BIGGER THAN THE GRETZKY TRAIE
Right now and approximately the last 2 decades, the problem isnt to get draft pick, its in the team building that the Oilers need to work on. Honestly, they seem far from a contender team, but realistically they are not that far. Dont sell everything, keep working on the problems, everyone knows what is the major issue, they will need to buckle up and pay the price to fill the gap between the two pipes

Low cost option - center from the ufa pool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>Bozak is still available but doesn't look in good shape.
My guess is Bergy tries to trade Drouin for a center. If he cant, they'll try to go with Evans-Perreault - Paquette on the bottom 6 until TDL and then add a guy like Tierney..</div></div>
At this point Drouin has little value on the market from what mtl think his value is at. The best for him and the team is to play at least 15-20 games, get a few minutes on the pp and get his value up. If he want out of mtl, team need to see value because he is making 5.5 and he came back from a mystery injury. I dont think its like doing an x-ray to see if its heal, he need to prove a little bit of durability first or prove himself. A center that had experience as a second center would work in the mod 30’ would work. Mtl has the center in place, they just need a bigger guy (over 6’1”) with experience to support the 3 in place. Bringing staal back, wouldnt be a bad idea, if he want to comeback

Yep, might not be worth 2.8mil and isle probably want him back.
A player like this with a different name would work as well. Money wise, MTL will need to overpay a little to have someone coming in town to play and even if its not the right amount, you got the point. To make a player wanted to play in mtl compare lets say to new york (for a year or two), well money will impact on the player decision

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_Hfx10</b></div><div>Berge and Milano have to come clean to the fans and admit that in order to take the next step of the future some tough choices need to be made. I do not see it being smart to extend Petry and Tatar into their 30’s we need to continue to get younger. Moving the two of them adds probably 4 potentially valuable pieces to the future. Make sure you get a solid RHD prospect who is a season or two away and we’re in good shape. Just tell the fans we’re working towards and consistent playoff team and makes some good moves and everything will be alright.</div></div>
I am not sure if he is willing to take that avenue (Moving Tatar and Petry)

Boston did well and kept doing well. There was a rough patch there too, but nothing like 4 year out of 5 out of the playoff, with the next couple years being neither positive or negative outlook
When a player like kovalchuk spent time at home sitting because no team want to give him a contract, then suddenly he go to MTL and he is a star in that market, I think It show how fragile is the team structure.

MTL TRADES FOR 1 OVERALL
Overpayment would be needed, nothing is impossible (Lindros). If I was DET, I would ask the next 4 years first round, MTL A prospect D (Romanov), A prospect C (Suzuki) and A prospect G (Primeau) and maybe a few players or picks or both. If not, go pound some sand. That is probably why this is unlikely to happen as Bergevin is a bit frugal with trades.

Mete/Fleury
Best chance to add value to Kovalchuck if MTL decide to trade him

Draft is MTL and they did not make the playoff 3 out of 4, possibly 4 out of 5 years. If I was NJ, for the hometown boy, MTL would need an over-payment premium. I would ask more (Romanov + 1st round 2021 (and possibly 2022 ))

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>What about this. If your Ottawa and have 2 and 3, would you trade both to Detroit for #1 lafreniere?</div></div>
Not a Sens fan, but in IMO they should collect talent by the shovel. So I think they should keep 2 x top 10 instead of only the 1st. I am sure with their history of the 1OVA in 1993 Alexandre Daigle, they should keep 2 x top 10 base on past experience. Not that it will happen against in the history of the franchise or with Lafreniere, but personally I would be careful if I was them. On that year, 2 pick in the TOP 10 would not have been horrible either. Also having 2 potential pick in the Top 10 is a rare thing theses days, Vancouver did well with the Sedins

Eakin seem to be the player that get the most often traded from other Vegas GM team, that why I took that salary to take back. Reaves work too, but then, I would assume Carrier will be staying
Eakin 3,85 mil / Petry 3.5 mil (2 mil retained). Keep Eakin if you like, but you need a bit of cap relief to accept a trad, current cap is 291k
2021 2nd and 3rd, it's almost a pick swap, it will be a few position difference, that could equal Kovy value (if he keep his MTL production and commitment )
For the rest, I just based on Muzzin trade to TOR last year, it seem lower value that Muzzin trade. Similar player with similar stats, I think vegas should not trade prospect at this point as the team higher salary will age at some point.

If we’re trading our 1st and JP it’s for a player with 3+ years left or someone who will be an RFA when their contract ends. Holland already said he wants a young player to help the team long term.</div></div>
At 4mil for this year and next year, that package will draw attention from others team. Pool party don't take ammunition away from the team to go further in the playoff this year. JP don't have a higher value now than 4 months ago, change him for something else if needed, but I think it's a cheaper price right. Otherwise EDM would have trying to keep him close to the team or in the team
In the playoff or prior, if McDavid or Draisaitl get injured, it reduce greatly the team to produce offence. Most players on that team benefits from those two guys.

Caufield Debrincat Gaudreau
His potential depend on his development and line mates. He is small, so he is more vulnerable to injuries and concussion. I don't wish him to be injured or a concussion
I would take the time needed to build him into a Gallagher 2.0 with skill if I was MTL GM, then is potential might be higher and for a longer period. He is probably work on adding muscles mass in the gym right now, the points on the ice are secondary (he is drafted). He need to prepare physically, they know already he can score goal.
Then when he is ready and played 1 full season (At least), we can compare Caufield potential to top NHL players

Can Byfield/Lafreniere be compare to previous years draft No 1-2 where a center and winger are in the race for No.1? Most of time, you are right, the center are more in demand as they can can be place on the wings.
Ovy / Malkin / Hall Seguin / Mathew Laine / Hughes Kakko
Either way, it seem to be a very good draft year and most likely, No. 1 and 2 will have a ceiling of superstar player

Journalist podcast suggesting to get Lafreniere
This could be a home run for many team IF Lafreniere development is on the same path as others similar players. Can he take it and become that player ? What ever your opinion is Lafreniere or Byfield, they are projected to be good. Yeah, we could also see a nail yakupov 2.0
In that package, value need to be offered for that type of player. Suzuki is going good right now, but if he cool down and someone else (young player) is better, the other team will ask for that player. Primeau is the player that make it or break it for me, I think MTL should keep that player to replace Price, he is growing in value since his selection. Romanov is projected to be a good player.
Defense will be the major area to be work on if something like that happen, UFA ? KK could end up with Lafreniere and Caufield , or place any center that can skate with two winger. 2021 MTL UFA will be a difficult off season (Gallagher, Tatar, Danault, Petry, Armia)
If Lafreniere potential end up lower than expected, then it could mean a lost decade ahead. If he fulfill the expectation then MTL has a real weapon for every game night.
1st round pick by MTL, since 2000. Based on past history, I would go for it and trade 4 x 1st. Carey Price changed the franchise (All time win and game played for MTL franchise), why not starting the next decade with a new franchise player

I Dont think as many people outside Quebec are sold on that seeing him as more of a Steven Stamkos in his style of play
Dont get me wrong that's still good but it isnt good enough to give up anything more then Danault , our 1st and a 2nd .
Thats still a high value but its within reason based on the realization that the last Canadian Junior star to jump from junior to the NHL to put up record numbers was Dale Hawerchuk putting up 180+ points his last year junior followed by 100+ points his first year in the NHL . Lefreniere is no Hawerchuk incase that's where you thought i was going with this , i was just trying to point out its almost 40 years ago since it happened last .</div></div>
I just think it's a valid option that the MTL GM should look at closer to the draft and depending who will have the 1st overall. Either way, I am ok with the way they are building up the team or to go for the show at the draft.
Again, it depend who get the 1st.
