2018, JVR will sign elsewhere, cause the Leafs will have cheaper alternatives than him, and there is a cap issue with Matthews, Marner, Nylander and maybe more wanting big deals soon.
Regarding the trade. I think it is to much for the rebuilding Isles (I assume they are rebuilding) to give up for 1.5 years of JVR, especially if Pulock is considered an NHLer.</i></div></div>
gave those guys a little more, but not a big deal. I think the leafs would be dumb to not pull the trigger on a deal like this. There's a loophole in this league where players in their prime are forced to get payed nothing, need to exploit it by trading older guys like JVR for similar talent on ELC's.

Future lines
Ohh Brown and Hyman only know how to play hockey at RW?? I guess they'll never play for the leafs then...
Leafs are stacked at RW, sometimes people have to play on their offwing or else they won't be in the lineup. And Komarov has played lots of center and is very comfortable a it.

I also don't think Nylander will be playing on the top line next, I think that Kadri and Bozak will be used to protect the younger players (although it wouldn't be surprising if Bozie was traded). Lineup looks pretty accurate, hopefully the Leafs can add Vesey to their mix.</i></div></div>
If's it's not lindberg then it's Leipsic. I am 100% sure Marner will be on the team next year whether ready or not, he'd be better off playing video games all year than returning to the O. And this isn't really saying Nylander is top line, more like 1A and Kadri is 1B. He'll be playing with Hyman for sure though.

You are wrong. One is the 7th, so doesn't matter can stay in AHL. And the other 2 have to play in the NHL eventually... No body comes into the league as a grizzled vet you know... even Gretzky was a rookie at one point...

Isles center depth goes:
Tavares
Strome
Nelson
Grabovski
Nielsen
Cizikas
Plus Barzal in the system
Nick Shore is not ready to be a #3 center, maybe never. and he is also smallish.
I think Nielsen would be a great fit

That's fine if you think he's ok. But you can't deny that he's great on the powerplay, which is something you have to pay a premium for. But to justify him being a 4m guy all you have to do is look up his comparables that have recently signed and you'll quickly agree.

I'd say just a tad, but established top 4 D on the UFA market are gonna cost big money, and if you don't have any good rfa's in your system from drafting well- you're forced to go that route

yeah, definitely one of the best contracts in the league. This team can do some damage if Chucky can take the next step as a center and if Semin can have a bounce back year

Haha I'm pretty sure Hawks being a dynasty shows they didn't have garbage players...and I'd love to see an NHL team operate by not allowing any new players or anyone under 25 years old on the team. You must go on HF boards a lot.

I'm just having a little fun, but the leafs bottom 6 won't be an issue (was just showing prospect depth), so really you're asking if he'll come with rookies Nylander, Marner, and Kapanen in the top 6.
