<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>I said statistical awards at the end of 62 games, voting awards at the end of 82 games.

In terms of divisional play. My point is that either they should go all in on divisions and ditch the conferences and then have the top 4 teams from each division in the playoffs OR if you don't like that then I think they should ditch the Divisions and go all in on Conferences.

Think about how much more unfair it is right now that Detroit and Pittsburgh are fighting for a playoff spot when Detroit has had to play Toronto, Boston, Florida, Tampa and extra time and Pittsburgh got extra games against Columbus. Like there are 4 "top" teams in the Atlantic and 2 "top" teams in the Metro. So Detroit gets a minimum of 2 harder games (4 points) which right now is the difference between them making the playoffs or not.

It seems much more fair just to have everyone competing for playoff spots play the same schedule. If your division is too hard then that sucks for you, work on becoming a top 4 team in your division. That seems more fair than the current system where if your division is hard you get screwed in the wildcard race against teams from another division with easier schedules.</div></div>

Got it...

I think they should just ditch the Divisions and go conferences... That way Detroit and Pitts are on an even field... I think conferences could solve that issue...

Another issue is; look at how well the Canadian division was received in '21... Too much playing each other could be a bad thing if there's no variety...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>Recommend you listen to JD Bunkis' podcast from today with Elliott Friedman who said teams have been valuing Cowan, Minten and Knies above the Leafs 1st.</div></div>

Just listened. That isn't what he said at all. He said "Some teams have asked about guys like Cowan, Knies, and Minten, but TOR is not interested in moving them." Which happens in the NHL constantly every year, and teams are always more reluctant to move their established prospects. They draft guys based on contention windows and established timelines, when they move guys that changes the timeline and possibly puts them in an awkward position where they don't have any cap space and have to move someone they don't want to move and they don't have an affordable replacement. That is entirely different from saying "teams value them more than a 1st." Every trade is different, every team is different, everyones needs are different, and things can change every day. Like Friedge also went on to say, things can change, if something falls into their lap that is too good to pass up, they might be willing to move their prospects.

Also, I like Friedge, and he is a knowledgable guy, but he is basically the TMZ of the hockey world. People go to him to drop the things that they want said publicly, and he also generates speculation based on small amounts of information. He generally doesn't say things that don't have some level of truth to them, but it still should all be taken with a grain of salt. A lot of these things are intentionally put out by front offices to guys like him to create buzz, manipulate narratives, to put feelers out there for possible opportunities, and to garner interest and test the market. He is basically a tool for front offices of different teams to communicate arbitrarily and indirectly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>Cowan should be untouchable. Top of OHL in Points per game, top 10 in +/-, top 40 in PIMs. Not a guarantee this translates to the NHL but a rare combination of skills/grit that we shouldn't move on from.

Minten will be in the lineup next year.

Also feel like the smaller wins on the team are being overlooked:
- Brodie looks like his old self playing the left. If he can maintain this then we just traded a massive liability at 1RD for a top 10 DFD at 2LD.
- Lili seems to be finding his stride again. He was great before his injury, been a bit off since but looked good with Brodie and he's over 60% on the PP replacing Rielly. Unsustainable numbers but for a guy who looked like he was on track to grow into a #2/3 earlier this year and suddenly regressed to a #5/6 after his injury this is a great sign that he could be our 2RD for the next 5+ years.
- Benoit/McCabe have incredible chemistry, exactly the pairing we've been wanting for years. Hard to play against shutdown pair.
- Holmberg, McMann both look like they should be playing in the NHL. Gives us loads of depth and the option to play around with the bottom 6 when Jarnkrok is back to make 2 effective lines.

Overall a great week for the Buds. Lots to be excited about.</div></div>

Wouldnt say untouchable as there are guys out there I would move him for

And in general Im not gonna look to much into the other stuff as this is what the Leafs do when their big guys are out they step up. Im waiting for when Rielly comes back what happens

As the term Leafy be on full display rn

Thread: Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fangm</b></div><div>Agree that his value could be impacted by WHO is selling. Saying he's worse this year than last year is just wrong tho. You have to consider that he isn't playing on the PP this year.

Last year when he was traded, at 5v5 he had 8 points in 29 games (.27 points per game). This year at 5v5 he has 18 points in 52 games (.35 points per game).

He's also playing less than last year 16:30 per game vs 15:43. And he isn't getting the offensive zone starts. His most common start now is in the neutral zone (19% of his shifts), last year it was the Offensive zone where he started 18% of shifts down to 15% this year. His penalty differential, expected goals, expected goals against are all better this year than last year (even including his time in Boston).

We could debate it forever but the numbers for Bert back him being worth at least as much as last year if not more. I think GMs trade for him because of his combination is skill/grit moreso than just his pure numbers. Toronto definitely isn't putting him in a position to succeed. His best work comes in front of the net on the PP and Tavares has that spot and is arguably the best in the league there.

For Lili, the numbers just don't back the hate for him. Every analytics model has him as a dominant two-way D. He plays slightly sheltered minutes (against middle 6 opponents) but he wins those minutes consistently. I think he also gets hate cause people think he's fully developed. He's 24 like the same age as Noah Cates' rookie season. Most D don't peak until 26-29. He's still got the potential to become a #2, look at Hanifin, Andersson even for Phili someone like Sanheim and how much they were bashed when they were 22-26 I'd argue all of them are top 2D now. This doesn't even factor in that he lost over a year of playing to mono so his development is likely a bit behind the rest of his draft class most of whom are just breaking into the league.

Anyways my point is that I get where you are coming from I just disagree with some of the valuation. I think you might be right on my undervaluing Frost/Walker as well tho. And I do believe Frost can be a top 6 guy, from an outsiders perspective it seems the flyers undervalue him but that could be a faulty perspective</div></div>

We can agree to disagree on Bertuzzi, one final thought though. If Brad trades bert isn't he then admitting one of his biggest signings was a mistake? That doesn't seem like something a GM would do.

In regards to Lily, I agree I think he has value. But yet again, every Leafs fan is trying to trade him in deals so doesn't that show that even the Toronto fan base doesn't have faith in him. I think he ends up being a good 2nd pairing guy, but for Philly he isn't better than Sanheim, York and Drysdale so he at best is our #4. For a team with such a dire need on defense trading Lily to me shows that he isn't valued. Just my opinion.

Finally, I highly doubt Philly moves Frost at all. He has been too valuable. Maybe in the offseason in a "hockey" trade.
