MTL Side of EDM Trade
I think you can get a deal done without adding the burden of the James Neal contract. I also see it very unlikely EDM deals out their 2020 first rounder in Holloway and a 2021 1st rounder consdeirng how few assets and future draft picks they have.
I've thought about an Allen for Koskinen + swap as well. Jake Allen has a great deal at $2.87M for next 2 years, and MTL would probably lose him to Seattle anyways. Could also see EDM retain $1.5M off Koskinen (cost of his buyout)- I'm sure he could be a decent backup to Price. Drouin's value has definitely gone down, but still think he has some good years to go in this league, especially in a EDM top 6.
If Klefbom is healthy (fingers crossed shoulder is okay), would you consider:
MTL trades: Drouin $5.5Mx2 + Allen $2.875Mx2 + one of Chiarot $3.5Mx1 or Edmundson $3.5Mx3
EDM trades: Koskinen $4.5Mx1, Klefbom $4.167Mx2, Raphael Lavoie ELC

I assume he'll go back as an OA- not sure why NJD didn't sign him. Had a nice statistical progression each year since being drafted, solid defensively as well.

Logan Couture played there all 4 years and was the Captain. Also look for Taylor Graovac, think he's with Minny or Vancouver right now.

addressing needs in the offseason
Is there any chance Philly elects to protect JVR over Voracek? Also, would Seattle even want JVR or Voracek's contracts without any sweetners?
They're the same age, JVR's deal goes $7M to 2023, Voracek's deal goes $8.25M to 2024. JVR underperformed last year and is a streaky player, but his contract is clearly more team-friendly than Voracek's looking toward to the future. He's had a hot start, and Voracek's play has been average ( no expert but a personal take on the couple games I've watched this year). I know Voracek has been a major part of the Flyer's core for a while now, and his value to the team is more than on-ice but if JVR keeps this up would you rather have the extra $1.25M in space and $7M off the books a year earlier? Flyers have some big contracts expiring in the next couple years including Myers and Lindblom the same year as JVR comes off.

Logan Brown
I like the L. Brown to Minny (T6 centre) and Dumba to Ottawa (finally a partner for Chabot). Zaitisev is having a strangely good start to the season, however the last 3 seasons I'm sure Leafs and Sens fans can agree he simply sucked from an on-ice perspective, in addition to his large contract. Only way I can see this working for a player like Dumba, is Zaitisev continuing this unexplained brilliance this season, and Guerin feeling the pressure come the expansion draft. Ottawa would still be needing to add more value with another solid prospect and some picks IMO

Sens Are Back
Looks good to me... makes me question the Stepan trade even more. Would have loved to see Colin White get that top 6 opportunity instead of giving up a 2nd rounder for 30yo declining UFA. In addition to one of Logan Brown or Balcers getting a shot. I also thought Galchenyuk should get a top 9 spot but not much more moving around you can do. Maybe throw Tierney down to 4th and go AG-CW-CB on the 3rd?
Too bad there's no room for Nick Paul in the B6, thought he had a great coming out year and deserved that new deal.

Blues using cap space from Steens LTIRetirement
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheEarthmaster</b></div><div>Agree wholeheartedly on some of the long-term singings being questionable. I'm not sure how much you can really say guys who are in their mid twenties like Sanford and Sundqvist are still "developing"- at this point they most likely are who they are- but sure there's a lot of young talent on this team with potential. Even so, those guys aren't surefire even in the "prospect/young player" sense that guys like Dunn or Thomas are. I don't see any of those guys except maybe Kyrou being a top six forward in the future. I don't want to miss out on the best years that Tarasenko, Krug, O'Reilly, even Perron have left because we were waiting on guys who may or may not develop into something more. I'd rather spend (minimal) assets and get the help now, even if we've got some old guys on the team (as you point out- we're already screwed in that department, what's one more?)</div></div>
Agreed, Steen wasn't even playing top 9 minutes no desperate need to replace him. I know not all of them are prospects but it's a deep forward group, and I think some could impress if given a legitimate chance higher in the lineup. I just feel Armstrong's been a little trigger friendly with making big deals, and worried it will impede the team's ability to stay relevant and keep their window open when you could have talent available internally.

Blues using cap space from Steens LTIRetirement
Huge respect to Steen, what a pro.
Not a fan of acquiring Marchessault. You just dodged a bullet with Steen going on LTIR so you can now sign your top young LHD. Focus o getting deals for Schwartz (if you wanna keep him) and Thomas before even considering adding anyone else in the mix. Armstrong has made some questionable veteran signings in last 18 months that may end up being a Steen LTIRetirment or buyout all over again (Schenn till 37, Faulk till 35, Krug till 36, Scandella till 34). I'd be very cautious bringing in Marchessault till he's 34. Bozak will walk or take a paycut at end of year . You still have guys like Sundqvist, Kyrou, Barbashev, Kostin, Sanford still developing- see where you're at in a year with them IMO.

Marner trade that makes toronto scary
I like the trade. I love Marner but that contract is a burden with their current cap situation and will likely cost them Hyman, Freddy or even Rielly in a couple years. Trading Marner for a decent return + freeing cap space is ideal. You already pay Matthews + Tavares big cash to produce big points, Nylander's deal is very fair- Marner should/would be the one to go.

Surprised, but not surprised Steen will be out to start season giving STL some cap space. I wonder if getting Hoffman to a 2 year deal could lower his desired AAV, and allow them to not resign and overspend on Schwartz long term (like they did with Schenn).

I can agree with your Krug point- maybe move him down a tier. Hughes made the game look easy and was a play driver at 21, and I assume he'll just keep getting better. We'll see more after this year. Carlson's a great player and still has a good window to win- came 2nd for Norris last year, and top 5 the previous two. Driving offense isn't the hallmark of his game; he only put up over 50 points once before age 27, and has benefitted from playing with a very strong offensive team.

Maybe consider the trade when Valimaaki plays a full season and you know what you have. He's a great D but only 21 and didn't play a single hockey game last season. He could probably replace Hanifin's role in next year or two. When Giordano declines, or retires (he's 37) you need a guy to be 100% ready to fill in or the whole ship goes down without him IMO.

Trade makes a lot more sense for Boston than Calgary. This would deplete Calgary's left side, Kylington isn't ready for top 4 and they need to look for life after Giordano. Calgary already has two strong defensive workhorses on their right side, why need a 3rd? Carlo is a great player, but I still gotta feeling Hanifin hasn't met anywhere close to his ceiling in the NHL.

He doesn't have a point per game season yet or even a 35 goal pace. Give him some time before you call him a top 10 player, he'll be there eventually most likely but he's honestly probably the worst in that tier at this time (aside from PLD and Larkin).
Larkin should not be in that tier, he's not even as good as half the people in the tier below him. Same for PLD. I'd bump them down a tier (probably two for Larkin).
I'd bump Crosby up to tier 1, he's still the most dominant player on the ice at both ends whenever he's healthy.</div></div>
Agreed about Larkin- I probably overvauled him. I'm a big PLD fan, he's a beast and he runs that CBJ offense

Sergachev
I really like the idea of Boston acquiring a high-end LHD to shelter Grzelyck in that 2nd pair role. Sergachevs a good guy to target- $6.25x5 is good (maybe rich in this market)- iI believe 4 would walk him directly into UFA so his AAV would likely drop if Boston loses that UFA year. I would use the Provorov contract as a comparable, although Provorov was signed before COVID and the implementation of a flat cap- he got $6.75x6. I like the backloaded 3 year bridge deals signed by Werenski ($5M) and McAvoy ($4.9) but that would make Sergs expiry year the same as Pasta's and who will get PAID.

So this offseason isnt going as planned huh
Gonna be tough. I think best option could be to move out Leddy, but they'd probably have to take someone's cap hit back.
I'm a Sens fan and I will love Pageau until the day I die but I questioned the move for NYI right away.
- Trading a 2020 1st + 2nd which could be used in a cap dump for a 3C
- Knowing Barzal will need to get paid $7M+, but still sign Pageau $5Mx6 while having a really good 2C in Nelson and a good 3b/4 in Cizikas.
- Since Barzal won Calder in 2018, he's signed Lee ($7M till 36), Nelson ($6M till 34), Pageau ($5M till 34), Eberle ($5.5M till 34), Komarov ($3M till 35) and Bailey was signed Feb 2018 ($5M till 34).
