What does it take to move up to 7 of Michkov
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hitagi_Senpai</b></div><div>buddy here thinking he's got the 1st overall LOL
Face facts, 7th -> 11th isn't as far off as you think. Especially if Michkov is not on the board at that time.
You're having a laugh if you think the ask is 11th + 24 first + more assets for the 7th. You have the 7th. Not 1, not 2, or 3. I can see 11 + 24 first + assets for 3. MAYBE 4 if Carlsson slides.</div></div>
You got it!
In 2005 SJ traded pick 12 (1st), 49 (2nd) & 207 (7th) to ATL for pick 8 (1st). I think it’s fair to assume that the trade proposed above is fair

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>I can’t express enough how much I don’t care about “value charts”. The value charts don’t tell you that Danny can ask for whatever he wants because he has no obligation currently to do anything except pick 7th and anything other than that means a team has to overpay to do it. People don’t move out of the top 10 especially in a super talented draft.</div></div>
In a deep draft you have the flexibility to trade down and acquire more assets because it’s a deep draft lol you can still get a very good prospect at 11, this is the time to do such a move if there ever was a time.
I’m of the mindset that the Canucks should be trading down from 11 a few spots to acquire more picks, rather than trade up.
In this instance, I believe that the offer laid out above is fair

Based on common draft pick value charts, the Canucks 11th pick and a late second would be considered “equal value”. The proposal of Hoglander and a 3rd would be an overpayment, but given the demand to get inside the top ten I could see this working.

Why Eat Your Vegetables When You Can Eat Tentacles
I like this trade proposition from a Vancouver perspective, I feel like the trade is slightly lopsided though. I'd assume it would have to be VAN 1st & TOR 3rd for NYI 1st and VAN 2nd. Based on an article from Dom Luszczyszyn https://theathletic.com/1798463/2020/06/12/by-the-numbers-revisiting-the-true-value-of-a-draft-pick/ the value for each pick doesn't line up perfectly, so the above revision works a little better.

Obviously nobody is expecting him to consistenly score at a 60 goal pace, however teams will not be paying the price for a 50 point center, they will be paying the price for Horvat's current play. Horvat is the best rental the market has seen in a very long time</div></div>
I couldn't agree more with you Juiceman. That Andrew Copp trade was insane for a rental. LAK made a trade for Kevin Fiala (without a contract in place) that brought in 19th overall pick (Liam Ohgren) and top right shot prospect Brock Faber... Those are the kind of deals VAN <strong><em>should</em></strong> be looking to make. I don't think COL has the pieces/won't be willing to give up what VAN will want.
FYI Kevin Fiala boasts a .69 ppg, while Bo Horvat's career ppg is sitting at .67

Mid tier players/prospects don't net you a top pair defensemen on a steal of a deal, and if you don't think he's a star defensemen then don't trade for him.</div></div>
I actually like this trade for Arizona. Maybe you try to pry the 1st in this years draft as opposed to next years first, but Ostlund was a 1st rounder from last years draft, and Victor Olofsson is a proven top 6 forward who can score.
What kind of quality are you looking for in a Chychrun trade? No contender will want to lose anything off of their roster, so you most likely have to deal with future assets as a return. You've tried to trade him for over a year now and you're not getting the return you think he's worth.. I like this offer

As I mentioned within the trades additional details "he could be traded to a number of teams". He's viewed as a serviceable place holder down the lineup while you try and plug holes, not the solution to your problems.

If you're acquiring Brock Boeser, Ty Smith will have to be attached to that deal. There are better fits elsewhere for Vancouver to acquire young defenceman out there, given that we already have a smaller Quinn Hughes on the left side I don't see them looking to trade a premium asset for another small left shot defenceman to play 3rd pair minutes.
I don't have any trade proposals to counter with because honestly I don't see anything that Vancouver would need with New Jersey's roster. At least nothing that you would be willing to move...

Offseason Plans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yztnuK</b></div><div>Demko and Hoglander were 2nd rounders for starters and those 2 are the ones I can think off the top of my head.
For Vancouver to win they need 3 lines that score and are a threat. Days of having 2 scoring lines, shutdown line and grinding line are long gone.
EP Boeser have chemistry
Miller Hoglander have chemistry
Horvat Pearson have chemistry
Fill out their wings.
Vancouver has no choice in the matter of ferland. If the team doctor or any doctor clears him, his cap hit is back on the books.
Throwing away 1st and 2nds since Benning has taken over is 1 part of 2 parts why this team is not competitive right now and won’t be for a few years.
Reinhart will get over $6m and if Vancover pays that, then Are back to cap hell. Boeser next year, Horvat next, then Miller hoglander, Hughes, EP and Podkolzin all in consecutive years.</div></div>
That's my point exactly, we have hit on two second rounders, that's great, we were due lol from 2002-2014 we've had 8 second round picks, and only two of them played more then 3 games (M. Raymond 2005 & 2014 T. Demko) That's exactly 25% of success drafting in the second, and that's the NHL average. sometimes you hit, but most of the time you don't...
The way I laid out the lines was effectively 3 lines deep
Miller Petey Boeser
Pearson Horvat Reinhart
Hogz Haula Podkolzin
That to me seems like a good top three lines that could develop well over the next year and take that next step.
Vancouver has no choice? Do you remember what happened to Manny Malhotra? Vancouver shut him down because of his eye injury, they had a say in his future as a Canucks, yet he went on to play a few more seasons. Vancouver can ensure that Ferland doesn't play another game for the Vancouver Canucks if they want to.
I'm not here to back up what Benning has done in the past, I don't agree with everything he has done as a GM, hence why I noted this in the description "Then again, if Benning is running the ship this offseason, I don't see any of this happening..."
The good teams always have cap issues, The Canucks can navigate through it as the years go on, take it one year at a time and deal with it when you need to.
Next year Loui and Luongo's recapture come off the books, that's more than enough to resign Boeser. Then when Bo and Miller are up you evaluate the team and make adjustments as you go. Look at Tampa, every year we all say the same thing, how are they going to afford everyone? They make changes and adapt. They traded Miller to clear cap space and acquired a 1st rounder in return, then traded it for a low cost effective forward that helped win them the Stanley Cup.
Sometimes you need to swing for the fences to take the next step, and in this instance I think swinging to get another top scoring winger/center is worth taking a longer look at.
