Would be buying him out - he can sign with anyone after. Trade is taking on 6 million in salary for a 4th round pick & shipping out Hoffman. In all honesty pick should be higher.

Poulin is a 1st round pick from last year. No chance Habs get a 1st on top of him.

Bad Contracts from EDM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Oggsford_Blues</b></div><div>Interesting trade but I think you are rating Jesse <strong>really</strong> highly. Giving up four useful pieces in return for two bad contracts and one lottery ticket seems a little imbalanced IMO. Yes, JP has elite talent but has yet to show it on NA ice, and I expect Kenny H recognizes they need to move on. EDM doesn't have a whole lot of leverage.</div></div>
What do you think would be a good variation to the trade? Drop Manning and Reilly from the equation and maybe downgrade the pick? Sekera is on a bad contract, but he could still be a useful bottom pairing d-man who can move the puck up the ice and fill in as a stop gap until Romanov is ready. If he doesn't pan out, buy him out next year. Also takes Shaw's contract off the books for when KK, Gallagher and Poehling need to be resigned in 2 years time (not to mention the expansion draft).

Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>reverse the CGY and buyout Callahan then this looks awesome .
Domi-Danault-Gallagher. (this line will be our best as long as Domi-Gallagher Click it doesnt matter who's at center)
Lehkonen-Plekanec-Drouin. (have plekanec take draws ,their youth and speed should help plekanec's from being handicaped due to his lack of speed)
Hudon-Peca-Armia. (Speed,Skill,and Backchecking)
Byron-Terry-Evans. (both Terry and Evans were Hobey Baker Nominee's and Centers at the Highest levels of the NCAA so with Byron i think they'd be a hard line to play against)
Deslauriers</div></div>
Really think that Scherbak needs a fair shake at a top 6 gig. Guy can produce and we don't have many players like him in the system on RW.

Offseason Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rladda</b></div><div>Why would you sign Gardiner to a 6 million dollar extension for 6 years?</div></div>
Because he's the perfect fit to play beside Weber and put up above 50 points last year. It takes money to sign a defenseman like that.

Realistic Draft/Offseason Plan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Price_is_the_goat</b></div><div>love the plan. seems very realistic. don't know why ur trading shaw though?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StuTheSniper</b></div><div>Agree and agree. Nice to see a post that actually makes sense. The Shaw trade is the only one I'm not 100% on board with.</div></div>
Shaw is a good player, but I do not think he will be worth nearly 4 million a year in the final 2-3 years of his contract. He's a great playoff guy for a team thats competing, but unfortunately i don't think the habs will be competing in the next 2 years. Thats why you take a bad contract back in MacDonald, and acquire a great defensive prospect in Myers. Also, the Habs have prospects that can replace Shaw and his role in the next couple years (Will Bitten comes to mind). As a whole, I see this trade as accepting 2 years of pain in order to gain cap space and prospect capital that could really help in the long run. The only thing i could maybe think of changing is adding more to the deal from the Philly side of things.

Realistic Draft/Offseason Plan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Starsfan98</b></div><div>As a plan, this looks really solid. Not sure though if Callahan would waive his NMC for rebuilding team like Habs.
Oh, and I don't think Kings will trade Vilardi - they were so lucky with getting him in the latest draft, he's gonna be a big part of their team as a 2C in 3-4 years. I'd probably go look from team like FLA or ARZ who has a number of C-prospects (in FLA there's Borgström or Heponiemi and in ARZ there's Strome, Dvorak, Merkley etc.) or something like that.</div></div>
My thought process was out of those teams, LA is the most ready to compete for a cup. With Kopitar and Carter signed for the foreseeable future down the middle, I thought they'd be willing to part with him to acquire an elite goal scorer who could really thrive playing with those two centres and help out a team thats starved for goals and seemingly all in while they have Doughty under contract for only 7 million a year.

Marc Bergevin Sleeps with a Nightlight On
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NYR8993</b></div><div>Those trades are all in montreals favor. The other teams would never accept them</div></div>
Pacioretty is a top 5 left winger in the league. His value probably exceeds that of Fowler's, and given the depth of Anaheim on the back end i can see them wanting to add his firepower at the expense of a very good, mobile puck moving defense man. Anaheim is also gonna need cap flexibility moving forward, and with Fowler's new contract kicking in + whatever Ritchie will ask for after next year they may find themselves in a predicament where they will be unable to sign one of either Manson or Montour. Schlemko and Patches effectively provide an upgrade to their roster for the next 2 years (their cup window) and more flexibility moving forward. De La Rose and the 4th are sweetners to offset the added value of Ritchie.
Detroit needs to shed salary, and trading a player like Nyquist offers up more play time for players like Larkin and Athanasiou to grab a spot in the top 6 without "throwing in the towel" for their move to a new arena. Scoring a prospect like McCarron who could immediately play on their roster is a good return for a move to shed salary, Fucale could receive more starts in the Red Wings system as he's been buried in the Habs goalie depth.
Davidson for that cheap could find his way into Chicago's top 6, which would be a smart grab for Chicago.
Shaw was acquired for two 2nd round picks last year. He offers NJD a feisty NHL capable 3rd line player to infuse in along with the kids they'll be putting on their roster. Can also play center which Jersey will need after the news of Zajac's surgery where his recovery will last into the midpoint of the season.
