I don't have Hughes in my top-10 either.</div></div>
Quinn Hughes has managed to always find a way to be more productive then Rasmus Dahlin, every single year. Quinn Hughes also has great defensive statistics, better then Dahlins were. I understand taking Dahlin over him but they're very close and Hughes is definitely better then Ekblad

You do know Hughes had a lower Offensive Zone Start % and higher Defensive Zone Start % than Dahlin right? You also know Hughes had much worse defense partners right?
Per Evolving Hockey, in each of the last 4 seasons Hughes has a higher GAR, WAR, and SPAR than Dahlin. And last year was the only season of their careers that Dahlin had better defensive metrics than Hughes according to Evolving Hockey
According to the Atlantic, Hughes had better defensive metrics this season and in 2021/22, while Dahlin had better defensive metrics in 2020/21 and 2019/20. Hughes has a higher GSVA in each of the last 4 seasons though
Hughes has more points in less career games and has been better defensively than Dahlin. If you don’t have Hughes in your top 10 how can you have Dahlin?

Top 10 Defensemen
Dougie Hamilton had a better WAR, better xWAR, better G+/- RAPM, more points (by 47!), a better 5v5 goal differential, a better relTM G+/- (Slavin was actually negative), a better gamescore, and a better GSVA.
The single net-metric in which Slavin grades out better than Hamilton is expected goals.

a big trade to go for it this year
RNH flexes his NMC, so you can take him out.
Ullmark likely has Edmonton on his NTL so you can take him out.
Bruins have no use for Campbell with Ullmark saying no to EDM so you can take him out.
Ya this ones pretty much nuked from both sides.

Yup, Laughton would be 4C in Edmonton. But he'd be a poor one: his faceoff numbers are subpar, his scoring rate is poor and his PK metrics are worse.
With his $3M x 3 contract I wouldn't take him for free let alone adding Broberg + Foegele + Lavoie!!

The bargain that is Leon Draisaitl at $8.5 million a season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wilson_W_Wilson_Jr</b></div><div>Edmonton needs a cup this year or next. This two year window is the calm before the storm. Leon Draisaitl is the league bargain of all bargains, $8.5 million a season for the next two years. With his next contract potentially in the neighborhood of $12-$12.5 million a season. Is anything off the table in Edmonton to make sure this team wins it all this year or next?</div></div>
The cap is going up by an estimated $4.5M next year and could be over $90M by the time Leon's next contract kicks in. With most of the core players locked up well beyond that, there's no additional urgency to win during Leon's current contract.
FYI Draisaitl's current deal was 11.33% of the cap when it was signed. A potential $12M deal would be 13.33% of a $90M cap, so not debilitating in the least. Especially if McDavid takes a discount again.

I think you could return a 3rd without the extra 7th imo, MTL isn't the spot for him but he's not awful. 2.75 is a bit rich for his services though, and the extra term behind it might ward off some potentially interested parties.

I assume this assumes that Campbell will have a similar or worse year to his season last year. In that case, I'd rather just buyout Campbell and keep the 1st, 2nd, and 6th. Those assets are FAR better spent improving other areas of the roster or helping secure a more sustained period of success.

LOL, Foegele scored at a higher rate than Hall for less than half the cap hit.

I don't think they'd necessarily have to pay. They'd maybe have to pay if a team has little space left and they don't need him. But Foegele was great in the bottom 6 for the Oilers and posted some good defensive numbers.
That being said Nashville has to pass. We have enough guys like that

He is driving play at 5v5, I think his scoring rate was 1.19 P/60 with McDavid and 1.23 without. Within the noise.
On the PP obviously McDavid and Draisaitl drive the play, but it's worth noting that the PP was significantly better in the last 20 games and the playoffs when Bouchard took over from Barrie. And it was historic with Barrie.
