Wyatt Johnston and Dallandrea for Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>regardless of the exact value of the trade, surely you have to recognize that “this team that has consistently being outperforming the Leafs in playoffs and is currently in the WCF needs a boost. so they should swap players with the team that has made it past the 1st round a single time since 2004. the well-performing playoff team trying to become more like the underperforming playoff team will certainly make the well-performing team even better” is a bit silly. Marner is a guy that gets you to playoffs, and no further. playoff contender teams aren’t gonna tear up any of their core for him</div></div>
I agree with a lot that you are saying here, although I'm sure Marner could help many teams regardless of his playoff woes but like you said Dallas is doing just fine with their current core.
The only reason for them to consider making a trade for Marner is if they miss the playoffs next year and he's available.

Massive rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>Hellebuyck would definitely need to come with a reasonable extension for that to be worth it for the Sens, especially since it'd 100% mean losing DeBrincat. with that in mind, I assume that the Jets would prefer to get picks/assets rather than DeBrincat himself? (not saying it'd be one for one, just as a general concept)</div></div>
Yeah if WPG decides to towards the direction of a retool, DeBrincat is not much use for them.
If I had to guess what happens with him, he either goes to Detroit or St. Louis. Reportedly both of them would be interested in his services, and both have assets to give up in return for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>that's a whole lot to commit to multiple years of a goalie ho was not particularly good this season. not many goalies that I'd trade that package for, Markstrom ain't one of them</div></div>
Yeah I agree. The original idea came from a discussion with a Sens fan regarding their goaltending. I think if the Flames are moving a goalie, it's going to be Vladar and his more friendly 2.2m/2 year deal.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>what would it take for Ottawa to get Burakovsky with Seattle's 1st rounder instead? or Gourde being the player in the deal?</div></div>
I'd think DeBrincat + 3rd for Burakovsky +'23 1st + some minor asset with the valuation of a 4th to a 6th rounder would be fair.

What does he get
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>there's less and less space for him on Ottawa's blueline, especially with Branny solidifying himself as a good full-timer and Dorion saying that JBD's spot is his to lose. lots of talent but has already been passed up on the depth chart by Kleven. Guenette has done well in the AHL and Donovan is there now too. and there's still other guys overseas and in junior. good player with good talent but the spot on the Sens roster just isn't really there</div></div>
That's fair, I just don't know what assets Ottowa would be interested in from the Ducks that we would be willing to move for Lassi. He seems like a bit of a project, which doesn't scare us off the idea, but we're also not inclined to move anything premium for him either.

Even if Debrincat didn’t want to sign, the Sens will not move him for a deal that won’t get them closer to the playoffs. A late 1st and a bottom 6F roster player or prospect isn’t something that’s going to make the Sens better

Caps Splash - Sens fans thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>I don't think any reasonable Sens fan would argue with you in terms of trade value here, but if they have to move DeBrincat, I think it'll have to be for a "hockey trade" where they get a good, young NHL RHD in return. Sens really can't afford to just take a step back in their rebuild at this stage</div></div>
Ah got it - yeah the Caps might not have the pieces the Sens need then
The Caps have Iorio, who is 20 and shaping up to be a top 4 puck-moving RHD. He has dominated in AHL this year and should crack the NHL roster next year. But I would assume he is almost untouchable due to the Caps having really no one else in the near-term pipeline for RHD.

pushing for players

He was obviously branded as an offensive dman, but hasn't put up the points in the NHL. he's actually transitioned incredibly well into a strong defensive game despite his size, and is still a good transition puck mover. never really gets power play time though, behind Chabot and Sanderson. reality is that he's worth more to the Sens as a puck-mover who can defend in small minutes on the 3rd pairing, then any team will be willing to give up to get him.</div></div>
Nice breakdown, thanks

Nothing in it for Ottawa, I'll pass.
Let's say Motte is worth a 3rd, trading Brannstrom who has been decent and still has potential for a worse player and a 6th makes no sense.

Errr what? You seem to be taking this oddly personally. Landeskog is expected back late this season. If that date gets pushed and they play with LTIR space, the most notable comparisons are Kucherov and Kane. It’s reality and isn’t a big deal, no need to be a baby.

It's not that the Sens want to move him, but it's a matter of his QO being 9M, and then being able to walk the year after that. So if he gives any indication of wanting out, the Sens need to be willing to move on and try to move him for some defensive help. basically just "you'd rather keep him, but understand that it might not happen"</div></div>
Crazy how he's not been on a playoff team yet. I'm a big fan of his.

I like Thomson a lot, so I could be overvaluing him. To me, Fabbro is worth a late first, so a good 2nd and decent prospect are worth around that value. I should add that the entire Preds right side has underperformed, not just Fabbro alone.

Horrendous deal for Ottawa. Nate Schmidt's deal is brutal. Nearly 6mil for 3 seasons. He's better than Zaitsev, but that isn't much of a bar at all. He's bad defensively, and puts up points without driving offense. Nate Schmidt really puts the <strong>mid</strong> in Sch<strong>mid</strong>t.

Draft Week Distraction
Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t really understand the appeal of Josh Anderson. He’s a big dude who plays physically, but hasn’t scored more than 20 goals in a season other than once, and has a career high of 47 points like 4 years ago. He’s slightly more than a 0.5 point/game player with a 5.5 million dollar contract for a long time. Feels like the sens would be better off with the 7th OA pick, no? That Anderson contract would still be around when they need to give a huge pay raise to Stutzle, Sanderson, and bridge prospects picked in the next two years. Picking high now means they can surround Norris, Stutzle, Sanderson, and Chabot with cheap, high end talent when they all have big contracts.
I’m a leafs fan and don’t super remember anything Anderson did in the playoffs other than hit. It seems like he’s overpaid by 1.5-2 million until 2027, it’d be a big bet that he figures out something after being in the league for 7 years. I don’t watch the Canadiens regularly, though, so let me know if I’m off.
