Deadline deal

The funny part about this comment is that you say no....but this deal is heavily in favor of Toronto when you consider it provides everything they need to become legit contenders.

why does everyone from PIT seem to want to trade Maatta? Seems like a decent Top 4 D. I am curious however what is value would be.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>VeeMerk</b></div><div>Exactly! If i'm the blues i'm gonna ask for even more from the us (The Habs). Definitely not great trade partners unless it's more of a depth type trade
In fact, Habs aren't good trading partners with anybody. We're rebuilding and just cause we're doing decently well, that doesn't mean you sacrifice the future. There are moves that could be made that won't cost us our top picks or prospects but we won't land a world class player like Tarasenko by not giving up Kotkaniemi, Suzuki, Brook etc.</div></div>
I wouldn't call Tarasenko world class....elite perhaps but not world class. I think everyone will be disappointed in what the return will be if he is traded however.

I think the worst part is the fact that you think Keith is worth that package.......I am all for using Keith as a potential fill gap at LD, however that price is absurd for what he currently brings.

Montreal should really not be spending picks and prospects on rentals at this stage. Not ready to make it all the way to the finals yet.

Carolina trade
Just gonna say that Suzuki is not going to be first line his first year in the NHL. At best he will most likely be 3rd line playing in a protected role as a rookie. Can probably get a 5th or 4th for Schlemko alone and unfortunately Bean would cost so much that im not sure it would be worth it, then again prospects are usually over rated by their respective fans so its kinda hard to judge the market for them. Heck, people were saying we would only get a 1st at best for Pacioretty...yet Habs got back Suzuki, a mid tier 2nd from the looks of it and Tatar who has become a fan favorite...

BOS MTL and OTT interested in Coyle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>Foligno has been awesome, I wouldn't want to trade him. His contract is expensive and he probably isn't worth all of it but I think he's maybe only $500k overpaid and he's an absolute force on the PK. IMO any Coyle trade with Shaw as the centerpiece for the Habs is a loss for the Wild. Id take Coyle over Shaw 10 times out of 10.</div></div>
Call me not convinced, there is a reason they are willing to move Coyle. Your writer said that they are looking for scoring winger....any move I can see that can get you that for Coyle would require an add on your end. I consider Shaw and Coyle to be a fairly even currently in value. You clearly wont be getting Gallagher and Suzuki as the value is just not there for the habs. In fact Donato is the only one I can see out of the players that you mentioned that could be moved and he is in the AHL so an add would be required by Boston. What do you think about say Byron? Has scored 20+ goals the last 2 years and 40 ish points.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arousedcat</b></div><div>Kind of all over the place, he's the Wild's jack-of-all-trades guy. He can play anywhere in the top 9 on RW, but generally he plays in the middle 6 (Bruce loves to switch up lines). As a center we've only ever needed him to play 3C since Koivu and Staal have been extremely healthy, but as you most likely saw last night he shows flashes of being a decent 2C.</div></div>
What about say if Habs were to take back the Foligno contract? You say Shaw is a downgrade but he has a better ppg this year. Perhaps a deal can be worked out where we send you Shaw + and receive Coyle and Foligno?

Does Coyle always play on the 2nd line or is he typically on the 3rd?

The pedigree for Puljujarvi is still high and they wont sell him on the loew</div></div>
So let me get this strait, he is valuable because he was picked up 4th over all even though he has been playing with McDavid and only put up 20 points in 65 games. Yeah sure, he usnt shown any progression over the past two seasons. He is turning into the next Yakupov.

Meh futures? Fleury has 4 points in 6 games in the ahl as a 19 year old defensemen. Not to mention that Hudon had more points than Puljujarvi did last year. Add on top of that a 2nd and we're just over paying for the sake of a getting a name that has yet to do much of anything in the NHL.

Pacioretty will definitely get a better return than skinner and you can't say his play is going down based on one bad year. There should definitely be a 1st involved ND maybe not an A+ prospect but an A or B+ prospect isnt out of the question. He is still under 30 and should get a bit better return compared to Kane as he has better stars and is better defensively.

Except this is and underpayment. Look at what Kane and Nash got for returns and as it stands currently, Kane is only one year younger than Patches. Everyone who keeps saying he lost his scoring touch because of one bad year needs to get their head checked considering the shape Montreal was in this past year.

That's crazy for any team to take on as a 1 year rental and risk having to sign him till he's 37 for that kind of money.</div></div>
Tell me hows that any different than the returns that Rick Nash and Evander Kane got. Ive seen quite a few trades that are fair yet get dragged through the mud anyway by the other teams fans. Evander Kane signed for 7x7 and that brings him until he is 35. Patcioretty also wont turn 30 until we are well into the season so as it stands there is a 2 year gap between him and Kane, the return should be similar if not greater than Kane considering the points that they put up.

Possible Pacioretty Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>That's just it, the Pens couldn't extend him if they wanted to. They don't have the cap space. He's a one and done, nothing but a rental player for a full season. No one is going to give up a ton for that.
You argue from a point like there are rights to the player or he comes with term. He doesn't. His next contract will be way out of their price range. You are better off looking at a team like boston if you want to get a return. You won't get that from the Penguins as he doesn't have the same value from them.</div></div>
Well if he is worth so much more to other teams...why would Montreal even attempt to trade him to PIT? And again...as a rental, Evander Kane with all his issues got a 1st, conditional 4th and a prospect. Pacioretty is worth more than Kane and will fetch more than him even if its at the deadline.
