Not trading JG, and Boone is not, nor has ever been, available.
If the richest asset coming to CBJ is Holtz, it's not enough.

With retention on JGP, I’d consider it.
Also major red flags on that Duclair contract.

I get that, but don’t see any motivation for Perron to do this. He’s not going to a contender, he’s not taking a hometown discount to stay with a team, and he’s not going to mentor Bedard. He’ll have a market, and probably one from a playoff team that would pay him at least within the ballpark of this.
Outside of Boqvist and Peterson, I pass on everything.

“Three cap hits at G.” Difference there. Poor cap management, and if the goal is just to get to the cap floor, there could be better options at doing so without three UFA contracts I don’t think will/should happen (not sure what Nedeljkovic has done to warrant both a two-year deal and a raise, nor do I see Perron or Kylington signing up just to be TDL bait).
If anything, the goal would be to look at locking up some of the RFA’s for longer term at bigger cap hits, and but out some UFA years. At least in that sense you are potentially maximizing cap down the line.

Sure for Boqvist;
Hard pass on the Laine trade;
Provorov will be a TDL move for a 1st;
Not sure why PHI would make that trade, but CBJ accept;
AN won’t be signed - CBJ won’t be carrying three NHL cap hits at G;
No idea why Perron would waste twilight years playing for a rebuilding team;

Merzlikins solution
I'm just not sure I see FLA trading Knight, particularly since he is waivers exempt for another season and his contract coincides with Bob's.
That being said, I still aim to give Campbell a try-out with CBJ. Greaves is waivers exempt next season, and I want all the time possible to let him develop - big fan of where he could head.
Best case? He's a case of goalie-voodoo, and bounces back to even an average G. Worst case? We buy him out next off-season.
I also like the idea of CBJ and EDM swapping D reclamation projects - maybe send them Bean or Boqvist in exchange for Broberg or something. SPeaking of, really don't think Bean has 3rd-rounder value.
Then again, <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/814626">what the hell do I know.</a>

A Fun Offseason
I'm intrigued for CBJ. First concern is Skinner and Severson waiving, which Im not confident would happen.
On top of that, CBJ would need to move Laine. He and Skinner are redundant, and we are already flush with Fs.
I'm also not sure there is a role for Krebs with CBJ. Maybe loop in a 3rd team (SJ? AZ?) that would take a bridge-flyer on him.

Boqvist, Elvis, Bean/Provy, and probably one other F needs out. Ideally, that would be Laine, but he is understandably in a difficult position for many reasons right now.
Maybe I give Nylander a 2 x $1M to buy out his first UFA year, but I'd probably only QO him.
Greaves is still waivers exempt next year, so my priority is keeping him in CLE. Maybe we get <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/5016068">a G swap in an Elvis trade</a>; but, otherwise, I'd sign some cheap vet to man the pipes with Tarry for one year.
But yeah - so much of this roster needs changed in the offseason.

Off-season GM scenario - Necas
Intriguing FLA trade; but, I don't think FLA moves away from Knight for that little.
SJ, nor any team, is going to commit an act of charity for CBJ and take on Elvis for that little. Any good GM is going to make it hurt. I'd be willing to retain and ship him off elsewhere (I mean, I guess maybe SJ or AZ take him on just to hit the cap floor?), but still dont think CBJ get off so easily.
I'm not so sold on Necas. I'd have concern on his ability to produce outside of CAR's system, and throwing that much term and dollars at him before putting on a CBJ sweater would make me nervous. Not to mention, I'm not moving the '25 1st without heavy protections. This is a better team, sure, but I'm not comfortable calling this a playoff team yet.

The reason why trading most draft picks is a big reason for our struggles
Not sure you’re getting <a href="https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/john-tavares-shares-photo-illustrate-childhood-dream-181109014.html" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Johnny Jammies</a> to waive to go anywhere.
But I get it. TOR has a great team, just a lot of not-great luck when the calendar turns to April. A major shake-up could do wonders; but, not sure you're getting any of the big-four to do it themselves.

offseason
I think you are on the right track with who is getting traded; but, the returns dont line up with what CBJ need/where they are. Bean is also more than likely a non-QO UFA, and KJ is going to get more; but, yes - the prospects are al llikely bridge-deal candidates.
I'm a fan of Kulak, but this feels like a CBJ overpay. The Strum and Armia trades feel more like lateral moves than anything.
The main concern for CBJ right now is trimming the roster down - there are a number of guys who need to be moved to open up roster spots for the youngin's, both on D and at F. If we are moving players, the aim is to either get draft picks for them, or young waivers-exempt players that can be housed in CLE.

Solid Team
Dewar has 39 points in 178 career games. Even outside of his CBJ magic, Nylander has 45 in 111.
Even with a 5th, I’d rather gamble on Nylander having found some juju with CBJ and maybe be a solid M6 guy who can be had for cheap (a la Bunting).
Worst case, he’s some proven AHL depth - the same thing as Dewar.

Chatfield and Ollivier in RobertsonKampfReaves out
If James Malatesta can make the team next year out of camp, I could maybe see it for CBJ. He projects as a similar B6 pest who can maybe pot 10+ goals. Frankly, we’d just be buying Reaves out.
$1.8M in actual cash for the buyout, minus the $1.1M in cash to Olivier, so it’s a question of if CBJ are willing to buy a 3rd for $700k.

It isn’t a bad-conditioning issue, it’s mostly bad luck. He’s fortunate he’s spent the majority of his time with CBJ as a near PPG player (.793 PPG). The problem is, timelines don’t match, and there are younger (and in JG’s case, more expensive) guys who need the T6 time.

I’d probably take that for Laine. I think he can thrive, but it’s increasingly apparent it has to be in a specific situation - he ain’t the bus-driver CBJ thought they were getting. CAR feels like it could make it work for him.
Also, remember the cap is going to $87.5 next season. Not sure how much retention adds to the package, but a consideration.

I'd take Danforth over Gauthier, but we're still talking a B6 guy in either regard, for a team needing F spots. As other lines are gelling in some fashion, Nylander continues to make it difficult to move on, and we have a whole other high-end line on LTIR, I jsut shrug my shoulders at this and say "sure."
Gauthier is just fine as AHL depth, a cheap buy-out, or the ever-patented Reaves-esque "Guy-Who-Is-Big."
