The only way to make a buyout shorter is to wait for fewer years to be left on it.

There is no need to buy out. Bury or trade for little to nothing.
Just wait. Most people are illogical have no patience. Injuries will occur and LD is one of the thinnest positions in hockey. It's not like it's winger.
There will be places to move him. Especially at such a low cap hit.
The only issue people really have with his contract is length But that's not even a real issue considering you can drop him on seattle in 2 years.
So a team might have to deal with him for 1-1 1/2 years tops

REALISTIC 2019 Pittsburgh Penguins Off-season
I thought the player GMJR really coveted from the Florida deal was McCann. Younger. More skill. I thought Bjugstad was solid but if you are going to put him on Sid or Geno's wing I'd much rather have Rust up there, saving half a mill of valuable cap on that spot, and ZAR or a cheap vet on the bottom line, saving at least two mill in cap.
I could be persuaded otherwise but Bjugstad seemed to fizzle pretty quickly.. His lines, like all of our lines, did nothing against the Isles. He had talent with him too. Remove Simon, he skated with Phil, Horn, McCann, Rust and I think one other player that I can't remember. Those are pretty good guys to work with as a third liner.
In my mind, the three most tradeable guys on this team are
1) Kessel
2) Maatta
3) Bjugstad
When I say most tradeable I mean that they have value and the Cap hits will be accepted without dumping.
If the Pens want a real shakeup I believe these three all need to be traded while you try to get someone to bite on Jonhson's second half of last year or Gudbranson's last quarter. (I don't even mind them, but like Bjugstad, they aren't worth the cap hit they hold).

I’m not opposed to adding ferland, it just has to be for the right price. I think teams may overpay for him

If they trade brass it's not for a short term fix.
They don't want to be right back where they were 2 years ago.
If Brass goes and they are moving other pieces out it's probably for a longer term solution.

Duchene if Ottawa want to trade
I like the Columbus, but idk if Columbus gives up a third round pick maybe more of a 5th-6th round pick and I don't see Pittsburgh being a major player for Duchene if he is available. Even though Pittsburgh has the cap to trade for him cuz of Schultz's injury and that cap relief, I can't see Pittsburgh paying that big of a price for a player they won't resign

BOS MTL and OTT interested in Coyle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claesson4Norris</b></div><div>Can't see Ottawa being interested in Coyle, and definitely not for White, Batherson or Stone. The sens have no reason to want to add a Centre right now. We currently have Duchene-White-Tierney-Pageau-Smith in the NHL and Brown, Chlapik and Norris who all could be in the NHL in the next season or two.
Even if we lose Duchene, I think it would be a bad move. We don't need centers, we need right D.</div></div>
Well, they might be. Our beat writer is extremely reliable when it comes to information. Here's his quote from his article today:
"It is believed that Eastern Conference teams Ottawa, Montreal and Boston have at least shown interest and are watching Coyle closely. The Canadiens have shown interest in prior years, too."
I didn't mean any of those 3 for Coyle straight up, that would be terrible for the Sens. I was more thinking something like Coyle + Spurgeon for White/Batherson + Ceci as a base, but more might be needed to balance the trade out. Coyle also primarily plays RW, not C, although he can fill in at center if needed.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coffey77</b></div><div>How about Derrick Brassard from the Pens as a 2nd line Center and Bryan Rust or Kessel as a right shot winger?</div></div>
Not a huge fan of Brassard. I like Rust, although he's not great at scoring. I'm a big fan of Sprong but unfortunately that ship has sailed. Brassard + Sprong for Coyle + a little extra could have been an interesting trade.

Dream Dealine(read description before commenting)
As a fan of neither team, I'd like to offer the following:
I love the Pens with Kane. That's a good fit.
But the problem is that there are WAY too many pending UFA 1-way 20-30 goal wingers that will be available this year. The price you are paying for Kane will never happen. EDIT: KANE WILL BE MUCH CHEAPER.
Because any GM can look at a 1st + prospect + more request for Kane then just go to McPhee for any of 3 options (Perron, *Neal, Marchessault), Toronto for *JVR, or NYR for Rick Nash. Note that the two players with the * are categorically better than Evander Kane and will be the ones who get the higher offers. And there are only so many buyers who will drop 1sts this year - so they can't all be worth that plus. Additionally a number of 2 year UFAs like Detroit's Nyquist, Habs Pacioretty, SJS Pavelski on terrible teams may be made available. Yes Habs fans, your team is terrible.
Due to the expansion draft, this is like the worst year ever to try and sell a young 1-way winger who isn't....like an All Star.
Buffalo isn't getting a 1st + much for Kane, they'll be lucky to score the late first and B prospect due to supply and demand, so you may get a bargain if you are a Penguins fan.
I would predict Kane moves for a no more than a late 1st and a B prospect, or more if there is a salary dump coming back.

Adam Lowry ... what would it take?
I like Lowry and his versality. He's big, plays 1st PK, hits, blocks, skreens on the PP2, can be a left wing. But I'm not sure if he is fast for us enough, can win enough face-offs. I'd rather have him on a wing with Malkin than being a 3C honestly. But we virtually have ZAR here who I hope would be a better player. But I'd take Lowry now if price is right but I doubt WPG value him that way.
I also like Sceviour. He loos like a 10-years younger Cullen, maybe less attacking but more tough. A Right shot, is good at face-offs, in PKing, got some speed, durable. Would have been an ideal 4C for us instead of Cullen, but also could show something on the 3rd. I don't think they will acquire 4C in a trade right now. We have Rowney, Bluegers and I believe McKegg who could be even top of two through the season, he's got more experience to go with. But I would be very very glad if we had Sceviour in March as pending UFA and signed him in July.
Speaking about FLA there've been talks about Bjugstad but what about Trocheck? I know the price is high but maybe not that high? I believe FLA is in rebuild mode and lacks depth. Maybe a roster player (Maatta, Sheary?), another bottom 6 as well, a prospect and/or (high) pick(s)? He's young, can play a scoring wing, PKs as well, has good contract on him, can be TOP6 and possibly could replace Sid and Geno long-term??
Yes II think we'll trade for Eakin if we solve another task besides filling a C position. I hope they'd prefer a more obvious choice in a better player and rather prefer temporary player than just Eakin. I like an idea of taking a good D in a trade, maybe smth else. BTW how about Neal-Hornqvist swap? We could get a winger for Geno who he really liked playing with, who plays both left and right, making possible Kessel play with new 3C and becoming more deep. And VGK get a more expendable player at the deadline bearing in mind Hornqvist's SCF experience and character.
What do you think about Anisimov? A CHI fan posted a team here where he traded him for Cole straight up and than aquired Vermette for a young D plus. I really don't know but they could be interested to trade Anisimov pending cap issues?
