starting lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>ugh....yeah this isnt going to happen
EJ will be ready for opening night, you are noy trading away Zads for picks, Mikko will sign for more even on a bridge deal. Why would you move Calvert who is an important player for that bottom 6 and PK, Graves does not play Zads game nor does he play it better. Graves is not physical who hits
In no way are the Avs going to have 5 rookies making up a Dcore....yikes</div></div>
Haha! OK maybe I'm 1 year in advance with this lineup...
Calvert: honestly, Greer can take his task easily. It's time for the Avs to make a place for him, not just for a 3 or 4 game callups with a 4 minutes playing time. And for Kamenev, this guy has all the tools: skate, vision, hands, IQ, 2-way skills. IMO in no way I play Calvert and Nieto this season instead of Greer and Kamenev.
Byram will most likely have his 9 games and will be back in juniors. Unless he is extremely good at his tryout. It's good if EJ is ready! But if he's not, no problem in playing Timmins and Rosen. I want to see these guys 100 times before Barberio and Connauton. And Z, I like him. I know he hits hard and his teammates love him. But apart from hitting, what is Z ? Didn't have a huge impact for the Avs in the last playoffs. He is very capable of putting you in trouble too. I'm just saying that Graves can take his job and that he's a better hockey player overall than Z. He's mobile as well and has a bomb as a shot. I saw Graves play often in the Q at the time, playing 25 minutes and quarterbacking the PP. At 6.05 225lbs he can defend himself too. He can hit but you're right it's not neccessary in his nature if you compare to Z. But give him Zadorov's minutes and you'll be surprised how good he can be.
I'm not telling you it's going to happen. I tell you that I didn't have any problem in playing these talent young guys as early as this year. But like I said above, maybe it's 2020-2021.

You can think that as you want... but the reality is that Tyler Johnson has had ONE big season in his career with 72 points in 2014-15. Since then, he's just became who he is: a good average player with 45 pts/year production. His overall playing time has dropped to around 15 minutes/game Vs. 18 to 19 minutes/game years before. His production in the playoffs has also dropped considerably. I still prefer to keep a 21 y.o. Tyson Jost and his big potential with everything to prove instead of an average Tyler Johnson.

Hard pass from COL. No way I trade Jost. His play in the last playoffs showed us all his talent and great potential. By playing big minutes on the Top-6, it will be the year when he will reach it's potential. I predict him 60 pts. You don't trade a talented 21 y.o. kid like that against a 29 y.o. Tyler Johnson already on the decline.

Bowers and Timmins are "A prospect" imo. Maybe you consider Kaut ahead of Bowers in the moment, that's ok. I don't think about Girard because WPG will want a righty not a lefty. I would make the deal anyway with Kaut instead of Bowers. Kaut + Timmins + 2 firsts for Laine and his funky thinny beard. I think it's a good return, considering that Laine just had a tougher year and wants $ 10M / year. COL can put him under contract at this price, while having the same deal for his Finnish buddy Rantanen. And it does not put them in financial trouble if they get rid of a few bodies like Calvert, Nieto, Connauton or Barberio.

it kills me to see so many people overestimate Drouin. Would you pay as much for Alex Wennberg or Anthony Mantha ? Because there is the comparison for Drouin among the guys drafted in 2013. They have in common to have enough talent to play in the NHL and pick up 50-60 pts/year without having to move the ass too hard. Too lazy guys. They have a lot more potential than that but they are just happy guys like that I guess. They are far from MacKinnon or Barkov or Monahan.

Yep. COL won't trade Girard for sure. Byram is the almost unanimous choice to go out at 4th OA. I doubt he'll go 3rd to Blackhawks. If COL passes, Sakic has to trade down and cash his 4th OA. Byram would be a perfect fit for LA Kings.

Maybe I'm not getting enough for thoses guys, IDK. But I really think we have to trade EJ now, and keep Barrie. And you have to cut on the Cap at the maximum If you want to go hard on the FA market on July 1st. I'm just trying something with VAN, where I think that would be a good fit for both EJ and Kerfoot. Virtanen has given me the impression this season (15 goals) that he will finally hatch and become the true power forward we expected of him. He has a very good size and loves physical play along the boards. RW right shot with soft hands and good skating stride. He's just 22 years old. Maybe a bit risky but I'd love to see him in COL. I think he could have a bigger impact on that team than Kerfoot.

Accepting Barrie Offers
AVS should trade EJ now. EJ's clause is: <strong>"Modified NTC - NMC - lists 19 teams he can be trade to" </strong> The NMC basically means that he cannot go to waivers or be demoted to minors. Anytime Sakic can ask him for his list of 19 teams where he would agree to be traded. Maybe they could get a late 1st rounder for EJ. Like the TOR pick from LAK or the STL pick from ANA or the SJS pick from BUF.

Unless a miracle happens, Kesler career is over and his contract will end on LTIR. COL accepts Kesler contract dump to add Max Comtois to the trade. I love EJ and Kerfoot alot but in the end of the day, if this trade gives me Max Comtois and Peyton Krebs, I'll be really thrilled.

I read that somewhere. Word is that Duchene will most likely sign with OTT on July 1st. $60M / 7 years deal. He installed his family to the area, not too far away from his hometown Haliburton, ON and he's very happy there. He loved playing in Ottawa, had one of his best seasons there. The Senators will go up quickly with all the young players they have. He seems to want to be part of the new era which begins in OTT.

I like EJ but I think he's the one to be traded. You have to ask him his list: there are 19 teams where he can be traded. So you can have a good pick or prospect and it would be perfect. And you can re-sign Barrie. And no stress with the Seattle expansion draft.

MOCK TRADE MTL DROUIN
A big NO. This guy is just not worth that much. I would not even be ready to take Drouin for Tyson Barrie in a 1 on 1 trade. Because Barrie is top-9 among all NHL D for points since the 2013-14 season. He's worth more than Drouin alone. These offensive top D-men are not traded very often and they are expensive to acquire. COL will have the luxury of trading Barrie this summer because they have RD Makar and Timmins coming. And you don't give up on a 1st rounder or Jost or Girard or Kaut for Drouin. So... I think more about Drouin + a good prospect (Jesse Ylonen) VS. Barrie. Or another kind of proposal that does not involve Barrie like: Drouin VS. Alex Kerfoot and prospect D-men Nicolas Meloche.

It's still tighter than we think between Hugues and Kakko. Let's say COL win the lotto. They must play the joker and let believe that they are undecided, that they really like both. And good chances that the team holding the #2 makes you a good offer to reverse the pick. Suppose that #2 team is LA Kings and they absolutely want Jack Hugues, you could manage to get maybe an Adrian Kempe in addition of Kakko... It's an option to consider if they win the lotto IMO.

What I think it would take
Barrie is worth more than Drouin alone. Barrie is the 9th d-men overall in NHL for points since 2013-2014 (last 6 seasons). He's a career 0.66 pts per game producer. Drouin is a forward with a career 0.61 pts per game. In is draft class (2013) he's just a little better than Elias Lindholm 0.59, Bo Horvat 0.58, Anthony Mantha 0.58 and Alex Wennberg 0.51.
I think MTL will have to add at minimum a 2nd rounder pick or a very good prospect with Drouin for Barrie. Another suggestion might be Kerfoot + Meloche for Drouin.

offseason
I understand what you say guys but if we rely on averages for top D that perform, it gives around $8.5 - 9M for Karlsson. Doughty is the exception because the Kings gave him a nice bonus, probably happy to have won 2 Cups. And this has the effect of deceiving the market. McDavid is the exception at $ 12.5M, much like Toews and Kane ($10,5M) were in Chicago in 2014 after 2 Cups. Reality is the most dominant player in the league is Kucherov and he signed for $9.5M. Matthews and Tavares also are top players but are at $11.6M and $11M? There's surely a "CANADA" tax in those deals but I think TOR pays too much. That brings me to Rantanen, personnaly I think he's better than Matthews!! But why in the heck would I pay him more than Kucherov ?? It's a great debate guys! :-)

Compare to Brent Burns. He's the NHL top D for 2-3 years now and and he signed for $8M AAV. I think Doughty is overpaid... certainly had a bonus for his 2 Cups. Guy is very good but the only one to go over $9M. Subban is overpaid at $9M. John Carlson is $8M, Hedman is $7,875M, OEL is $8,25M... So it's why I put EK at $8,75M.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Foppa21</b></div><div>Whole lot of wishful thinking here...</div></div>
Haha! Yep it looks like that!! But it's the kind of trade Sakic must try to do. TB and TOR are teams that still in need of a Top-4 RHD to go far in the playoffs in the East and also 2 teams who will have to tweek salaries and assets to be able to sign their young RFA stars (RE: Marner, Point). CAR are close to entering playoffs and it's known that they are looking to boost their offense. If they are willing to sacrifice a very good prospect like Necas for immediate help (Compher and Kerfoot) why not? And speaking of playoffs, do you think Canes are really comfortable to show up at the party with Mrazek and McElhinney in net? Varlamov could be a pretty good insurance policy for them.
So I don't know. Maybe these are not so crazy ideas. I'm not telling you it's going to happen but I think it's a proactive approach and better than the status quo. We trade those who bring us good value in return: Barrie, EJ, Kerfoot, Compher. We don't really touch the "future" here. We trade our pending UFA and we give a fair shot at our kids for the rest of the year. Let's them grow together. Ohhh and you have money for Rantanen and also for a UFA like Stone or Skinner in the summer.
