<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>It was certainly a competitive window. It was directly after winning the cup. I don’t know how much more competitive of a window you’re looking for. That’s also discounting that going into the bubble the Blues were one of the best teams in the league and then half the team got COVID, and let’s not act like the bubble circumstances were great for the nature of being competitive. The gear of the front office at that time was to compete until probably 2025. However the production in general fell off alot with regression from some players and some players being asked to play bigger roles (Parayko taking over for Pietrangelo) but the direction was buying, not planning for the future. We had like 9 20 goal scorers in 21-22.

I don’t think you’re comprehending what a competitive window is for most teams. The ebs and flows for most franchises aren’t near as irrational as most of the O6 teams because frankly it’s shaky if that’s a valid option for the team to still be profitable. The Blues were still geared towards competing until early on in the 22-23 season.

I’m not sure I’m trying to overvalue Krug here. We lack puck moving on the backend outside of Krug. Perunovich hasn’t had one healthy professional season. Faulk and Paraykos best offensive assets are shooting the puck, Leddy doesn’t have much offensive zone ability, and we don’t have a wave of youth coming in that direction outside of guys who can suitably play bottom pair minutes and will probably bounce back and forth between the NHL/AHL.

What I am trying to do though is not extend our window of being on the fringe beyond the 3 years when Krug/Faulks contracts expire and we have flexibility.

I wouldn’t disagree that there probably aren’t many if any takers on Krugs contract at 6.5m especially with where his salary is at until next year. But I also don’t think it’s a good idea to dump the only puck mover on our defense and acquire a bigger contract with more term in return given where we are. Waiting and letting it expire is a better idea than that.</div></div>

100% agree that Krug is ur only good puck moving D but any team buying doesnt care. u have to take Blues problems out if ur going to trade him. dont think for anyother bad contract is smart at all but if u ate half his cap u could probably get a decent prospect or 2nd round pick back

the covid year 100% messed everyone up but after that year it was pretty ovb u guys were done. u didnt have the elite talent to keep going and while u beat the wild u won 2 total games against the avs in 2 years and fell very short the last 2 years.
