I'm keeping Delly at this point. He is the future captain of this team. I would think AZ would be insistent on a top level prospect, and I think Stankoven is a no-deal caliber prospect. This team has a log jam at C the next 5 years so I thought Bourque was the best fit.

My thought was that I imagine AZ is on both NMC lists. Dobby is the best salary dump they can do without a trade block. And scratching Suter is my call hahaha. It doesn't' change the cap figure at all.

St Louis losing Husso is a big deal. Binnington was pretty great in the playoffs, but was flat out awful all year prior to that. Perron also leaving is a large hole in their forward group. I don't think they put up 109 points again.

Thread:
Stars fans HELP
Diehard Stars fan here. See below.
1. Where will Dallas finish in the ranking? I think they're getting a bump from a coaching change and think Marchment adds some spice to the Top 6. My prediction is still 3rd/4th in the Central, fighting for a WC with St Louis (half step back), Minnesota (half step back) and Nashville (half step up). I think they'll be a better team than last year and much more fun to watch, but that division is still a massive log jam in the middle.
2. What will most likely be the PP? Robertson, Hintz, Pavelski/Seguin, Marchment, Heiskanen
3. Who is likely to have a breakout year or who will surprise in terms of point production? Who is advantaged by the line combinations? Marchment and Gurianov. They are likely even to be line mates, either on the top line with Hintz or second line with Seguin. They compliment each other really well, Marchment as a physical puck hound with the speed to play against top lines and strong forecheck; and Gurianov as a finisher to operate in open space but needs to play with someone that will stand up physically and create that space for him.
4. Who is likely to have a bad year in point production? Benn. DeBoer's system is going to be tough for him to adjust to, and there's a situation where he ends up playing on the 4th line. Still think he can have an impact on the roster and be a good captain, but there's not the upside for him that Seguin has to gain from a new system. I also think Peterson will have a tough time is he's stuck on the 3rd line and potentially gets pushed out by Stankoven/Bourque/Johnston.
5. How many games each goalie is likely to play? 55ish for Oettinger, 25ish for Wedgewood.

I'm banking on the fact that a team that would take the #7 pick for DeBrincat would probably not properly value Kane. Of the "big 3" I would part with Bourque. I also think the Kane market is extremely limited. Most teams have spent their money this offseason and aren't in a position to get him and make it work. Stars have the ability to bridge deal Robertson and dump either Faksa or Dobby to make it work. Only realistic teams I can see being in it would be Rangers, Canes, Stars and Avs. Stars easily have the best mix of prospects and premium picks to make it work.

Fine, replace Stragnes with Bourque, but I don't think Stars can or would do a deal without Faksa or Lindell involved for cap reasons. Faksa's contract is much easier to move.

I think a deal like this would hinge on Hintz being willing to sign an extension, but he's a top line center or wing. He at least replaces 80% of Tkachuk's productivity and adding picks and a cost controlled top 4 dman. I think its pretty fair.

Its pie in the sky I'm sure. So many other teams can offer more and pay him more. I imagine in the end it'll be Petry, but a Miro/Weegar pairing for the next 8 years would be bonkers.

That 4 year cap hit for the Suter buyout is maybe worse than the contract itself. I'd rather trade Faksa and buyout Suter next year and save ourselves 2 years of OOF.

Hadn't seen that report. The NTC from Burns though is a big kicker in this. I bumped it up to a 2nd, but really can't see it would be beyond that considering the leverage he has in the trade and the Sharks are making this deal for cap relief. Usually cap relief trades don't get much back in return.

He has a NTC and is 37 years old. The market there is incredibly small and he has to sign off on wherever he goes. I can't imagine it will be anything beyond a prospect and mid round pick considering the cap relief SJ is getting. The pick is kind of inconsequential. Make it a 2nd. I don't care. I think there's probably strong interest from only a handful of teams.

Strome is still an RFA until Thursday. Chicago floated his UFA status as chum in water for anyone to make a deal for his signing rights. Its basically advertising that anything of value buys you a week of negotiating rights. I think its worth having the ability to match to give up a 5th.
As for Burns, I think his market is much smaller than people think. For one, even with some cap retention, he's not a cheap player. He also has some input on where he is willing to go, so he is making the market for himself. You're doing SJ a favor taking him off the books and freeing up that space. A prospect and mid round pick I imagine will do the trick.

Seguin for Karlsson is interesting, but I think Dallas would not want that much cap tied up on defense. I like the Burns trade for them. Term is going to be much more reasonable than a Klingberg extension and if SJ eats some salary, I think its a good fit.

Toronto goes it Dallas re-tools for future
Thought process: Niemela is primary consideration back in the Klingberg deal. With no draft picks, Toronto has to pony up a top prospect. Getting a RD and Finnish player in return is ideal for Dallas.
Robertson is primary consideration back for Pavelski and Holtby. Pavs is playing at elite level this year, can slide right into the top line wing or 3rd line center for Toronto.
the 1st is in return for getting out of the Mrazek deal and salary offset for return players.
This deal makes Toronto markedly better for a run this year, and upgrades 3 key weaknesses on their roster.
