That defence is weaker without Chabot. Taking his cap hit and spending it on Boeser who wont have much success on a 3rd line doesnt make the team better imo

The offseason is nearing a close and they havent been traded. Now theres barely any teams that have the capspace and would be a good fit. I imagine Winnipeg is going to go for it and see what they have. If they do make trades at the deadline to go into a rebuild, it's valuable to have a middle six winger on an expiring contract like Kubalik. If he puts up 40-50 points this season, he's easily a 2nd round pick + at the deadline esp if retained. Right now this trade helps them improve their team but also gives them more assets to trade to start the rebuild.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>Honestly, I think the Jets are going to be better than many think. What they have this year what they haven't had in 5 is a 3rd line that can produce.
Mind you, I think Barron is part of that plan, so yeah.... they pass.</div></div>
Do you think Ottawa would have to add or they would have no interest in Kubalik? Seems like a good trade for Winnipeg imo they get the better player and the better deadline trade asset.

I wouldn't squander another 2 picks including a quality one. But at the same time, I am not a genius like Pierre Dorion
I am trading Kubalik for a pick instead, no brainer (because I can't use my brain as well as the genius Pierre)</div></div>
I'd rather move Kubalik as well, even if its for future considerations. If that's not possible, I take this.

Branny is way more vital to this team than Kubalik or Joseph. When we inevitably have injuries he can play top 4.

Norris plays a very difficult role against top competition and regularly shuts them down. Chytil plays a sheltered role and you can see his teammates percentile is higher.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan98</b></div><div>Chytil doesn't get the chance to play PP1 unlike Norris in OTT... That 35 goal season's an outlier compared to 3 points in 8 game and 17 goals in 56 games while being 24 years old and Boucher's a meh prospect... Ott gets younger, saves 4 mill in cap space where they can turn around and sign 2 of Kane/Tatar/Pinto and they don't give up much to be desired... Chytil will excel when he finally isn't stuck to 3rd line and stuck either not on the PP or PP2 as the 2nd/3rd/4rth option
Rangers don't do this</div></div>
Norris scored 17 goals in 56 games (25 goal pace) as a 21 year old rookie. Chytil had 8 goals in 42 games at that age in his 3rd full season in the league.
Norris' 35 goals in 66 games season literally represents 50% of his NHL career thus far, but you think that we should go off the season he played 8 games due to injury :tearsofjoy
I like Chytil but he's coming off a season with 61.2% o-zone starts and a PDO of 103.4. He's playing in a favourable role just like Norris.
Both players will get better but one is very very clearly and obviously the better player right now, despite missing a year, and has more potential.

A former 35 goal scorer signed longterm for a 3C that put up 45 points (albeit has potential) ALONG with our most recent 1st round pick because it saves cap space? :tearsofjoy
There are way better to save the $1m in cap space we need. Also they're literally 4 months apart in age lmao

One of them won rookie of the year in the AHL and put up 35 goals in 66 games as a 22 year old in the NHL. Chytil putting up 45 points is not impressive. Ottawa easily declines. We can save cap in another way.

That’s assuming either of those guys make the team out of camp. Neither is likely better than Kubalik at this point. If Bemstrom doesn’t have a roster spot anyways, what’s the downside of a move like this to upgrade?

In a vacuum I agree, however given the cap crunch Joseph will take a 2nd round pick at minimum to move. It's better not to trade away assets needlessly.
Joseph is better than kubalik in a lot of ways. He has been a better 5v5 producer. He is great defensively and on the penalty kill.
We have no room on our powerplays for Kubalik. We need more pk forwards.

Stutzle put up 90 in his D+3 year while Marner finally hit 94 in his D+4 years. I would not be surprised if Stutzle has more points but it'll definitely be close.

is this how ltir works
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AnonymousSensFan</b></div><div>The way LTIR works is that in order to benefit, you need to be able to fit the players salary before they are on LTIR.
So, for example, let's say Joseph goes on LTIR, Sens would be allowed to exceed the cap by an amount up to his AAV (I say up to because there's a formula, it's not necessarily the full amount), but that cap also counts Joseph. You don't suddenly they 6M of cap space. You get up to an extra 3M, while still counting Joseph's.
If you're up against the cap, or over, and trade for an LTIR contract, you don't get to ignore their cap hit and then also get relief up to that amount, that would be double dipping. Carey Price would be worth more than when he was still playing.
It's basically a "Let's pretend this player and their cap hit doesn't exist" when counting against the cap.</div></div>
Makes sense. Thank you!
