Trade with CAL - MTL in October
That's way too much for a guy on an expiring contract who doesn't fill a need (Flames already have Gaudreau/Tkachuk as LW1 and LW2, Pacioretty isn't a third liner).

Pacioretty Trade
That's way, way too much to give up for Pacioretty on an expiring deal. I'd rather have the centre depth with Brassard, especially if it's going to cost ZAR, a 1st and a 3rd on top of him.

Hard no. Letang is better than Petry. Sprong is already a good looking 2nd round pick who has been developing for 3 years, and Pittsburgh's window is now. Pacioretty is better than Brassard, but not by anywhere near enough to offset the other two parts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>Hextall is not going to rush what he is building. You stated exactly why we do not need Karlsson though, because we have Ghost. Plus Provy and Sanheim can both good offensively. If the Flyers are going to trade for a D man it is going to be a steady defender and one where we don't give up 5 young assets.</div></div>
I get where you're coming from, but saying you don't need Karlsson because you have Ghost is like saying you don't need Crosby because you have Couturier. Not rushing it is fine when you don't have $27.5M tied up in top 6 forwards who are going to be 29 or older by the start of the season. 3 years from now, the odds say they're not key contributors. There isn't a whole lot coming behind them in terms of forward prospects - Frost looks good, but not much else is there. The chance to win is when the windows of Provorov/Ghost coincide with Giroux/Voracek/JVR. If you aren't going to go for it now, Giroux and Voracek should be traded to someone who will IMO.

Flyers EK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>Myers is being groomed to be a top pairing shut down guy...Karlsson isn't that. Sanheim has very high upside and is perfect on our 2nd pairing. Ghost is a purely offensive D man that can put up numbers close to Karlsson. We all know what Provy is. Karlsson is just too expensive for what he would bring to this team, which IMO is slightly more offense, maybe?</div></div>
That's fair, but at the same time, Karlsson is the best offensive defenseman of this generation, and probably the 2nd or 3rd best ever behind Orr and maybe Coffey. Sanheim and Myers have upside, but nothing proven yet. And Karlsson isn't bad defensively either. You could easily roll a Provorov-Karlsson pairing, followed by a Ghost-whoever defensive.
Maybe you try to sell Hagg instead of Myers and have him anchor Ghost?
Just a thought that the Flyers are in a bit of a strange spot with the young guys like Provorov/Ghost/Patrick/Konecny, while also having the aging part of the core with Giroux/Voracek/Simmonds/JVR, and that their best chance to win is the next 2-3 years. Karlsson massively helps that goal.

As a Pens fan, I hate it, but Philly makes a ton of sense as a potential landing spot for Karlsson. People freaking out about Sanheim and Myers like a D core of Provorov, Karlsson, and Gostisbehere is a big problem...

Skinner would be pretty cool, and Carolina is in a really weird spot so perhaps they could be torched in a deal.</div></div>
I could see a potential Skinner UFA signing if they can get Backes' contract moved then.

Karlsson to TBL, Johnson to Colorado
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DictatotTots427</b></div><div>Johnson is an above average 2nd line centre, I think 1st + B prospect is actually a really good deal for Colorado if you look at other comparable players and their returns.
Simmonds and Stralman are both pending UFAs with pretty similar value. I only added Laughton because defenseman are inherently more valuable than wingers.
Thanks for the feedback!</div></div>
I would say Timmins is more of an A- than a B, and Tyler Johnson had one season as an above average 2nd line centre, and then followed it up with three years of average or below average, so I would disagree on still calling him an above average 2nd line centre.

I think the Karlsson trade is pretty reasonable, but I'm not sure if Colorado does that deal for Johnson. I don't think Stralman gets you Simmonds+.

I think the framework is there for a pretty solid deal that could help all sides. I'm not sure that Tampa would want to give up Point, Palat, and a 1st (obviously dumping Callahan is a good thing), but it's close. Good idea.

The first two trades are fine, but there's no reason to move Frolik for nothing and sit with over $9M of cap space. That essentially destroys the depth they just worked hard to rebuild. If you have to move him next summer to resign Tkachuk, fine, but it just doesn't make sense right now.

Karlsson Offer Bandwagon
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Honestly don’t think your close on value. He is the best defenceman in the entire league, your getting him with a new contract and your really only giving up Werenski. Foligno is old and can still play but isn’t exactly a key piece, the first in 2020 will be a late first, and the second is probably in the 60s. So as good as Werenski is, e isn’t a top 10 center in the league, he also isn’t as elite as Ottawa would be looking for to be really the only valuable piece in the trade.</div></div>
I think you're thinking of Wennberg. Werenski is an already really good defenseman (probably top 25 in the league), with upside to be a top 5 Dman in the league in the next 2-3 years. If Ottawa is looking for more than that, it's never going to happen.

They shouldn't get a deal they like, but someone will offer better than this package. Personally, if I was Ottawa, I would do it straight up for their own pick, but that would look bad publicly. A near guaranteed top 5 pick is the best they're going to do for a year of Karlsson, dealing from a position of weakness where everyone knows they have to trade him IMO.
