Yeah wtf is this? lol, and dude has the nerve to ask for a 2nd and a throw in that doesn’t even make cap space for the contract they’re sending over…

Bichsel, Grushnikov, most of the defense prospects(could maybe trade Kyrou as he’s more of just a pure offensive guy and not really needed if the power play 2 is run by Harley or Nils already). Really if we want a solid 1-6 on defense in the future and want to avoid trying to bargain bin shop for washed veterans then we need guys that can skate well, pass and play well defensively too, in order to do that they need a large pool to draw from (unfortunately once the guys that don’t make it by a certain age have gotten to that point they have no trade value but it’s better than losing the opportunity to build a top to bottom solid defense corps).

I don’t see why Montreal would want Faksa and id say Petry has negative value to us unless his cap hit is less than 3 million, already have one busted old veteran (Suter) that’s overpaid by a million and a half or so (maybe not by points, Suter gets assists sure, but his footspeed and soft play….). Lose lose trade.

Petry Offseason Deal Suggestions
Nah from a Dallas fan, if he only had one year on that deal (so he could be gone after the season) and we could change that 2nd to a 1st to pay them to take Suter instead of Hakanpaa….then maybe. I don’t think he’s worth a second but with 50% retention I get it, take out the 5th out either way it doesn’t move the needle you might as well keep it.

No thanks from Dallas, at that cap hit no way, almost double Suter and he’s not he’s not that much better and his decline could catch up with Suter this year. He would just be another veteran taking up PP time and blocking development of Harley and Lundkvist and giving minimal effort.
Stars should stand pat until the trade deadline and just see if Lundkvist can get his defensive play to an acceptable level and him or Harley will run PP2.

Interesting…. based off of everyone bagging on DeBrincat I guess he’d have a lower value if everyone is right. Marchmeant is probably like a negative asset though and has 10 team no trade list, hard to get rid of that experiment.

Yeah a non playoff team that needs to hit cap floor, something Boston should do if you don’t have to retain on him. Makes sense that it was just forgetting to switch the trading team.

No on the Forbert one, that guy doesn’t add anything that can be gotten cheaper or replaced with rotation of call ups.

Chicago has plenty of cap space they can keep Jones for a few years. IMO he’s not worth that term and not worth that cap hit, not that desperate over here.

How Swede it is
Nah from Dallas, we don’t really have an offense problem anymore it’s the defense that needs fixing, too soft and not skilled enough defensively (not breaking up plays, too slow, not agile enough etc) need to go after assets that fill the need.
If you were offering an upgrade over any of: Colin Miller soft and sucks at defending, Suter slow and soft, Hakanpaa another gentle giant big guy that would be great if he at least played a tiny bit meaner (hit to make it hurt and just dominating the net front). Any ideas for fixing that lol?

Dallas needs fewer defensemen blocking Harley and Lundkvist. Maybe if that trade included or another couple of trades removing Hakanpaa and Suter.

Next season
Here we go again with the Petry to Dallas horseshift. No thanks, I’d give up that 2023 4th to just to keep him away from Dallas.
Anyone else remember when Habs fans thought they’d get a haul from Dallas for that guy last summer (Bourque plus a first LOL, yeah SONK! how about Matheson and a fourth!) all the while acting like it was set in stone they had to replace Klingberg with another expensive righty. Jim Nill did the smart thing and traded a first for a prospect further along and more of a sure thing then a guy you just drafted, and headed in the opposite trajectory as a 35 year old Petry.

This will never work
Yeah that’d be a total fleecing by Vancouver dump Miller’s contract for just 2 years left on Benn (who is playing better than he was last few years) we plus getting two good prospects and the 2nd rounder. They should be paying to get rid of Miller if they want him gone so bad. Maybe I’m just biased but I’m just not a fan of the guy.
All downside from a Stars perspective unless Miller can beat the odds and not be a 30+er that falls off a cliff in Dallas and live up to that contract. Also in my opinion the stars shouldn’t be big spenders at the deadline, the only reason to make any push would be to try and get a cup while Benn and Seguin are still here otherwise wait and see which prospects pan out instead of dumping them.

Deadline
I wouldn’t make that TK trade, I think this year was above his average. This team won’t get that kind production out of him.
Grab a guy at the deadline for a later round pick like they did with Namestnikov to show the team you believe they can make a push. But in reality they need to fix whatever coaching issues they’re having right now, not being able to finish games against good teams is one thing, losing to bottom feeders is another. I’d rather they not trade away prospects to push this team to be a slightly better non contending playoff team.

Hopefully they or whoever is getting those spots can create enough to counter Benn’s weak spots and give him someone to play with this year instead of (needs help himself) Seguin (inconsistently good) Raffl and (has potential but can’t be the guy and needs to be set up) Gurianov. We’ll see I guess.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>Swap Nils and Jani. Kivi will likely play over Damiani. I’d pull Glendening before Kivi</div></div>
Yeah you’re probably right with spreading out the talent on D I was just throwing lines together wasn’t that concerned aside from making sure I didn’t leave Benn or Suter too high and having to respond to all of the Captains Obvious.
Not really high on Kivi or Glendenning, ideally would have to compete with each other to stay in the line up the motivation of UFA year should be a big motivator. I think they both start the season unless they are sent through waivers to be cap compliant on season start date and (very unlikely) get claimed. Just realized I forgot to switch Olofsson and Kivi once I had the extra cap space, whatever bottom line is best case scenario maybe we can get two rookies in the lineup Damiani or Dellabdrea and Johnston. But I have a feeling they send Johnston back to Juniors. The hope is Nill and company don’t want to set up the contracts so that both Stankoven and Johnston need new deals when Robertson is up for renewal.
I posted another thread where Damiani and Johnston don’t make the team and it’s definitely a less exciting bottom 6 and a much more useless Benn without talent to play with.

What I don’t get is that since this is the type of player they would hope to draft with a late mid first round pick but a surer thing (vs trying to draft a guy then waiting four years to get where Nils is at now) but he’s more developed then why is it such a bad trade? Guy was great in the SHL and Rags fans seem to **** in the AHL development a lot, I think it’s more of a sure thing then drafting a guy next summer that’s probably in the Bichsel trajectory. I think Stars fans are let down that their dad traded an unopened pack of baseball cards for an opened one ruining the surprise... I think the fans of other teams that were in on Nils but didn’t get him are too attached to first round picks as well. The extra fourth is a depth pick or big gamble anyway if that’s the bidding war tax then fine.
I proposed a Dellandrea for Lundkvist 1 for 1 traded months ago but now starting to think about it, that still would need a sweetener since middle six centers are easier to find than mobile righty Defense. Fans would have been ok with losing Dellandrea as there’s newer shinier prospects now and he’s not super flashy but I think Management is already hoping he can fill some needs soon.
To put it another way I’d rather a former first potentially ready prospect (RFA with 2 years on ELC) vs dumping a contract or renting a Nick Foligno or David Savard, but we’re not in a desperate playoff push yet so it’s tough to criticize those trades but I know what I’d rather get with a first. With the way the near NHL depth charts look I’d say they would probably just grab another “What do we need more of in the pantry” depth chart hole filler like they did with most of 2022 draft.

Same here. If this happened I wouldn’t criticize any Jim Nill decisions for at least a year, and in Montreal....Kent Hughes would likely be burned at the stake.
I especially don’t get the downgrade of every Montreal pick (the 3rd they get back from the Stars isn’t even a 23’ draft pick) and a potential lottery pick in the 23 draft is worth some form of an upgrade.... Pull Dach and the Montreal second and thirds out it’s closer to the up pay to get that high chance lottery pick, but Seguin’s contract (with no retention) has too many years left even if he does fully recover and return to like 70% of what he was.

I didn’t think you were, I might be just numb to nonsense in values we all think each individual is worth over another and whatnot, that is something I have come to expect. After that looking at things that the team just wouldn’t do (regardless if the trade values were more realistic and regardless of the buyout rules).
