<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Well Shaw is having a pretty average year. Low 30s high 20s points. Most Habs fans would tell you that his contract is a bit much and as a Hawks fan who has regularly watched him...id agree with the sentiment that his contract is too high. So i dont think he's worth want MB gave. And Yes. Patches at 1.5 years is essentially a rental. I hear ya. 1 more year, but Benn is 100% non factor so remove him. Is patches and Shaw equivalent in picks equal to Thomas and kyrou??? The answer is a pretty clear no. What would to add to get back into a fair trade? This would actually never happen. At the TDL anyway due to MTLs lottery status so make it a year end deal.</div></div>
Patches for 2 Stanley Cup runs is worth more than Hanzal got as a rental and Benn is a factor as he can bring a low pick and play bottom pairing. Shaw if not for being injured was on pace to have his best season points wise, I'd say he is at least worth two 2nd round picks. As for the patches trade, I'd say stl adds a 1st but they don't have a 2018 first so probably a 2nd in 2018 and a 2nd in 2019 but only if they reach the Stanley Cup finals.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>No issues with the EDM trade. Seems a bit much for Shaw considering his contract. But as far as STL...thats their top two prospects...and a minimum of 3 years an ELC for 1.5 years of pacoretty...benn really is a non factor in the trade...and 2 2nds which is what Shaw was for AND those 2nds were indeed low 2nds... Seems like you need to swap the 2018 2nd for a 1st.</div></div>
So on top of giving stl patches...you want to give them a 1st? Hell no, could get better value for him from other teams and not have to give up any picks in the process. Shaw is having one of his best years and should at least be worth the two 2nd round picks we gave up for him if we retain some. Edm trade is close, Byron is probably worth more like a 2nd and a 5th by himself so adding schlemko would add another lower pick in like a 4th, so maybe Byron and schlemko for a 2nd, 3rd and 7th?

Except the best center is max ranked like 10th this draft. This year is almost entirely defensemen in the first round.

So you tried to dump him for 4 months..then he gets 4 points in 5 games and he no longer is a cap dump. Yeah ok, I can tell how you like your Crosby and Malkin elevated players. Btw, Byron has had more points than Hagelin for 1/4th the cap hit.

Not sure on the value of the PHI trade as I dont know much about their prospect pool. I think the PIT trade works but may need to add a pick on MTL side to make it work.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vinniletieri</b></div><div>very realistic analysis but does that team beat Tampa, Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston, Toronto etc... in the east. while it certainly would be much improved and would probably make the playoffs, I just cant see them contending for the cup and isnt that the whole purpose? to eventually win the Stanley cup? that team will be too good to win any draft lottery and nab an elite centre that they desperately need but wont be good enough to win a cup. How does this sound? if MTL does somehow manage to get super lucky and win the draft lottery... does that pursued a guy like tavares to sign there... im sure he'd get a boat load of money. now all of the sudden you just added two franchise pieces without giving a single thing away!!!! like I said, extremely unrealistic. but hey... stranger things have happened :applaud</div></div>
The team might not beat those teams strait away in the playoffs, however with our current picks and any more we may add at the TDL, we should have atleast a couple of center prospects coming up. Next year patches is a UFA so that would most likely bring back another center to add to the mix.

Fate of this team: Read Description
Honestly...dont really need a full rebuild. Lets say MTL wins the lottery pick Dahlin. We pick up Calvin De Haan off the UFA list this post season along with Mikael Backlund and maybe someone like Lars Eller an you have a team that just went from **** show to playoffs. I know Backlund isnt really a 1c and more like a 2c but its better than we have and all these acquisitions are realistic.
Pacioretty - Backlund - Drouin
Eller - Galchenyuk - Sherbak
Lehkonen - Danault - Gallagher
Deslauriers - DLR/McCarron - Carr/Hudon
De Haan/Dahlin - Weber
Mete - Petry
Alzner - Jerabek
Idea is to add a couple pieces and trade a few for a quick 1-2 year turn around. Eller is back to help solidify Galchenyuk as a proper center again and when need be to fill in for him. If it is possible to get rid of Alzner I would do it, I hear that with some retained salary and for the right price, some teams might be interested in him for bottom pairing. Guys id like to see moved out include Benn and schlemko both of which are cheap bottom pairings guys to playoff teams and I cant forget about Byron who can probably fetch a 2nd at the TDL to a cup bound team. Plekanec may come back on a cheap one year deal to retire as a Hab. Overall you would have a very young team that can definitely give teams headaches.

He also was expect to do way to much in Montreal. Alzner is a defensive defenceman but both coaches and fans wanted him to produce more than he had in the past. He is a serviceable 4th D-man that would do great on say your bottom pairing for a playoff run or your 2nd pairing when with a puck moving defence man as a partner. Byron is well Byron lol speedster o add on the wing. Maybe add a pick to even it out on our side?

OK I'm gonna write this again...Alzner when signed became over payed because he was expected to do too much. That is where all the hate is coming from. He is a serviceable 4th D but needs a decent partner with him. Look back at WAS and he was good. Petry just isn't that guy. Alzner even while over payed has valud, retaim say 1 million and get probably a 2nd or 3rd back.

Montreal has no use for Gillies as they have already too many goalies in the pipeline. I don't know about the other prospects but I have a feeling non of them are RHD or center prospects that are highly rated which is what Montreal will ask for.

Alzner is a serviceable 4th D-man, too much was expected of him when he signed in Montreal which explains all the hate. With I'd say 1 million retaiNed he may fetch a 2nd to like NYI who need defence badly.

If MTL doesn't pick up Kruger off waivers I'll be really surprised.
Kruger is respectable and would help our current center situation. Maybe now we can play Droid at the wing lol...I looked taking smith as well but we would need to get rid of Alzner first. Looked at Jooris too but he is a righty and we need lefty d-men instead. Could Smith play a top 4 role and be more affective than Alzner?
