my idea if Marner leaves
marners hit needs to be north of 12.5mill to warrant not matching a sheet, 10mill doesnt actually get them 4 x 1sts

Leafs Post Draft
long term the marleau trade doesnt change anything, zaitsev is the long term contract the team will have to move out, Brown as well. that will free up 7mill in cap space allowing the leafs to take a smaller cap hit dman back and sign multiple veteran dmen at 1mill a piece (girardi, hainsey, orpik for example)

Leafs Trade for Ceci in 18-19 Year
matthews 10-11, marner 7-8, nylander 6-7 all on 8 yr deals. winning matters long term, money will come from other avenues in toronto and with winning. contracts will be heavely front loaded so they can invest early on. tavares market value in his prime was 13+ Mill. nobody on this team recieves more than JT regardless of potential and future cap increases

nyles will be in the range of 5.75 to 6.25 mill at max....look at the market and players whove signed at his age/position and points per game. hes not a proven centre so you cant pay him more than a pastranak i believe....then we start talking home town disocunt and keeping the group together but getting the big 3 to resign at market value, could be 5.5...we wont know for a couple week really.

finally someone i can agree with. i think that demelo signing will happen in the next couple days. maybe auston, nyles and marner take a tad less but dubas isnt afraid to keep all the kids at market value and promised that to JT. this is perfect. good job!.

i agree that the tavares number is low, but so is crosby and malkins. some players are not all about the money, the chance to win means more. hoping the same applies for the leafs big 3....if not, they will end up like the hawks in 5 yrs...but i guess you cant complain with 3 cups.

maybe make that 1st rd pick from carolina 2019 and top 15 protected and i believe thats a good deal.

Cory's Team
If leafs are going to sign anyone more than 1 yr, you will need to move Nylander or Marner. UNLESS the cap goes up another 8 mill like it did this yr. This isnt that far off from what might happen but maybe reduce carlson and nylanders deal to 7.5 and 6 mill respectfully to make it fit long term.

tanev deal is overpaying i believe considering his injury history...maybe gardiner isnt the right move to make there but honestly, i just want him gone.

Liljegren is the youngest defencemen in the AHL by 18 months so i do agree with that but looking at our right handed dmen internally that come relatively cheap is the only reason i added him in there. maybe another yr in the A will benefit us for the following 3 yrs of entry level deal once the big 3 start getting paid and marleau is still on the books.

the point of this estimate is that IF JT signs, its a fantasy team. expecting it to be accurate is about 20 million to 1 odds. its for fun, dont get bent out of shape about it .

im expecting that 1st rd pick to be unprotected and detroit wont get better plus IF tavares signs, a move will need to be made so a little less for him based on having to make a move.

money comes from many different sources when playing the for the leafs. we are seeing it already with the big 3 in their commercials and sponsorships. salary might not matter as long as these source keep feeding there pockets, they will take less to make this team great for years to come. the penguins model is working long term. hawks model has died off quick. big difference between what malkin/crosby are getting paid compared to towes/kane.

10.5 is a good number in another market, they offered stamkos a lower salary knowing the big 3 will need to be signed down the line. he was offered close to 9mill and took less in tampa. they also promised stamkos his salary will come from other sources by signing in toronto. i believe the same will be said to JT. thanks for the input!

i dont think the contracts listed are that far off than market value, they are wingers and play a 1 way game. If they want to contend going forward, matthews, marner and nylander total salaries will need to stay under 20-22 million long term. Matthews might deserve 10-12 million based on eichels/mcdavids deal but lets be real, hes not mcdavid. AND Eichel was overpaid to stay in buffalo. i see it pan out around 8.5 to 9mill for matthews, 6 and 6 for marner/nylander. i really like this proposal on our 2020 team.
