Detroit Red Wings signed Jimmy Howard (1 Year / $5,100,000 AAV)
More appropriate cap hit than what he is now. Considering the Wings don't really have any prospects that are contending for the crease this signing is fine

Good on him, played against him in high school and he DESTROYED us. Happy to see him breaking in

Nashville Predators signed Juuse Saros (3 Years / $1,500,000 AAV)

Dave Pollie is a freaking miracle worker.
He gets Ryan Ellis 5yrs @ 2.5
Mattais Ekhom 7yrs @ 3.75
now this?
How is he not "gm of the year" every year?</div></div>
Agreed! I saw the AAV and immediately thought it was a one year deal where Saros was betting on having a great year to drive up price. To get him for three! WOW!

Undoing Hollands cap management

Honesty i like Howard but how much better is he than what they have already. Maybe at the trade deadline or if a contender looses there starter to injury early on we get an opportunity to move him.</div></div>
Fair enough, I think Howard is a better goalie than Mrazek, we just never play well in front of him (which obviously harms his trade value). This could end up being more of a deadline scenario, you're right

Detroit Red Wings signed Anthony Mantha (2 Years / $3,300,000 AAV)
Generally agree, great AAV, only point of concern would be the two year term. The short bridge will mean Mantha will be getting a big pay day sooner when he has arbitration rights (that would be my guess as to why the price is so team friendly). Wings won't be cup contenders in these two years to take advantage of the lower price. Still definitely happy to get him signed and have money to get Larkin signed too

Personally I'd be shocked if he got 5. I thought he was currently considered overpaid at 4, so I thought two was more reasonable. I could see some team offering 3.

Pay the Price: Double down on winning now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>I don't think this puts MTL over the top. You forgot to add Zadina to your RW. That will make it look better but I don't think the depth is there on this team to make a run. You do have $5 mil in cap space left though (it is going up to $80 mil)</div></div>
Oh yeah I completely forgot to factor in the draft pick! With the extra money, be it 3, 5 or whatever would you add scoring, d, something else? I might lean toward a scoring winger -I think Spoul could surprise people; I really liked him in Detroit, and he adds some mobility too

I also think you presented trades that both MIN and PIT would do, very good job. BTW with the core you are keeping I think Tavares will think of this as a playoff team with a chance to go far into the playoffs.</div></div>
Thanks! Definitely taking some gambles on payers, but I think that hopefully everyone will be playing in better positions depth wise -especially at center!

Totally agree that money isn't the issue. Which moves do you think are missing? Personally I'm still nervous on missing some scoring and D mobility. This roster is definitely banking on a couple players regaining some of their old touch, or youngsters having a breakout year : (

Fair point, I'm not convinced that we would get into the top 5 -honestly was really contemplating a 2nd rounder instead, but thought Montreal wouldn't go for it. I think Galchenyuk is a gamble but still has some good upside! What do you think of the Pickard signing? -think he could still make it?
