He also has to be able to explain the moves he makes if he decides to pursue another job in the league. Throwing the Jackets another anchor on his way out the door at the cost of multiple future pieces would be very hard to justify. At the moment his moves have been mostly defendable, but just didn't work out the way he hoped they would.

The Jackets trading any young players or picks for more vets to try to bolster their rancid, aging core would be insane right now.

Not sure why either side considers that Chinakhov/Hoglander swap. Chinny is meshing well with the other Russian kids in Columbus and Hoglander seems to be finally settling in in Vancouver.

Is the CBJ selling off core pieces
We'll see when the TDL comes around. If they're hovering around .500 then I doubt it. If they're below .350 and there are perceived leadership issues then I could see it happening. I kinda doubt Jarmo would get the ok to make any big changes like that though since he'd likely be on the verge of getting fired if they're that bad late in the season.

Jackets decline. Elvis has turned the corner and is earning his contract again now. No chance they trade him for the worst goalie in the league.

i dont know if hes the guy
No idea why some Oilers fans think the Jackets would stick by Elvis through the awful last couple years he has had, get him a new goalie coach, and rebuild the defense in front of him just to trade him for the worst goalie in the league at the first signs of him turning his game around.

Big things
Can't see Chinakhov getting traded any time soon. They've finally put the Russian line together of Marchenko-Voronkov-Chinakhov and they've been good. Chinakhov's issue was icetime and opportunities and he's getting plenty of both now. There isn't gonna be a trade request.

Big time pass. Elvis is actually decent this year and the goalie coach change seems to have worked. The picks coming from the Oilers hardly even cover just dumping Campbell.

Jackets definitely pass. Elvis has turned his game around this year, Campbell is still a total anchor. Neither Mcleod or Niemelainen are interesting at all either.

Jenner is your 3C for the foreseeable future and I think you just need to be patient with the other 2 to progress but giving them more top wingers would speed up the process</div></div>
Sillinger makes for a better 3C long term than he does a 2C. There's also no guarantee KJ will be able to adapt his game to make him a viable top 6C option. They're much better if they can get Boone out of the top 6 and into a 3rd line wing role going forward imo. They already have plenty of top 6 wingers, they need a talented 1C that can elevate a line to a true 1st option instead of what they've been trying to work with.

So Jackets give up the best player in the trade, a better young player, retain 3.2M over 3 years on Laine, AND have to take on Kadri's anchor of a contract just so they can overpay Lindholm next year? Who could say no?

Jackets aren't investing that much in a guy who likely walks after two non-playoff years. They'd only consider a move like this for a very good 1C who can be signed long term.

Not sure how Liljegren would get an expanded role in Columbus. If anything he'd be in the same position Peeke is in now which would make trading a 1st for him incredibly unwise.

Thought
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>I know I probably sound like a broken record here, but Laine is highly unlikely to draw a 1st at this point in time. He isn’t scoring, and certainly not to the degree in which he is being paid, which is really bad because he is an all offense sniper. I mean, 5 points in 13 games is rather pitiful for Laine. I get the Jackets suck, but it’s not like Laine isn’t surrounded by high end forwards. Between Drury and Lemiuex, 9 total points in 29 games played total, leads to a combined point pace of 34 points. Laine’s projected pace is currently at 32 points over a 82 game season.
The fact that Laine, a top line winger, is projected to be outscored by the combined totals of 2 replacement level 4th liners, is rather alarming, don’t you think. I mean, discounting was he has been in seasons past, would you give up anything of value for a player whose only positive trait is their offense, and is only projected to score 32 points, whilst getting paid 8.7mil for 2 seasons beyond this current one?</div></div>
God I wish people who haven't paid attention to how his game has developed over the last 3 years would stop acting like they know who he is. It's getting ridiculous.

Uh, Jackets do this trade in a heartbeat if Voronkov isn't involved.
Voronkov isn't going anywhere though as others have said. He's looking like a legit power forward whose neutral zone game and ability to disrupt breakouts are incredible. He also just said last night that he's committed to giving the NHL a fair shake after speaking with friends and family in Russia and having the team rally around him.

Barzal is a good player. That's it though. He's a good player making $9M.</div></div>
It's funny how people try to make these stats about Laine's games played totals seem like a way longer standing issue than they have been. Only 82 players had 70+ games in 19-20 and nobody played 70+ games in 20-21. It's really only the last 2 seasons where he has missed a significant number of games and a large number of those are attributable still to contracting covid multiple times and his father passing away.

KJ never stopped being untouchable imo. His skillset is ridiculous. He just needs more time for his body to mature which is why they have him on a nutrition and weight lifting program in the A.
