I agree. Enough with people making teams up and trading Howard to BUF. They don't want him. Lehner is solid and even their backup is better. Why would they want to take on Howard?
Also, not a good trade with MTL and there is a 0% chance NYI take that trade. Helm could be put on waivers right now and no team would claim him with that awful contract Holland just gave him.

And trading him to Dallas is any more realistic? Also isn't the whole point of this to "make teams up?"

I'd rather have what we have than Fowler. Even Johnson doesn't rate very well.

yes and no. Jurco has top6 skill. He doesn't get top6 minutes. He's still a "prospect" just like McCabe is still a "prospect." Ceiling? I think McCabe has a higher ceiling. Which is why I put a 1st and Russo in the trade from Detroit rather than just Russo.

Just as rare as in-division trades are...even trades are even more rare.
Mrazek > Lehner
Nyquist < Reinhart
Green > Franson
McCabe = Jurco
Russo, 1st, 4th > 2nd. 3rd
The Wings won't see the benefit of this trade this season, but next year Larkin or Reinhart will be the 1C with Mantha and the other on their wing.
If next year's lines looked anything like this:
Reinhart - Larkin - Mantha
Zetterberg - Neilsen - Tatar
Bertuzzi/Sadowy - Athanasiou - Frk/Svechnikov
Abdelkader - Helm - Glendening
I'd say that the forwards would be a pretty good group.

Edit: Reinhart has also played minimally at center to this point (because Oreilly and Eichel are here) so he may have a adjustment period.

But now it's a rumor ;) I ran it the other way. Buffalo would have about $1.8M in cap space left over.
Both Larkin and Reinhart could see time at Center in this scenario. Zetterberg is paired with Reinhart to give him some relief if he's struggling at the pivot

Detroit's Counter to Buffalo's Trade Request

Quoting: redw1n9s

No. Thanks.

Reinhart | Nyquist - http://public.tableau.com/shared/HW7NHF774?:display_count=yes
Bogosian | Green - http://public.tableau.com/shared/3T2K5BGYR?:display_count=yes
Two things...Red Wings are over paying according to the Own The Puck Hero stats, but Reinhart is a 1C talent and only 20. Bogosian is less talented offensively, but much better all around and is 4 years younger than Green. If the Wings need to upgrade the blue line, it's in all around game, not in one dimensional defensemen. So you take a hit on the offensive side by moving from Green to Bogosian, but get some of it back by adding Sproul and benching Ericsson. Adding to Smith's minutes should grow his offensive numbers. Lowering Kronwall's minutes should also keep him healthier there-by increasing his production both offensively and defensively. Playing DeKeyser with a better all-around defenseman should help his game too. He's doesn't have to be the best at either end of the ice. Some plays, he'll jump into the rush, other times he'll stay back in protection (to use a football term). 20+ goal scorer on the blue line? No. But I don't think Green was going to get back to that anyways. But I could see Smith with 10-15 and Sproul, Kronwall, DeKeyser with 8-12, and Bogosian with 6-10. Just on the low end, if they all put up that and 4 from Marchenko, that's 44 goals. 12 more than last season. A deeper forward rotation, which adding Reinhart helps, will give a more balanced attack, generating more offense from the blue line. Additionally, Smith, Sproul and Bogosian are better skaters than Quincey, Ericsson, and Green; also leading to more offensive generation.

I watch plenty of hockey. Dougie Hamilton is a very good defenseman and yes, he'd be #1 for the Wings if they made that trade. If I'm moving Nyquist, Mantha, and a 1st, I want a franchise changing defenseman. Hamilton is not a franchise changer like Karlsson, Doughty, or Keith. He hasn't had a single Norris vote. Only gets 20 TOI and his Fenwick rating is average. Brendan Smith had a way better fenwick than Hamilton and a better corsi score. Mike Green even had a better Corsi and Fenwick in a similar TOI.

You will probably have to move either Nyquist or Tatar as part of a trade for Fowler,Shattenkirk, etc. i'd take my chances keeping Tatar and trading Nyquist before his NMC clause kicks in next season. Smith doesn't impress me at all. Ever since Chara toyed with him in the playoffs a few seasons ago he has been next to useless. If I thought the Wings could dump Ericsson instead I'd be all for it but he isn't going anywhere.
Signing DeKeyser and Mrazek will cost between 4 and 5 mil per season. Just split the difference at 4.5 for 4-5 years and they will look like bargains.

I don't mind moving someone. Just don't want Fowler. DeKeyser and Smith are both better than he is.
