Keep JT and Go For The Playoffs
I think Marino might have more value in a trade but I like this idea from the Pen’s perspective — perhaps even more than a JT Miller trade
Is Garland rumored to be on the trade block?

What I hope the roster looks like on opening night
Pitlick had a 23% shooting percentage last season — not sustainable. we’re better off signing Milano/Strome like you said
also no way Dumo fetches a 2nd round pick

Rutta to pens - Marino out question mark
the Rutta deal is a head scratcher (not that he's terrible, probably average to below average). i think it most likely points to Marino being traded? but i suppose they could do this too?
idk i'm hoping they move one of Pettersson/Dumo still, but i don't love the idea of Rutta as third pairing defenseman because Ruhwedal/Friedman could do that for $2M less

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>I never said he was much better, I just said better. It was the other guy who said Erod wasn't even close to Milano. Which is just ridiculous. Erod's possession and advanced numbers were just as good when he moved down the lineup - it's just playing with worse players leads to less points. Yeah money plays a factor - but in this scenario we are assuming it's the same amount</div></div>
I got what you were saying, they’re definitely closer than many think. EROD’s analytics did go downhill in the back half of last season, though. It wasn’t just that his production went down, he just played poorly for some reason. Literally one of the most perplexing slumps I’ve ever seen.

It wasn't lucky, he just played in the top 6</div></div>
The Pens will probably prefer to bring in EROD over Milano but I’m not so sure EROD is that much better than Milano. Last season was strange for EROD, he played well in the top-6 regardless of his teammates, and then fell off. I’ve seen so many “explanations” for the drop off but it’s just pure guesswork. If the Pens can sign him for a reasonable amount, I say go for it. If not, Milano is a solid third liner.

yeah this actually seems like a good trade (depending on whether Pens can get R. Strome in FA). he'd be a solid third liner for only $2.75M

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CHUG</b></div><div>Had Milano in there, but wasn't sure if he would fit alongside Zucker and Carter. Don't mind the idea of a new 3C, but Strome is probably out of the price range. And as for the Miller deal, the pens would have Zucker and Dumo coming off the books to make room for his extension and to resign Jarry as your two main priorities in the next offseason.</div></div>
Strome will probably get around $4M so they can feasibly fit him in (of course another team may overpay).
also i thought Zucker had 2 years left lol but i'm still hesitant to spend >$8M on a 29 year old coming off of his best season -- i'd rather have flexibility going into next offseason

honestly i'd prefer signing a 3C like Strome and moving Carter to that RW spot. if not, Sonny Milano would be a good pickup instead of EROD, but i like either.
also i may be in the minority here, but the JT Miller trade is not worth it. i don't think the Pens can afford his extension next season (~$8M) and it doesn't make sense to spend that much capital on a 1-year rental

I actually like him! he’s got all the physical tools in place, just needs to learn how to put it together. I believe he can be a very good top-6 winger
the problem is that the Pens are in win-now mode and they just can’t wait on Kapanen any longer. bring in solid third-liners that can contribute consistently

I forget who reported it but there are apparently offers on the table for the defensemen. whether Pettersson has any interest remains to be seen but I imagine teams will wait to trade until they can feel out the free agents

My ideal scenarios go:
1. Ryan Strome + Sonny Milano + trade Kapanen
2. Mason Marchment + Sonny Milano + trade Kapanen
3. Copp + trade Kapanen + call up Nylander
notice the common denominator hahahaha

*if* the Pens do trade Marino as part of a Miller deal, I think they still need to move Pettersson or Dumo to fit POJ in the lineup. you’re setting him up for failure at RD
100% agree with Marchment being a top target, especially given what his projected contract is. I’d also like to see Sonny Milano if he ends up costing too much

ah mixing up my free agents lol but my point is that Miller will cost too much for what we'll get out of him, especially since he's due for an extension around $8M next year. i'd rather keep Marino and the picks.
