Whats up with the barkov trades with 1 cbo
I think Florida does that if you change a 2nd to another 1st. They'll see the $$$ and Barkov walking away for nothing in 2 yrs. Good effort.

BARKOV
Not that far off on the Barkov deal. But Strom would need to be replaced with someone young and cost controlled. No way Florida takes him for the $ he'll cost after Panarin infkated his numbers. For any normal team, close.

Goligoski is too old and too expensive for what he brings to be worthwhile for Buffalo. I'd rather deal McCabe at the deadline for whatever you could get and save the cap space we'd waste on Goligoski for better options. If Arizona would add to that deal to get Buffalo to take him then maybe we have a discussion.
Sign me up for the Henrique deal and I could see Pitt getting minimal return on Murray. Other teams know the position they're in. But why would they want a goalie back?

Buffalo accepts. No question. Would probably do it just for a 4th or 5th. Good low risk gamble for MTL. Hutton's way better than he's looked in Buffalo.

The real question is: would he waive to come to Buffalo if Buffalo threw a mid-round draft pick at Tampa? How much, if at all, would he want out? I suspect he'd rather take the buyout and go sign at a destination of his choosing (not Buffalo).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchMarnerElite </b></div><div>Miller’s fallen out of favour with the Buffalo coaching staff but when he’s played, he’s shown promising signs. Looking at his stats, he is actually way better defensively than Tyson Barrie. Perhaps Dubas should’ve given up less to acquire him instead, or trade Kadri to get Manson.</div></div>
When he's been in Miller has been solid. He was Buffalo's best RHD at the end of the season when they started playing him. Perfect pairing with Dahlin to help settle him down. More value keeping him right now. Better to get rid of Risto for anything.

Just for argument's sake, you can always flip the pick in another deal so the "we don't need picks" argument is lazy.
Still, if I'm the Leafs I'm not taking this deal. I'd be looking for cheap D help that has already shown something in the league.

They're UFAs. We can't take it for granted that they would want to come back. If I were them, I'd be exploring every option to get out of Buffalo.
But you're likely right on the Mittelstadt point. I might be a bit higher on Tierney than you. I see him as a stopgap 2C for a bit until Cozens or Mittelstadt is ready to take over but ultimately a decent 3C on a good team.

This would be a great trade for Buffalo, can't see the Sens making it though.</div></div>
Actual $4.5M savings if you have any business savvy at all and can do basic math.

Not viewing Ryan and Okposo as a net zero. Buffalo benefits a bit more getting out from under that third year and pentially freeing up more cap space with a buyout in the last year of Ryan's contract. I see that as added value for Buffalo.
But yeah, Botterill probably isn't trading Mittelstadt but hopwfully Botts isn't making the calls (though now with the current uncertainty he almost definitely is). Who do you put in place of Mittelstadt? Can't just pull him out and I doubt Botterill trades Thompson either (same basic reason). Maybe Asplund but not sure how much value he has in the league. I went with the overpay from the Buffalo perspective.

The sens need Bobby's cap hit this year and next. Okposo is actually less useful in this regard, and he stays around an extra year when he's not even needed for cap purposes.
As far as the actual value of the trade, it should be skewed in favor of Ottawa, not Buffalo. Tierney and a 2nd is way more valuable than Mittlestadt, who hasn't been anything more than mediocre since turning pro.
"Melnyk cheap lol" is such a flimsy and lazy premise for bad trades that are unfair to Ottawa.</div></div>
You're making a faulty assumption: that they're going to pay all those guys. Cap hit = money in all those deals. Melnyk's track record speaks for itself. To think it is suddenly going to change in the midst of an economic climate that is only going to tighten...yeah, no. It'll only get worse. He will still be wanting cap in, money out deals and trading away good players for futures. Welcome to Buffalo's world: selling hope each year, every year.

Even if Buffalo did want to sell low on Mittelstadt, no way they deal with STL again after how the O'Reilly theft turned out. The PR would be a nightmare and Buffalo ownership has to be really aware of their image right now.

Agreed on Pilut. Way underrated.
I'd sign Montour to the same deal you did $4-4.5M but hold him to the deadline. Likely more return then. Trade Risto for whatever you can get now instead.
I'd rather take a chance on Mittelstadt turning it around than take that pile of trash.

Pretty sure NJ says no. Blackwood was pretty good on a bad team. Winnipeg trade looks a bit off too. I don't think Winnipeg does it as is (Buffalo definitely needs to add) but the concept is good. Throw in Risto and get a pick back (2nd or 3rd) and maybe we're there.
