Really hoping he gives the Pens a little bit of a discount. But yes after the Nylander deal, he could easy get $9-$10+ from another team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>How is Jarry a big question mark? He's had a good season and a good career overall. And that trade is horrendous. I would say the bigger question mark is making your starting goalie a guy who has looked fantastic as a backup, but woefully underperformed in the only year he was a starter - and then backing him up with a 40 year old goalie who has been terrible this year. I get the story of brining back MAF is great - but if you're trying to win that move just can't be made.
Also, Rust doesn't need to be moved to re-sign Guentzel. He also has an NMC.
Overall I'd say the forward group and goaltending is worse, defense is better. Pretty big overpay on Debrusk, and I dont like the idea of spending 4.5mil on 3rd pair dman. Maybe move some of that money towards another forward. Just my thoughts</div></div>
For me Jarry just isn't consistent. He's either getting a shutout or letting in 3 terrible goals. Now granted the D in front of him isn't spectacular, but goalies can lose games just as much as they can win them. And Ned may not be a good starter but I didn't see any upcoming goalie UFA's that would be any better so maybe you switch him and MAF as MAF seems to do better in a starting role than a backup. But he can't play 60+ games anymore. So maybe it's 45-50 games for MAF.

agreed......and if the Pens make it to the 2nd round or beyond, obviously this current team is on the right track. For me it's all about performance. Sometimes I'm watching the game and certain players are just going through the motions. That can't happen.

things will not be better next year
I thought Nylander did well on the 3rd line but the box 6 still needs a lot of help. No way Zucker resigns as he had a great year and the Pens won't be able to afford him. Maybe that moves Nylander to 2nd line, and that could leave the $20mil to fill the bottom six. And we still haven't gotten into the defence and goaltending which was horrible all year.

Given I think out blue line needs to get more mobile this offseason and his salary I would shop him and see what the market is. Not terrible if he returns and I think getting rid of Granlund's contract is a bigger priority, but Petry, Rutta both shouldn't be off the table for trades.</div></div>

Agreed. It's not he's play, he's been O....K.... but that salary is just to high for a guy that is on the decline in his career and health wise could be an issue. If he was in the $3.5 - $4mil range I would have no arguments with him. But that extra $2.5mil can be better used on the bottom six/goalie situation the Pens have.

final move now time to fire Hex
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>I mean this move is an obvious W for the Pens. Not sure why you would have an issue with it?</div></div>
the log jam on the left side is my concern. Pens easily have 10 on defense and 6 on the left side. And most will have to go through waivers if sent down. So the Pens could lose players for nothing or will be riding at least 8 defense for the rest of the year. Also, didn't see a need to add to the defense. Bottom six is still the biggest concern and nothing Hex has done is helping that. I like Bonino but I'm not sure he's the solution.

Agreed. I feel like Mario and the other owners were more concerned with keeping the "core" together. But with new owners, maybe they will give Hex and Burke the freedom they need to make the BIG changes Pitt needs.

Malkin just had knee surgery. Will most likely miss the start of the season but should be back by December.

Malkin has been in the league for 15 years, makes $9.5mil/season (highest on the team) and has only produced more than 85 points in a season 4 times. 3 out of the last 4 years he's barely made 70+ points. He's a high valued asset that can be moved even with his big contract. Time for the Pens to start thinking about the future instead of hanging on to the past. Next on my list would be Letang. The only "core" player from 5 years ago that will never be moved is 87. Everyone else it's time to part ways. IMO

Agreed. But he is also the easiest one to move so I wouldn't put it passed GMJR to trade him for a forward prospect and/or a pick.

Crosby is still better than McDavid change my mind
Ok so let's look at this from a stat perspective.....
In McDavid's first 5 years....351 games played, 162 goals, 307 assists, 469 total regular season points, 1.33 points/game average
Crosby's first 5 years....371 games played, 183 goals, 323 assists, 506 total regular season points, 1.36 points/game average.
looking at those numbers it's basically the same. The BIG difference is.....Crosby went to the Stanley Cup final twice and won his first cup in his first 5 years. That's what makes Crosby better than McDavid. He took a team that was s**t before he got there, and made them a cup contender consistantly. And you can't say "the Oilers don't have...." because the have some incredibly talented players on their team but nothing that can bring it together. So maybe that the big difference between the 2.......Crosby's leadership and ability to make EVERYONE on the team better not just his linemates.
