Andrei Svechnikov
Guhle is good, maybe even great - he would realistically be our #3 until Slavin starts to slow down, unless Nikishin lives up to his potential in which case Guhle would be behind him. I know he *can* play RD, but Rod does not like defensemen playing their off side, and I can't see the front office trading Svechnikov to break that rule.
Ultimately, as has been said multiple times, the Habs and Canes are not good trade partners, but there are very very few players that Waddell would trade Svechnikov for and none of them are on Montreal.

KK To The Pens And A Jarry Trade
I seriously doubt the Canes will being paying to dump KK. They can re-sign everyone they need with him still on the team, and if they traded him they would need to fill his spot down the middle anyway.
Worst case scenario they buy him out as U25 buyouts are cheaper against the cap, but I still think that is unlikely to happen.

Anaheim
Welcome to CapFriendly. Sometimes, it's not too friendly.
You should have used the 2024-2025 skeleton to construct next season's team. Silfverberg, Carrick and Hagg are on expiring contracts.
Viktor Arvidsson and Matt Roy will sign new contracts for quite a bit more than those figures, especially in term. Cutter Gauthier and Ivan Demidov will get the maximum amount possible for an ELC, but Demidov won't be an Anaheim draftee.
Pat Verbeek wouldn't trade Frankie Vatrano for less than Cuylle and a second, but I don't think that Cuylle is a fit at all. Anaheim doesn't need middle-6 or bottom-6 forwards, so no interest in Chmelevski, Foegele, Greenway, or retreading Ritchie and Steel. Similarly, no interest in Newpower (Helleson, Luneau and Warren are ahead of him even if the Ducks don't draft Levshunov or Parekh), Zadorov (LhD) or Graves (ditto) or bringing Koekkok and Edler out of retirement.
I cannot imagine Anaheim trading John Gibson as the team's fortunes are turning upwards.

-meier had team control leading to term (38.2 mill for the 5 years of Meier after trade vs 41 mill for the 5 years of Tkachuk)
-fair but the development curve plateaus around 24 so he’s likely at/around his peak level
-not particularly meaningful
-Meier is also very physical
-anecdotal

-not particularly meaningful
-again not an actual hockey skill and most of his fights are **** stirring not sticking up for anyone
-Meier had virtually identical assist production before the trade
-anecdotal
-so does Meier
-Meier had better goal production numbers
Again, the only thing is age and fights.
Meier had identical if not better production, better defensive metrics, physicality, and a similar contractual cost.

From Sportsnet
Not sensitive, just being honest. Canes roster doesn’t have space for a forward who is offense only. They already have a roster of 23, and cap space to go big game hunting. Why waste this cap and roster space on someone who would play less than 10 mins a game.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooster</b></div><div>From my limited interactions on ACGM, I must say Carolina has one of the most sensitive fan bases. This trade is admittedly an incredibly bland one for the Canes, and one that comes with a footnote to trade Kubalik to any contender looking for depth. Yet it still invoked a level of disdain from the fan base. It’s quite fascinating to observe.
If and when Ottawa is back in its contending years, this is the exact type of trade I’d hope our GM would pursue. A zero risk trade for a throw away pick, in exchange for a serviceable and experienced forward who’s also shown he can score in the league.
Anyway, best of luck with the playoffs. I like the Canes and hope they do well.</div></div>

Canes Fans - Is he on the table
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Necas isn’t likely to be on table until the offseason. I think he gets moved in the offseason, but it would be for a forward upgrade, someone along the lines of JEEk or Marner would be what a package centered around Necas would be looking for. In the Sharks case, I don’t see them being willing to retain on Hertl, and I would imagine the Canes probably would want Hertl with 25-50% retained. Hertl with x amount retained and Ferraro for Necas and something else might be workable, but the Sharks don’t really have anything other than Hertl and Ferraro that would even really interest the Canes, and no single asset that would justify moving Necas.</div></div>
Got it was just curious, I don’t really see the sharks finding that worth it, they only thing of value they would have to give our picks or prospects, but both sides would most likely say no in that scenario

Tarasenko to the Other Team Who Wanted Him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Exotic_Butter</b></div><div>While I agree with this analysis of the Canes recent refusal to move first round picks the Canes also haven't seen any thing past the conference finals since 2006. Maybe it's time to change your ways for success. If what you have done at the deadline the past few years isn't enough to get you over the hump why keep that mentality.</div></div>
This is a silly argument for multiple reasons, but mainly: The teams that spent multiple first last season (Boston and Toronto) got beat by the same team that beat the Canes. The Rangers also spent a first, and didn't make it out of the first round. The two teams in the SCF? Neither spent more than a 3rd (in Florida's case, they didn't spend at all at the TDL).
It's also silly because while this core of players hasn't made it past the ECF in their two trips there (I hate the whole "since 2006" thing, as if the team didn't go a decade of missing the playoffs with multiple teams), they have still made it twice! And have made the playoffs multiple every years since they first got back in 2019.
Finally, if you are going to spend a 1st on a rental, it really ought to be for a strong need (IMO). Currently the Canes biggest need is Goalie, with an upgrade at 2C being the second biggest. That could all change with injury or whatnot in the next month and a half, but as it stands Tarasenko just isn't that big of a need to spend a first on.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kongol</b></div><div>Honestly, my approach here is the Canes desperation to find a goalie. I figured with their Defense actually being decently good, Sammy might actually play better when there's less high scoring chances to face him. It's a one year deal so they're not tied down with him, and they get Bert and his style to help in the playoffs. Abruzzee is a decent Centre prospect. Will he oan out to be another KK, perhaps not but the combination of all the pieces I thought would warrant a conversation and a basis to a potential deal.</div></div>
Since coming back up, Raanta is 3-1-1 with a .910 sv%. Over his last 8, Kochetkov is .918 sv%, and Andersen was medically cleared before Christmas. You would have to pay the Canes to take on that contract.
I like Abruzzesse, but he's behind guys like Vasili Ponomarev, Ryan Suzuki, and even Bradley Nadeau at C. That's without considering how hot Jack Drury has been recently. He'd never get the shot in Carolina.
Bertuzzi also wouldn't interest Carolina. He's not better than Necas, Jarvis, Svechnikov, Teravainen, or Bunting. He's not going to replace Martinook or Jarvis, and Noesen is just WAY better in terms of value.
I get the idea, but there is nothing here that interests Carolina. If you want Kotkaniemi, a young, promising 2C with long term team control on a steal of a deal, you're looking at 1st+++. There's nothing here that comes close to that for the Canes.

Top 10 Prospects By Position
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>NHLfan10506 just curious here, but where would you rank guys like Jayden Perron and Felix Unger-Sorum in prospect rankings? Don’t have many problems with the rankings you have here, although I do think Morrow has a higher ceiling than a couple of guys who are higher up on the list.</div></div>
I probably overrank college guys, because I have always followed NCAA hockey. So what I know about Unger Sorums (Unger Sorei?) is primarily what I got from pre-draft and see international tournaments. There will be others who can give better take on Felix.
I like Perron, but he probably has a ways to go before he is candidate for these lists. There are five or six guys ahead of him on that team. Will be interesting how he develops when Gaber and Blake depart.
Morrow is good…(as is Ufko)….and he has been playing the long-game since end of his Freshman year. Last season was disappointing (the team wasn’t good). This year is better. In the last broadcast I saw, they were talking about his work ethic and seriousness away from ice. And I got all bulled up on him. But of all the possible 3rd year signees this April, I do worry a little about Morrow and signability. Especially since there is no AHL team sorted up. In the end, he probably signs and takes DeAngelo role next year. But I wouldn’t expect Faber-esque impact. Skating just not there.

Vejmelka is no Patrick Roy or Marty Brodeur, but Samsonov is a downgrade from him both financially (more important to the Coyotes than any other team) and on the ice, and a dart throw and two Hail Mary's don't justify Arizona taking that step.

These look pretty bad for Calgary and Carolina IMO.
Sure, Calgary gets out of the Kadri deal. But they take on another defenseman when their blue line is already pretty crowded, and that's 6 years of retention on Kadri.
Teravainen and Necas are combined for 16 goals, 40 points on the year. Chinakov and Laine combine for 7 goals, 11 points. Carolina's a contender and they aren't going to give you a first to get worse.
I as a Pens fan will happily take Justin Danforth off your hands, though.

Free them both
McDavid and Draisaitl are untradeable.
Any realistic trade that a team would be willing to give up would result in Ken Holland getting the Peter Pocklington treatment. He'd have his Canadian citizenship revoked and have to live out his life in exile in Palm Springs, receiving death threats half a century later.
Any trade that wouldn't get Holland fired would completely destroy the franchise that was trading for him. They'd have absolutely no players, prospect pipeline or high round picks left, and as has been demonstrated in Edmonton, one (or even two) superstar player(s) isn't enough to build a Stanley Cup winner.
McDavid and Draisaitl will either play in Edmonton their entire careers, or they will walk for nothing a la John Tavares when their contracts are up.
