Watch out for the Pens fans that think they're getting a haul for Gentzel. TDL deals are always underwhelming. I think this is a good return for Pittsburgh.

For Those Wanting Jake
I think you should prepare yourself for disappointment. Pens need to move him or he will walk. They can’t afford him otherwise. He will likely get a 1st but I don’t think any high end prospects along with it. There aren’t a lot of teams with 1sts, the ability to absorb his salary and the need for a high end rental. I agree with above, the trade deadline market never yields a big return. You can dispute that all you want; Dubas doesn’t have the leverage here and the other GM’s know it.

Word is Seguin is going on LTIR. If that happens they need a center stat and why not use that cap space to add a major piece?

I think you all are overestimating the amount of teams that will be willing to cough up a 1st for a rental. The trade deadline market is never as robust as everyone thinks it will be. Middelstedt I'll give you is probably a bit low given his RFA status. I imagine the Guentzel market for a year will not be what the public thinks it should be.

Hayes just got moved for a 6th with 50% retention. Sharks fans need to prepare for what they get back in a Karlsson deal. He basically dictates where he is willing to go, and the Sharks have to oblige that.

Arizona isn't retaining 20 on Karlsson, they'd be retaining 10. And right now they're so below the cap they honestly have to pick up some awful contracts just to hit the floor.

They've been trying to move Karlsson for 2 years and the only reason they can't is because they refuse to retain. I'm not saying a 1st here, but I don't think Dallas would be the one paying to manage SJ's books. Dallas will only care about the overall retention, and if SJ wants to go another route to get that number down on their books, that's the only way to do it. Either way, I'm not talking a 1st here.

My thought is the 2nd is likely to take the Marchment contract. You have to move him or Faksa for a deal to work. Would much prefer to move the worse player on a higher dollar and term, but that costs you.

And when did Marchment become a cap dump?</div></div>
Grushnikov is a good player, and is more in line with the young core they're about to develop. Also he's cheaper. The Hakanpaa is a cap dump. He only has 1 year left at low dollars, so not worth too much. Marchment became a cap dump around Halloween. He's terrible and he's locked up for 3 more years. Convincing a team to take his contract is not going to be easy.

1. He doesn't. He's a replacement level player at best.
2. He has 3 years left on his deal. Asking a team to take on that contract will require some decent comp.

I'm keeping Delly at this point. He is the future captain of this team. I would think AZ would be insistent on a top level prospect, and I think Stankoven is a no-deal caliber prospect. This team has a log jam at C the next 5 years so I thought Bourque was the best fit.

My thought was that I imagine AZ is on both NMC lists. Dobby is the best salary dump they can do without a trade block. And scratching Suter is my call hahaha. It doesn't' change the cap figure at all.

St Louis losing Husso is a big deal. Binnington was pretty great in the playoffs, but was flat out awful all year prior to that. Perron also leaving is a large hole in their forward group. I don't think they put up 109 points again.

Stars fans HELP
Diehard Stars fan here. See below.
1. Where will Dallas finish in the ranking? I think they're getting a bump from a coaching change and think Marchment adds some spice to the Top 6. My prediction is still 3rd/4th in the Central, fighting for a WC with St Louis (half step back), Minnesota (half step back) and Nashville (half step up). I think they'll be a better team than last year and much more fun to watch, but that division is still a massive log jam in the middle.
2. What will most likely be the PP? Robertson, Hintz, Pavelski/Seguin, Marchment, Heiskanen
3. Who is likely to have a breakout year or who will surprise in terms of point production? Who is advantaged by the line combinations? Marchment and Gurianov. They are likely even to be line mates, either on the top line with Hintz or second line with Seguin. They compliment each other really well, Marchment as a physical puck hound with the speed to play against top lines and strong forecheck; and Gurianov as a finisher to operate in open space but needs to play with someone that will stand up physically and create that space for him.
4. Who is likely to have a bad year in point production? Benn. DeBoer's system is going to be tough for him to adjust to, and there's a situation where he ends up playing on the 4th line. Still think he can have an impact on the roster and be a good captain, but there's not the upside for him that Seguin has to gain from a new system. I also think Peterson will have a tough time is he's stuck on the 3rd line and potentially gets pushed out by Stankoven/Bourque/Johnston.
5. How many games each goalie is likely to play? 55ish for Oettinger, 25ish for Wedgewood.
