Van - CbJ at the draft

I admit VAN probably has to add more but I also feel like CBJ fans are significantly overvaluing Kent Johnson....</div></div>
It's the fact that the Blue Jackets do not need more quantity. Why trade a 21 y/o who is NHL capable for a bunch of parts that may never pan out as NHLers? It's non-sense and exactly how you stagnate your entire organization into a farm system for the rest of the league.

Valid if there hadn't been about a dozen or more other Habs fans making similar proposals lately.

Not a chance the Jackets take on Copp's contract. Would rather let Provorov walk as a UFA than take that deal.

Once again, these KJ offers are awful and not even slightly appealing. There is zero incentive for the Jackets to trade one of their highest drafted and highest potential young players for parts less than 3 years after drafting him. They have a prospect pool that is overflowing with depth and very short on high end talent. These Montreal offers are not what they need. If you want to talk Caufield, Suzuki, or Slafkovsky for KJ+ then we can talk. Otherwise, just give up.

Suzuki, Caufield, or Slafkovsky for KJ+ are about the only trades that interest me from the Canadiens. The Jackets are hoping KJ turns into a top 6 winger and those are the only 3 guys that have that level of skill from the Habs that make sense to trade KJ for.

Absolutely don't get why so many of you Habs fans think these awful offers would get KJ, but none of them are close.

Would the Jackets Trade Sillinger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Mostly seconding what other Jackets fans have already said: no reason to move Sillinger for lesser parts and prospects/picks. He's still very young and starting to look pretty good already.
Is he untouchable? No. But if we're moving him to Toronto it's as a package deal for Matthews/Knies/Nylander (an upgrade), not a lateral move. Since Toronto would never do that, Columbus would never trade Sillinger there.</div></div>
I wouldn't call Knies an upgrade on Sillinger. Knies is playing probably the most enviable position in the league in terms of linemates and he's barely outproducing Sillinger who is also becoming a very competent PK contributor. Considering Knies is also a winger as opposed to a center I'd argue that's a downgrade for the Jackets.

shaking things up with Celebrini
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Viqsi</b></div><div>That's the thing, tho - top-4 RD is already a need, and taking this deal would make current/future top pairing RD also a need. (And I think KJ is already potentially expendable in the pursuit of that endeavor before acquiring a Stutzle.)</div></div>
It is currently a need, and there's no guarantee Jiricek is the answer. Stutzle however is as close to a guaranteed top 3 winger the team is going to get and it gives them assets to move for a more certain RD fit. The only way the Jackets regret this move is if Jiricek turns into a legit yearly Norris contender and I just don't have faith in that with how his skating is and the trend towards faster, more mobile defensemen.

Also, while that's a decent offer for Saros, I don't think that'd do it. Deferred and/or late 1st picks don't really entice. Even though it's very good value.</div></div>
I'd take this deal in a heartbeat. Would just make KJ expendable in the search for another top 4 RD.

If they were going to it would never be for lesser parts. The Jackets do not need more depth in their prospect pool which is something the people on this site cannot seem to grasp. A 20 y/o developing center with 208 NHL games under his belt already does not get moved for cheap.

On the cost alone, I don't think it would cost more. Boone's peak value was this past trade deadline when he still would have been on the acquiring team for 3 playoff runs. I think his value just goes down from now on as the time left on his current contract decreases and it will really fall off if he doesn't continue to score at a 30+ goal pace like he has the last few years.

Are we catching on to the pattern here?
WPG/CBJ play Physical Tough Playoff Hockey 82 games
How's that been on Laine?
MTL plays more of a "Floater " style for his type of players or "The Pacioretty Play"
We're more about Speed, Transition and Drawing Penalties off big hits.
Laine will be a lot less beat up in MTL which is saying something lol
But you held onto Anderson until you got no value in return was the point i was making by closing my statement with it to reflect on</div></div>
Dude, give it up. You're debating with emotion and your gut and zero facts. He had covid a couple times, his dad died, he had a weird elbow hyperextension, he strained his tricep practicing faceoffs too much, he took a dirty high hit in the final seconds of a game that was essentially over, he took a slewfoot and fell awkwardly, and now he's in the player assistance program. These things don't go away with a change of scenery. Despite all that **** he scored at a 38 goal/ 82 point pace and a 33 goal/ 78 point pace in his last two seasons. He has been just as good or better than he ever was in Winnipeg.
The Jackets also haven't been nearly the kind of physical team they were under Torts in years. They're a team that plays with speed and transition offense. Their biggest shortcomings are their abysmal special teams and their defensive play. Trading away a player like Laine who can actually contribute on a PP would be silly.

That said we'd have to send back Anderson or Gally in any deal along with CGY's 1st
So what about a 1st, 3rd , Gally for Laine</div></div>
He had his two best seasons in terms of point rate in Columbus and he developed a competent defensive game there. There's nothing to suggest he would be any better in Montreal.

No. The Jackets have no need to make cap space at the moment. They don't have any potentially pressing contract negotiations until after Laine expires and if they really need to they can trade Elvis with a minor retention going into 2026-27.

Yeah! Why should a team look to maximize the returns they can get on players they'd probably like to move? They should be leaping at the opportunity to take the Leafs' castaways.
