Honestly I think a 28 year old d man is younger than a 27 year old forward in NHL terms, if you know what i mean.</div></div>
I'll admit I haven't seen much of him. Also if anything, the Pens need a RD not a LD. After Schultz gets traded this year, which I suspect he will, the Pens only have Letang and Guds (hopefully traded as well). So they really need more RD.

agreed but still worth more than an older, slower Moore. Plus it doesn't save much in salary

not sure if this works
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AFOX10900</b></div><div>I agree with this, except if that OTT trade is proposed we accept it in a heartbeat, Lajoie would be a perfect young 4-5 guy to switch in and out of the top 4 with MP, but OTT probably doesn't accept unless we give a significant pick as well bc Lajoie is very good, an probably a part of their future core, and yeah, the MIN trade is a bit of an overpayment, so I'd say take out Hallander and the first and replace with ZAR and a different pick so it's
JJ for Rask
ZAR Bjugstad and a pick for Zucker
Which isn't terrible from either side imo</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pipinghotgatorade</b></div><div>Personally I feel that it doesn't if only because Petterson isn't re-signed here and there isn't room for him and I feel like he needs to be. Zucker is also the only player coming back from Minnesota that I care about, but I will admit to not watching much of Pateryn. I would rather forego the Ottawa trade, take Pateryn, Hallander and the 1st out of the Wild trade, and add Rust to it. So Zucker and Rask for Bjugstad, Rust, Johnson. Not sure if it works, but Minny seemed fine with the Johnson for Rask swap earlier when the Kessel rumors were around and they're getting some decent pieces back. Then you'd be able to re-sign Petterson. Cap would still be tight though. That's my take at least.</div></div>
Yea I totally spaced on MP. Pens really need to resign him.

Which goalie gets moved
Also, Murray's contract is up next summer. If he's gonna want Price money he may get moved and may have Larmi (Finnish goalie) and DeSmith/Jarry share time for a year. Don't know. But I agree either Jarry or Desmith get traded this summer as part of a package probably with JJ. My guess is Jarry. At 24 it's a better bargaining chip.

still have to sign Murray in 2020. He's gonna ask for at least $3.5mil/year more. But I like these moves. I think it gives the Pens a chance to look at some players without having to commit 6-8 years of bad contracts. make them earn those.
And just as a funny..... I signed Tanev in NHL '19 this off-season for like $1.8mil/year for 4 years. Not saying that EA is accurate on anything, but most agree that GMJR overpaid for him BIG time.

Guet, Sid, Kahun
Bennett, Malkin, Marner
Crouse, Bjugs, Kessel
Simon, McCann, ZAR</div></div>
NM.....I see what happened. You offered 11 but at 7 years which for some reason makes it $15+mil. If you leave it at 5 years, it stays at $11Mil

still has huge potential. just not working out in Edmonton. $1.5 is high I'll admit but I was trying to think of a bridge contract that gives him a chance in PItt but doesn't make Pitt over commit (like 6-7 year contract). I think the change can do him well and he is still speedy. Like I said, just not working out in Edmonton. Plus with the cap not going up as much as everyone thought, this is a potentially high quality player the Pens can get cheap.

trying to keep it simple
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>riles23</b></div><div>Yeah 3rd/4th line is the bottom 6 but we are not saying the same thing. Paying 3 million for a 4th line defensive winger when you already have one at 750K that you chose to scratch instead is poor use of what little cap space is available. As of right now they don't have a whole lot of cap space but I think Rutherford is 1 trade away from dumping a bad contract (Johnson) and maybe losing one of Kessel/Hornqvist but having that available cap to make a splash in FA to get a LW for Gino.</div></div>
I get what you're saying and I don't believe that Kessel or Hornqvist get moved so maybe Jugs.....Simon isn't a defensive minded forward IMO and isn't worth the skates he's on. I like what you're saying about getting Malkin and better LW but I just don't see that being an option with the lack of cap space for the Pens. Unless, like you said, they can move Kessel (huge mistake) or Hornqvist (which I think is the better move but not sure what the return would be...maybe a 2nd or 3rd? but I don't think you get a young prospect) I just don't see the top 6 getting better than what they SHOULD have been last year. Cuz on paper, the top 6 should be solid.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>riles23</b></div><div>Very confused how you think .36 PPG is worth over 3 million. You already have 2 guys that produced at a higher rate (.39 PPG) and are on cheaper contracts (Simon & ZAR). Bottom 6 is not the issue with this team, they need consistent secondary scoring as well as a shutdown 3rd/4th line.</div></div>
Is the 3rd or 4th line not the bottom 6??? If you're saying that the Pens need a shutdown 3rd or 4th line and I'm saying their bottom six needs to improve.....I think we're saying the same thing.
And Lindberg is a shut down guy. If we can get ZAR and Blueger to be shutdown guys....then you have a 4th line shut down line. Simple. Problem solved.
Agreed about the consistent scoring but that really needs to come from the top 6. And the Pens have NO cap space to improve on that. So getting the bottom 6 more stable and defensive is what the Pens need to look at. IMO.

It's double what he made last year I know......but it's hard to tell with FA's on what THEY think there value is. Didn't want to seem like I was undercutting. If the Pens sign him for $2mil - $2.5mil then GREAT! But I believe that is a simple player to go get as his "demand" may not be so high. And he's a decent top 9/ bottom 6 winger which is what the Pens need.

Report Penguins unlikely to trade kessel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>Yeah exactly. He loves Pittsburgh and doesn’t wanna leave. Idk why Rutherford is so eager to trading one of their best wingers while they’re still contending. Unless they get a young stud back, I don’t want it. That Zucker Trade was bad. Back when pens won their 2016 cup, they had 3 legitimate forward weapons. Now with Guzental’s emergence, they have 4. Rutherford has to do a better job at filling in the surrounding depth</div></div>
it's because the Pens have no cap room and no quality prospects since they haven't had a 1st round pick since 2012 I think. So they can't get better with no money and no one to trade. So the only way out of some of these really bad contracts is trading away one of your best assets. Might explain why Malkin's in the rumors. The only way the Pens can dump JJ or Gudbranson is to add a significant piece like Kessel or Malkin.
