The difference is, Eriksson is under contract for how many more years????? While Hank is on his last year. As someone said above. Buying out Hank is 5.5m this year and 1.5m next year. I'll take that over being saddled with Loui's contract any day. Unless you want to really sweeten the pot for us to take the longer contract (and even then, if you added a 1st, I still would be disappointed if NYR mgmt actually accepted it.

I have no problem with a '21 3rd+Smith for a '21 6th exchange.

Whoops, Georgiev trade got overlooked. He's gone to DET for 2nd 2021 + 3rd 2020.
As stated up top, 7th D is whatever random D/vet you can get to sign for league minimum.
Fast's (agent's) asking price is horse ****, but I could see him getting 3-3.25m in FA. If he wants to stay a Ranger, 2.5m is the number for me.

1 trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JumboJoe</b></div><div>fair point, but in this scenario you have 2.7 million left in space which is enough to keep Lemieux and Strome</div></div>
It is enough to keep Lemieux, but not Strome. He has arbitration rights and easily gets 4+m/1yr.
But again the point isn't strictly value/money/cap. It's, where do those 2 players fit on the roster assuming we traded picks for Nuke/Jost? Strome would fit for sure as 3c (again, he actually doesn't fit cap wise though), while Lemieux, well, he would fit MAYBE as the 4LW, but I personally am pretty happy with Gettinger there.
Unless you're saying, just to not make the trade at all and keep Lemieux/Strome, while not acquiring Nuke/Jost, but again, my point is which team is better AND cheaper, and the answer is, after the trade happens, NYR are a better team on both counts.

Strictly from a value point of view, I do not disagree with you.
From a "what fields a better team on the ice for NYR, one that trades those players, or one that retains them?" - I think the answer is the former.

What I actually did was borrowed from that earlier trade, and added Kamenev to it, which I thought was approximately reasonable. (clearly noted above)
I went with Lemieux for Nichushkin straight up, admitting that it was close, and that extraneous factors could be considered when discussing the trade. I also specifically noted that the additional condition for Nichushkin could be removed during negotiations. (clearly noted above)
Entirely reasonable things that I did there, that can be discussed and negotiated on, as just because one fan agreed with a trade in another thread doesn't mean that it is cemented and the only fair/reasonable trade available.

Sorensen is a winger who was below replacement level this season, there's really no place for him in the lineup.</div></div>
Fair enough, and useful tool...however, realistically what do you think the org will settle for (assuming no team gives up a late 1st (i.e. Min with Pitts or SJ with TBLs), and assuming the Org wants Strome gone as bad as you do (which they likely don't but we'll know in a few months), what would be a fair settling point? It's kind of a "can't have your cake and eat it too" situation here...

The Rangers don't really have room for PJ anymore...we have Buch, Kakko, Gauthier now, and Kravtsov coming up. He doesn't fit unless we trade one of them.
The only one we would trade would be Buch...and the price for Buch would be something like PJ+2+3 for Buch.
EDM : NYR incl PJ just doesn't work anymore.

I understand not wanting to trade Nichushkin. If I was you, I wouldn't want to either; he's a fancy stats wet dream at an affordable price that can play all situations and easily plug holes up and down the lineup. I'm a huge fan of his.
I think the value is pretty much there, but declining on account of team needs/desires/preference, totally reasonable.

Kamenev is practically a throw in.
Including a 5th or 6th takes care of that disparity easily.
Half of the COL ACGM's either throw him in a random trade, or don't trade him AND don't re-sign him, or re-sign him and then leave him in the minors.
And I included in the description above that a reasonable negotiation would be to remove some of the conditions (which were that they would be UPGRADED on condition, not that they were conditional to be included at all...)

Combining some deals with the Avs Ive been seeing
I'm not high on acquiring any defensemen, unless it's a trade like DeAngelo : Hanifin.
In my opinion, we have the future defense core already in the system. One of Trouba/DeAngelo moves to the left and our top 4 is SOLID in a couple years (Trouba, Fox, DeAngelo, Miller). Then we have further depth options with Rykov, Hajek, Lundkvist, Reunanen, Robertson.

Appreciate the insight on Terry being a Wing not a C. I just looked deeper at his stats and saw that. I haven't watched them play, so I was going strictly by TOI and pts: looked like a bottom 6 player to me. Strome also isn't a middle 6 player, he is a top 6 player, but as I said: I don't know what ANA 5 year outlook is, so if they don't have a need/spot for him, that's fine.

87 percent NYR dont win pick1
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DoubleADoubleK</b></div><div>Trading Georgiev makes zero sense</div></div>
I see this a lot, and I used to agree, but the more time I have spent thinking about it:
If you think Georgiev can be a top 30 goalie in this league, then you trade him.
Lets say you re sign him for 2 years, AND lets assume that he gets 20-30 games in the '21 season, and another 15-25 in the '22 season prior to the TDL. (The biggest assumption there is that somehow someway Hank is not playing at all in '21).
Now, at that point in time you are trading him. Period. There is 0 reason to keep him. 1) He wil want to be a starter on another team. 2) His value will have gone up slightly. 3) If you re-sign him, he will demand to be paid, but at the end of the '21 season, Shesty should have been locked up long term for 4-5m/8. Then you are paying too much for a 2nd goaile that will play 25ish games.
So the biggest things to consider now become: 1) How much will his value have gone up after those 40-50 games, and 2) If you traded him as proposed right now, do you feel comfortable with a UFA backup goaltender for '22, or do you feel comfortable with a callup like Wall or Huska, or do you not feel comfortable with either?
Unless the answer to question 1) is that his value has gone up to warrant a mid-late 1st rd pick, then it isn't worth hanging on to him.
Of course that is my opinion, but I have spent a lot of time going back and forth on the issue and have settled on this perspective for now.
