McDavid for Matthews - WILL IT GO THROUGH

Quoting: drewjenks

I think you guys need to actually look at (comparable) stats before you scream .....
McDavid plays 4.5 minutes per night more than Matthews + he gets 1 extra minute of PP time.
Him and Drai play more than any other forwards in the league (forward depth issues?)
Below are "all situation" production stats (I didn't include even-strength or primary-point stats ... but they do make Matthews look better than these one):
2018-19 SEASON
Points Per 60 Minutes | McDavid = 3.951 = 3rd in the NHL
Points Per 60 Minutes | Matthews = 3.531 = 10th in the NHL
Goals Per 60 Minutes | Matthews = 1.815 = 3rd in the NHL
Goals Per 60 Minutes | McDavid = 1.408 = 27th in the NHL
2017-18 SEASON
Points Per 60 Minutes | McDavid = 3.669 = 6th in the NHL
Points Per 60 Minutes | Matthews = 3.363 = 10th in the NHL
Goals Per 60 Minutes | Matthews = 1.815 = 2nd in the NHL
Goals Per 60 Minutes | N. Kadri = 1.432 = 19th in the NHL (bonus)
Goals Per 60 Minutes | McDavid = 1.393 = 26th in the NHL
2016-17 SEASON
Points Per 60 Minutes | McDavid = 3.464 = 5th in the NHL
Points Per 60 Minutes | Matthews = 2.866 = 15th in the NHL (rookie)
Goals Per 60 Minutes | Matthews = 1.661 = 4th in the NHL (rookie)
Goals Per 60 Minutes | N.Kadri = 1.413 = 18th in the NHL (bonus)
Goals Per 60 Minutes | McDavid = 1.039 = 77th in the NHL
Goals Per 60 Minutes | C.Brown = 0.902 = 106th in the NHL (bonus + rookie)
So when we look purely at overall point production as everyone is suggesting .... they're quite evenly matched.
- Matthews scores more and McDavid gets more points.
- I think points are more important than goals (check for McDavid)
- But the scoring gap has been wider than the point gap over 3 years (check for Matthews)
- Kadri has also scored at a higher rate than McDavid over the past 3 seasons.
With that in mind:
1. Matthews even strength production looks better than this (when compared to McDavid).
2. Matthews primary point production looks better than this (when compared to McDavid).
3. Matthews advanced defensive stats look better than this (when compared to McDavid).
4. Over the past 3 seasons Kadri has out produced every Oiler except McDavid + Draisaitl (with 3 more years at 4.5M).
5. Over the past 3 seasons Brown has out produced every Oiler except McDavid + Draisaitl + RNH (for 2.1M + RFA expiry).
6. Matthews + Kadri + Brown would have all been among the Oilers best defensive forwards during this period.
So ya ... this trade should make the Oilers better right now and in the future (Matthews is younger than McDavid and there are added futures).
And it's fair to state that points don't grow linearly with ice-time .... but they'll clearly jump with an extra minute of PP time and 25% more TOI.
FINAL NOTE: Kadri is not "crap" .... he's as good as RNH (I watch both). Babcock shoved him into a shut-down role and he does it well.

Quoting: drewjenks

Ma Man... the "expected goal range" was 70-90 goals from these 3 .... and they've averaged exactly 79 over 3 years.
With 6 (combined) games left in the season .... the trend projects them to average exactly 80 goals by this seasons end.
Matthews = 38 goal average over the last 3 seasons (while only averaging 70 games)
Kadri = 27 goal average over the last 3 seasons.
Brown = 14 goal average over the last 3 seasons.
And if Matthews didn't miss 36 games than their average would have been 87 goals combined.
So a 70-90 range is not a stretch .... it's actually quite conservative considering I assumed McDavid would stay 100% healthy.
But I guess haters gonna hate.

Lol. I love how you just left out assists as a whole. BTW, p/60 is a dumb stat. McDavid pks. When players play more they get tired. Otherwise good players will play the entire game. McDavid>>>>>>>>>>>>>Matthews. Why don't we look at actual stats? McDavid has finished 1, 1, and 2 in the past 3 years. Matthews is yet to crack 80 points. And Nuge >>>> Kadri. Nuge also plays a shut down role and just finished the year with 70 points, playing with wingers like Chiasson and Lucic. Haters hating because of your dumb posts. Honestly, I cannot believe you spent the time making that post. Bye.

Matthews has cracked 70 points once. McDavid is on pace for 125. We get a middle six center, and then a bunch of spare bits. Our roster looks far worse.

Which team has the best prospects
The Oilers have a top-5 prospect pool:
Evan Bouchard - blue-chip top-pairing potential.
Kailer Yamamoto - top-6 winger
Tyler Benson - top-6 winger (1st in rookie scoring in the AHL)
Dimiri Samarukov - top-4 D (just one 3 awards for best defensive defensemen in OHL)
Ethan Bear - top-4 D
Caleb Jones - top-4 D
Ryan McLeod - 3rd line center
Kiril Maksimov - boom or bust - potential top-6 winger or bust
Cooper Marody - middle six center
Lagesson - 2nd-3rd pairing defensive defensemen.
They also have a great crop of goalie prospects:
Skinner, Rodrigue, Hawkey, Starret.

Quite an odd mock draft. McMichael, Pelletier, Tomasino, and Heinola are all missing. You're wayy to high on Robertson, Honka, Foot, Broberg. I think in general you like toolsy guys, rather than high IQ guys.
Zegras and Boldy are also way too low.

Oilers prospects - whos traded and who makes the team nxt szn
The Oilers prospect pool is so underrated. We take all this crap about how they can't draft and develop players, but their drafting actually improved under Chiarelli. Pulju is the only bust in the past few years, and even he has hope.
Samorukov, Jones, and Bear all have legit chances at becoming top-4 Dmen. Bouchard could become Jon Carlson. Persson and Lagesson also provide interesting skill sets. Shane Starret is leading the AHL in GAA. Benson and Marody are 3rd an 4th in rookie scoring in the AHL as well. Yams is improving, Maksimov a high ceiling. This team actually has a bright future.

This is dumb. Why would you trade a young, top pairing defensemen for a 2nd and 3rd, and then severely overpay for a far worse defensemen, and force him to play his off side. You keep your young players in a rebuild.

Quoting: biglite351

Do Oiler fans realize that Puljujarvi has zero value (maybe a 4th to a desperate GM) and if you want to move Lucic you are going to be giving 1st/prospects and getting nothing in return?
In the trade above it would be more like: Lucic, Puljujarvi, Benson, 1st to NYR for a 3rd. No Kreider. Benson and the 1st to take Lucic without retention, the 3rd as a gift for Puljujarvi and a little makeup for the 1st. The 1st can be protected to some level.

This is so dumb. Dylan Strome was 21 and with a small add he returned Nick Schmaltz, a young 40-50 point center. Pulju is 20, and has accomplished more than Strome at the same point in their careers. And it looks like his balance and boardwork issues were due to a hip issue which he is getting fixed. In the preseason he was a beast, before he had his hip issues.
We don't need to add more than Pulju to dump Lucic. Benson is a great prospect, and the 1st speaks for itself. I'm tired of hearing these uninformed posters on capfriendly trying to establish their own value for Pulju and Lucic.

I never said he's the second coming of Scott Stevens. But he is a legit top-4 defensemen. Those cost a lot. Changing the pick won't make a difference. There is still no incentive for the Oilers.

Quoting: SammyT_51

Oilers should take it, they traded backup NHLer for AHL goalie.. maybe add higher pick from Toronto, 2nd rounder.. Brown might be the best winger Oilers would have and he has long lasting chemistry with Brown who was his linemate for 2 seasons in junior.. Larsson has negative value this season as well.. this trade would be the needed change of scenery for both of them.. Zaitsev doesnt have negative value, he has low value thats true for sure. Since he is not with Gardiner he is very solid and more confident and I feel that more happy as well. He was misplayed the whole time and since with Muzzin or Dermott, he was maybe our best D on defensive side of things and he isnt even supposed to be defensive defenceman when he came into the league.. His contract might be a bit longer but he would be a good good piece for Edmonton.. he is not the sharpest skater, not the best defenceman in the world but he is a good defenceman and change of scenery would definitely help him. Also Brown should be Oilers target if they want to become any good.. he has heart and hustle and scoring ability to be best winger on Oilers.. none of Oilers wingers would make the Leafs, some of them maybe 4th line role.. they should take it!

I can't believe you just wrote an entire paragraph trying to justify that trade. It is terrible. Oilers say hell no. Quality >>>>> Quantity.
You can't just package a meh winger, a cap dump, and a low pick and hope it has some value. This isn't NHL 19.

So, is Cale Makar a bust? He's Pulju's age and hasn't played a game in the NHL. Age is one of the most important factors when judging whether a player is a bust.
