Big Trade for Larkin and AA
Edmonton wouldn't want 4 centers that combined make 34 million. If you have McDavid, Larkin, Nugent-Hopkins, plus Draisaitl thats not a way to manage your salary in the salary cap world.

Larkin
If Detroit were to trade Larkin you would not get to protect the 1st round pick. It would be a 1st rounder no matter what this year. The risk Montreal would have to take in order to get a young center who is a 50-60 point scorer. Detroit can afford to sign him long term after this season. Detroit would much rather have the #1 overall pick than a first and second rounder next year.

This would be my lines with Nielsen out and Svechnikov up
Detroit won't bring him up to be a 3rd line guy. Switch Abby and Svech and it is more reasonable. I know they are saying this is just for two/ three games, but let the kid play where you project him to play in the future. If the organization believes he is a top 6 guy he has to play top 6 minutes while he is with the Wings. If they needed a guy to fill the 3rd line role they would have looked at a different option.

Red wings fans, who is on the block for an offseason deal?
Glendenning, Nyquist, DeKeyser, and Ouellet are the names I think they will shop... I will be happy if they move one of these guys for fair value. I don't want them to trade just to trade, but if they can get a fair value for these guys I hope they make a deal. I can also see them wait until next year's deadline to shop Nyquist.

No team could afford to take Abby and Howard even with some money retained. There is just zero value in Abby with his contract, and while there is some value with Howard his value is gone when you pair him with Abby.

Updated trade deadline predictions
Detroit will be able to get a non protected 1st. There is no way I'm making the deal for Green if the pick potentially turns in to a second rounder. Remember Detroit got a 2nd and a 3rd for Smith. The price will be there for Green, and they should settle for nothing more than a 1st + a mid level prospect or additional picks. If you're doing a protected pick it would have to turn in to a first rounder the following year no matter what. I don't think a protected pick is all you get for Green though.

Setting Up for the Future - Trade Deadline (TOR, MTL, NJD)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dtd_tank</b></div><div>I think this is the first time I've ever thrown Ericsson into a trade. I tend to waive him for the $1.025M savings. However, he's been playing pretty decently this year (4 pts in last 6 games), so I thought of a "sell high" trade which would get you guys a 3rd pairing guy at very low cost (you give a 5th for Ericsson and a 6th). We eat 47% of his salary.</div></div>
Even if you were to sell Ericsson high, it would not include getting a higher pick. You have to remember just because he has a good stretch of games, teams are going to look at his past 3 years and compare him to that rather a 6 game stretch. Teams will not take Ericsson, unless we give them an asset. It just doesn't work for a slow, 33 year old defensemen that really doesn't offer much to a team outside of being a 6th defensemen.

Tell me what u think of this
Ericsson has very little trade value. He has a bad contract, and really doesn't do much on the ice. He's not a physical presence, he doesn't score, and he's slow. In the evolving NHL a slow non physical defenseman that can't score isn't going to draw any interest. He's a 6th dman with a top 4 dman contract. No team will take that especially when they have to give up a 2nd rounder. A more realistic deal with Ericsson would involve Detroit retaining salary, taking on a bad contract, and maybe getting a 5th or 6th round pick. He just doesn't have any value. I would love to trade him, you just have to hope a team gets desperate...

If thats all it took to get Karlsson I would do this in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, you aren't even close hahaha. To get Karlsson it would involve Larkin or Mantha, as well as Svech. Plus at least one first rounder and probably another.

Radio rumors
I think if Detroit were to move Mantha it would be in a separate deal, and not tied with Green's contract. To me the 2nd round pick doesn't make up for what Detroit is giving up. Galchenyuk > Mantha, but Green >> Benn. I don't think Detroit wants a 30 year old dman that really isn't any different than a Jonathan Ericsson. Detroit needs to get young and this doesn't do it for them.

We'll see
Green isn't going to take a paycut to play for a bad Wings team. And I doubt Carlson would come here as well. Ericsson would never get you a 2nd and a 3rd. I don't think Ouellet could get you a 3rd either. I agree with the deals you are trying to make I think you are over valuing the Red Wings players though. I would love to see them move Ericsson, Glendenning, a goalie, and Nyquist. I just think your values are off on these deals. Instead of signing Green I would look to move him at the deadline to yield a 1st rounder from someone, or a solid prospect.
Rasmussen would not make the Wings if he were slated to the 4th line.

Helping the PK - trades with FLA and DET
Yeah as a Wings fan I would do this in a heartbeat. The more realistic deal would be Glendenning for a 4th (or a conditional 3rd). He's actually been a decent player this year, and could yield a 3rd or 4th depending on how desperate a team is.

Best Case Deadline Deals
Even with Ericsson's metric stats looking much better this year, you are crazy to think you would get a 2nd and a 3rd rounder from anyone. The Toronto trade would never work either because of Dekeyser's contract. I believe Glendenning could be an interesting trade deadline name, but don't think teams bite on him. Teams won't take bad contracts for mediocre players and give us high draft picks.

if ken Holland made good moves
Odds are they don't take Vasilevsky, with Howard being relatively young and injury free at that point in his career. The Cholowski/ Chychurn deal was 100% necessary. If they don't do that deal they are in Cap hell for the next two years (and the cap issue is already a massive problem). I don't think these were dumb moves by Holland (just dumb moves in hindsight) but you have to look at the whole picture. Franzen was the cheaper option at the time, Vasilevsky wouldn't have been drafted by Detroit because they had their goalie, and the cap trade with Arizona had to happen...

If the Wings could get a 3rd round pick for Glendening they would be crazy to not accept... and you're throwing in a 23 year old kicker. Way to much for Glendening, but I would love if the Wings pulled a move like this.

Big trade
Not sure what Neal's contract situation is, but the Wings couldn't afford him if he has multiple years remaining. They have a lot of cap issues, and can't afford to take on another big contract. I don't think you can get Green unless you deal a 1st rounder or a high prospect.

To get rid of Ericcson's contract it will take much more than a 5th and 6th rounder. He is a bad player, with a bad contract. You would be looking at at least dealing a 3rd.

This make sense?
A team like Detroit can't be in the business of trading a 21 year old who leads the team in points for another player. Unless Larkin were to be dealt for a legit star of the league Detroit will never deal him. I know they need defense, but dealing Larkin is not the answer. I am all for dealing Green, Nyquist, and Mrazek. Mrazek probably wouldn't get you a 3rd unless it were conditional on him resigning (which he wouldn't, and they wouldn't resign him). I think Green would get a 1st and a 3rd, I don't think Detroit really needs to throw in a pick in the deal. And I would love to get a 2nd for Nyquist, but I think it could potentially be more of a conditional second, or Detroit has to retain salary. I also love Bertuzzi, but he's not a top 6 winger. Abby or Helm would fill that spot.

Next Year’s RFAs
There is no way AA makes more than Mantha even with him getting a 3rd year compared to Mantha's 2. I think your salary is low for Mantha and Larkin. I see them each getting over 4, especially if they show this year they are one of the few consistent point producers on the team.

CGY Trades - Read first, please!
I don't see any team taking Abdelkader's contract, especially after the year he had last year. Abby's contract will be a problem for Detroit for a long time now, and unless they package a 1st rounder or more with him I don't see a team taking him (even with Howard in the deal). Just think teams know better than to have a long contract for a 3rd line winger.
