Boston didn't have good defense at all, especially this year lol, what are you on about. And Demko did just fine with Vancouver.

Halak has put up 91,9% and 90,5% in the past 2 years.
Holtby was sub 90 in both.

Vancouver are doing right. They're getting rid of the bad contracts to have cap space to sign good ones, like this. As for every good Arizona player, Garland is underrated and a very good acquisition by Canucks. Nice job. I'd like to see Vancouver competitive like they were back in Sedin's time. We'll see...

Garland Horvat Hoglander may be the most "blue-collar" line in the NHL.
Also, biggest winner of this deal is Horvat. Finally gets a consistent winger.

(ARI/VAN) - Ekman-Larsson, Garland for Beagle, Eriksson, Roussel, 1st, 2nd, 7th
Assuming Hughes signs for 6M AAV on a bridge deal, VAN will be paying Tyler Myers, Quinn Hughes, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Nate Schmidt a total of over 25M against the cap. That does not look like a sound defensive core

Still does not matter
All their future contracts are gonna make all that space go bye bye quickly
Vancouver has 1 year to show us what they got
Petterson, Hughes, Horvat, Boeser, Garland, Hoglander among others wont come cheap. That 18mill in cap space will be gone before we know it. Especially when we consider Benning as the gm.

god, this league is something else sometimes.
vancouver:
+ Benning dumped bad contracts that he signed
+ got cap space for signing Hughes and Pettersson
+ Conor Garland's pretty good
- had to take on OEL's contract
- burned draft capital (including the 9th overall pick) to fix his previous mistakes re: bad contracts
- how exactly are they going to find cap room to pay Garland what he's worth?
arizona:
+ got the 9th overall pick and more draft capital
+ got rid of a long-term contract in OEL's for shorter-term contracts in Beagle, Eriksson, and Roussel
- let Conor Garland go
both teams got what they wanted, but it seems like vancouver gave up more to get what they wanted.

Umm, it might save Benning’s job, but it also set the Canucks back half a decade in terms of being able to ice a contending lineup.

Arizona takes on $12 million in cap for 1 year. They also save $42 million in cap over 6 years. After Garland signs, this year’s cap hits should probably balance out.
Short-term I like this deal for the Canucks. The problem is, it’s bad long-term, this really hurts their cup chances at any point in the future. This is a loss for the Canucks, because they aren’t a contender this season. This is almost certainly a move made because Jim Benning is trying to keep his job. Either that or he’s just incompetent.
This is an absolute win for the Yotes. OEL is good just to get off the books, no matter the return. The cap dumps are just one year, so they’re clearing a bunch of cap space in subsequent years. And Garland for 9th overall & a 2nd is a win for Arizona.

This trade is not great for one team
but brutal for the other. You know who’s who.
Arizona continues to hoard trash and picks.
And all I can is Benning has both improved the Canucks while also financially crippling them. Therefore he has also.. not improved the Canucks… so sounds about right for Jimbo..

Idk if you want Gudbranson trying to to tell Brannstrom and JBD, Mete too how to play as puck moving /TW defence. They got a game named Chabot that can help them. Plus it’s just gonna result in more exciting hockey in Ottawa

Deal is addition by subtraction for Ottawa.
Sens have really improved their Blueline down the stretch. Going from a bottom 4 of Reilly-Zub Brannstrom-Gudbranson to Brannstrom-Zub Mete-Bernard-Docker is a huge win.

Yes.
- Highmore is older than Gaudette

Vancouver Canucks signed Tanner Pearson (3 Years / $3,250,000 AAV)

Quoting: Wqrrior

People like to laugh at Benning before all else.
Lets counter some arguments:
- they kept pearson but not toffoli: yes. We have room next year. There was no room last year.
- now there's no cap for the big RFAs: benning has proven that he is very good at dealing with RFAs, assuming 7x3 for both players, there's still plenty of cap to work with. More if Loui is bought out and Beagle rides LTIR (his injury seems bad)
- pearson isn't worth this money in this market: Probably not, but how much of an overpay is it? A quarter million? He was a huge asset for the team last year and has taken a step back like everyone else. His impact on improving Horvat's game is alone worth it. This is a locker room guy to the same extent as Tanev or Markstrom.
tldr: this is a bit more money than I was wanting, but not to the level of laughing at. even if he plays the 3rd line, he's the first player we have had in that role that looks like a decent bottom sixer in some time. Good signing? Nah.... but it ain't a bad one either.

Lets counter your counter arguments as well:
OG - Why keep Pearson but not Toffoli? (Correct).
YOU - We have room next year. There was no room last year (Wrong).
FACTS - They had room for Schmidt ($6,000,000) + Holtby ($4,300,000) + Virtanen ($2,600,000).
OG - Pearson isn't worth this money in this market (Correct).
YOU - Probably not (Good start ... should've stopped there).
FACTS - And he's especially not worth it for an extremely cap-crunched team with their 2 best players unsigned.
OG - Now there's no cap for the big RFAs (Correct).
YOU - Benning has proven that he is very good at dealing with RFAs (Wrong).
FACTS - Virtanen was just overpaid + Demko's cap-hit is 2-4 times larger than every comparable (and all had a higher career SV%).
