Hate for you to find out like this, but the Leafs are indeed interested in Risto.

The value may be fair and balanced (I don't now the prospects enough to say), but the Leafs best players are in their primes and Id rather go somewhere else if the only offer is young guys. Like instead of the deal you made, try and pry Konecny out of Philly or get Hanafin+.
I actually really like the Seattle idea and I would be willing to throw in more on top of Willy (depending on cost) if we can get McCann and Oleksiak back. Something like a first or B+/A- prospect. That just gives us such a good shot at a cup for the next 2-3 years.
(Obviously all of these trade suggestions would have happened in the offseason or some time before the Nylander extension.)

Is Konecny available? I've seen Oilers fans talking about him a lot and, as a Leafs fan, if Konecny gets traded anywhere but Toronto I will weep forever.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wz92</b></div><div>fair enough. What would you add? Shane Wright instead of Nelson or Morrison?</div></div>
Maybe, he'd be a great cost effective addition for years, but hes not a difference maker atm. My main target would be Jared McCann. Hes a ++ finisher and plays C/W for only 5 Mill. Nylander for Oleksiak and Mccann (with other stuff to balance value obviously) would put the Leafs in a great position to improve even after trading Willy.

11.5 was too much to pay Willy. That being said, you can get more than that for him. More current NHL players is a pre-req IMO.

Fix it Brad
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Toronto, of all teams, isn't going to retain on a player sent to Anaheim, of all teams, and the Ducks are highly unlikely to be trading one UFA for another without substantial compensation. Lyubushkin is probably worth a third and a fourth and Carrick is probably worth a fifth. Holmberg is the kind of inexpensive bottom-sixer that you guys should keep around. You can probably get something more for Brodie somewhere else.</div></div>
The idea behind the retention is that Anaheim is a cash poor team, Toronto is the richest team in the league. More about real dollars than cap management. The reason Anaheim would trade a UFA for another is all the other compensation I threw in.

More Space Than it Seems
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilfire</b></div><div>Dubas spoiled you into believing it was that easy to find value at the bottom of the barrel.
Look at how poorly Brad did comparatively.
I give Dubas alot of 💩 for the Tavares signing and mismanaging the other big contracts, but his ability to find good players for next to nothing was undeniable.
There's definitely no worry of not being able to afford Nylander, it'll just be tight and really dependent on a few good ELCs.</div></div>
This would be a fair point if I didn't construct the team already with mostly returning guys and RFAs. There is no need to bargain hunt, and the placeholder guys are 6 mill and 3.5, hardly bottom of the barrel pay cheques.
Also, I don't really like Tre as a GM at all, but in his defense, Lagesson, Gregor and Benoit look like excellent signings. Not to mention his only abject failures so far IMO are Reaves and Klingberg.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>It isn't a question if the Leafs can afford Nylander, it's whether they think he worth the let's the 10 m cap. and seven year term.
Nylander and 1m 4th winger cost 11m in total. Are the Leafs better let's say signing Bertuzzi and Toffellli for 5.5m each a total of 11m? That's the question Trevling (who I don't think is a good GM), will have to decide. The other factor is Nylander has been great this season. But really if you think his normal season is 35 goals and 45 assists.....is he worth more than 10m?</div></div>
Hes a point per game in the playoffs every single year. I'm not concerned with his season point totals, its about his ability to take over shifts and score in big moments when its needed. Also I personally would much rather Will at 11 than Toffoli and Bertuzzi but I understand your point about spreading the wealth.

My point is less about "is signing him a good idea?" and more about the people who say we can't afford to give another guy double digits. Because we demonstrably can (and IMO probably should).
Also 12MM was an exaggeration, Id also like him between 10 and 11.

Making Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>I'd think this is a pretty good lineup...
Reilly - Murphy
McCabe - Brodie
Gio - Lilly

Reilly - Tanev
Brodie - Murphy
McCabe - Lilly
It's going to cost the two 1sts at least (probably need to add Topi N as well) to acquire both Murphy and Tanev with retention plus move out Kling. I keep proposing as a cap saving move Kling + Sammy + 1st for Murphy + Mrazek 1/2 retained. That gets the leafs cap space plus an upgrade on D and goalie (at least as of now) and allows them to go after Tanev retained as well.
Needless to say, better roster then today.</div></div>
I don't think the Leafs defense is actually bad, more like it has very weak links (Klingberg mainly). So moving Klingberg in a small and painless deal is best case scenario for the Leafs IMO, to either free up cap space for a deal or a spot for Lagesson.
Also Sammy will probably be fine and hes only on a one year deal, no need to move him.

Yeah, I didn't want to take cap back, nor did I want to trade both firsts. You are probably right on value if Chicago recognizes they can squeeze the Leafs.

I'm mostly joking, he has a terrible reputation amongst the fans in Toronto. He's certainly not a crease clearer. Id say he usually has a good first pass and is a decent skater, hes a great PKer, loves eating blocked shots, and hes liable for 1 monumental breakdown every 3-4 games or so. My guess is he gets 2-2.5 Mil somewhere.
