What if Habs did an actual major rebuild
we are rebuilding .. we are in the middle of it and some of those guys are part of the future... i see no reason to trade harris or Kovecevic and i wouldnt trade anderson either as you need vets around your kids and the rebuild is not finished as they will continue this year and be better next year but not necessarily a playoff team and in three seasons from now we should contend for playoffs and the cup. That is the plan ... we are not starting over now because you dont know the plan lol...

Fighting for the last wild card spot
your lineup is all messed up .. Wideman didnt start last year and wont this year.. where is harris who was stellar last year. RHP is in the lineup as well not mailloux... Bezile only got into the lineup when the injuries were terrible but harvey was one who produced.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>It's interesting, because having a 100+pts and 80+pts center last season did not help Vancouver win. They were unbalanced between forward and defense.
They will be a little better with Hronek this season, but can he be a top pair player? I think the Canucks need to be a bit of a cautionary tale for the Habs.
Vancouver has better goaltending. Better centers. Better scoring wingers. They play in an easier division.
With all that going for them, they still can't make the post -season.
Fans on this site constantly undervalue defense and depth. I think Hughes has a plan and players with the right culture is a big part of it. So I only do this deal if HuGo believes Petey will fit in with the group and not project a mercenary attitude.</div></div>
lack of leadership and a losing culture in the room..... goalie got hurt didnt he?

This is a huge risk this trade... and vancouver would only do this if they were re-building or couldnt sign Petterson.. and he is not ufa so van holds the cards. Montreal would insist that those picks are top 10 protected else I would not do this trade.... only good thing about the trade is we speed up the rebuild a little but you can't keep rebuilding with no first round picks. So montreal would have to be ready to contend and they might with Petterson in place and suzuki as the 2C. Plus they have a great set of defenseman and then they just need a good goalie

trust me I know my team been a fan for 50 years and all the glory years... win hockey pools every year..... montreal is being built correctly and we just have to let these great kids play and not sign veterans to block them.. and then when the Armia and Dvorak and Allen are all gone we will contend again with this core
Reinbacher and Hutson and Guhle and Barron and harris and Xhekaj and matheson for a couple of years and our forwards we need some of Farrell, Roy, Heinemann, Kidney, slafovsky, RHP, Ylonen, Beck, Mesar, newhook, to become good players. i like roy the best. He was awesome with Bedard.
The defense is going to be great. We need a game breaker up front .. maybe in the draft or maybe you sign a free agent to be that player. A player like Nylander or someone like that

def pairings are way out of whack. And where is Xhekaj in this.... likely Barron starts in laval as he is waiver exempt and he has not beat out the other guys yet... but he might... training camp will decide that.. but Xhekaj is not going anywhere we need him to protect our young guys... and we dont have anyone else.

I like the lines and if montreal stays healthy especially players like monahan and caufield... montreal is going to be a tougher place to get points next year.. wins will not be easy for other teams.. I think Guhle and Matheson will be beasts on defense and I really like Harris too and RHP has lots of upside. Anderson really did improve last year and I think Armia cAn do better.. at least a little better. I think montreal could finish 10 to 12 worst next year if healthy and progress is made in development.. but if they gets lots of injuries again then they will fall within the top 10 worst...which is ok too.

this trade makes no sense from a montreal perspective either. We dont want an old guy like Perron in our rebuild and Maatta isnt better than our young defense we have right now. I think harris will be a better defenseman than maatta. pl;us we aren't dumping Petry.... he has alot of value as he still produces points and has size and speed. He hit and he blocks. He is going to a contending at the deadline for a first rounder wait and see

I know eh.. and petry is a much better player and he is still producing points and hits and block shots and good analytic numbers as well.... so at 2.3 million hughes will get a first round in return....This is the man who traded the untradeable hoffman and retained no money... you got to believe...lol

his points and his analytics stats are all good he plays Rd and in the top four and he is going to cost only 2.3 million... A first round pick will be easy rest assured..... Just likely hughes will wait till the deadline and then teams can save even more money.

Slafkovsky wasn’t ready last year & management kept him up all year. Can’t see them sending him down now</div></div>
I believe hughes can do anything after he traded Hoffman with no retention so I think he trades Armia that is the obvious move

my line would be
Caufield suzuki and Dach
Slafkovsky Monahan Gallagher
RHP Newhook Anderson
pezzetta and Evans Ylonen
Armia this way i would see what newhook could do as a center but when Dvorak comes back i would put newhook in the top 6 on the wing... also Dach was awesome on the top line and as long as we have Monahan Dach can stay on the top line

Guhle-Petry (if he stays)
Xhekaj-Harris
Kovacevic
Wideman (maybe waive Wideman?)
Montembeault
Allen
DeSmith (maybe waive instead of Wideman?)
So I would expect RHP & Barron to be sent in the NHL if everyone’s healthy</div></div>
yes but remember dvorak will miss a few weeks and then someone else will get hurt and so RHP will not go to laval.....plus slaf is going to need to show in camp that he is ready else he might start in laval which i think is the best idea for his confidnece to play in all situations and get on a roll when he is called up. I will say this RHP has will and he will be on the team....if not injuries then another trade will happen. RHP has nothing to learn in laval.. he is ready

I hate Hoffman & Armia, but they are never healthy scratch
They don’t have a spot to earn, they have a spot to lose
But still, there’s no way they are buried in the AHL. I just can’t see it.
Hoffman half retained + us sending a 4th for future compensation …. That makes ZERO sense, you don’t retain half a contract and sending a pick to make a roster spot for someone. Those someone are waivers exempt, they can start in Laval & get recall when an injury occur. I don’t think this is going to be the line up for opening night, every year there is injuries during training camp + preseason games</div></div>
and now he is traded as i knew he was going to be gone.. such doubters but hughes has managed every task set for him.. with hoff and pitlick gone they now can play ylonen and Harvey pinard.. and petry will get them a high draft pick if we retain 50% at the deadline.

Slafkovsky Barron RHP in the minors
truth is hoffman will get traded and armia has to win a job in camp else he goes to laval. And that is fair.. So if harvey or farrell outshine armia then he goes down... but hoffman produce at a 42 pt pace last year and at 50% retention someone will bite during camp or montreal will add a fourth rounder and then someone will bite. At 2.25 mil a 42 pt player is a bargain and the pick is just gravy... I can see him in chic or SJ or Ana or Ari.
Hoffman gone and armia in minors leaves room for Harvey and ylonen in the lineup the way it should be.

Interesting team tbh
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>Wait so you think waiting to fire MB til after he re-signed Petry, Gally and brought in Dvorak was what hurt us over injuries alone?
Given that 2/3 listed are part of that Injury core your referenced i dont see how not re-signing them if MB is fired doesnt solve your problem.
Hughes wouldnt have re-signed those guys to an overpaid contract with term given how beat up they were after the SCF run.
So by Removing MB like i said , Problem solved.
Injuries also would have been remedied without MB a lot quicker too.
Hughes after his first season in charge fired the Medical Staff and updated it when he realized the trend.
Bringing him in earlier makes that happen earlier.
Injuries were after all in large part avoidable and stupid.
Letting Cole go out after seperating his shoulder or Monahan take off his cast to play games then help put it back on.
There's the special glove they made for Petry so he could play after he busted his hand and letting Weber come off LTIR to join our playoff run.
Letting Carey Price go back out injured to play his final games in search of a win. (i think it was 3rd last vs OTT 2nd period he hurt his knee, stayed in anyways and for 2 more final NHL games)
The list goes on and the doctors are to blame especially that old F*** Dr Mulder they didnt fire cause he'd likely have a heart attack and die from the shock cause he's like 80(been with the habs more then half his life but i digress)
I was a MB guy too until he fumbled KK after giving away Sergachev.
When he he traded Dvorak to replace KK i was done</div></div>
Mb was good at some things and bad at others.. He struggled with development and signing players was not a strength either and drafting wasnt as bad as people think.. only 1.3 players drafted from 20 -32 become top 6 forwards or top 4 def or starting goalies... and during his years he picked mostly there.... and when we did ppick high it ended up being a ****ty draft like the glachenyuk one and then he made that mistake with KK. However they did draft Roy and Farrell and sergechev and caufield and Harvey and harris and many others...kidney etc
I hated what he did with markov but when they went to the final you could see what he was trying to do with the big def and carey and it worked... but then the career ending injuries ended that dream..I like hughes and Gorton better but if you look at some of the Gms before Berg you will see he was much better the those guys like Houle etc

But new injuries isnt why we've been at the bottom persay From our SCF roster we had what like 5 guys left after just 2 years removed?
Bad GM moves hurt us with MB and had he been english Molson as President woulda fired him before he signed Gally and Petry to those deal.
We woulda with kept them at a more reasonable term or lost them creating space for our youth.
Gross incompetence and ignoring it instead of firing him as soon as you realized you werent re-hiring him.
All because they had to have the best Bilingual option not just the Best Option.</div></div>
