Next year
Interesting proposal with Karlsson for Tavares, then retaining and flipping Tavares (2 yrs less to retain on).
Leafs might actually do this as well.
Problem is I doubt Tavares waives NMC to leave TO.

Not sure I agree that Timmins has leap frogged Benn on the depth chart - especially come playoff time when they'll be looking for Benn's heavier game.
I do agree they will probably lose him if they put him on waivers, which would be a shame. But I think if that's the risk you have to take to swing for the fences with ROR & Tarasenko, it's worth it.
Losing TImmins is not ideal, but it shouldn't hurt all that much with guys like Holloway, Mete, etc. in the pipeline.
Plus, there's always injuries, so you may not even need to waive him if there are guys on LTIR during the season. (And there's no cap once playoffs start).

Ya, you're probably right... I originally thought he only had a 10-team no trade, but that doesn't kick in until July 1 2023. Until then it's a full no-trade.
I guess you could try to appeal to his huge love of golf to sell Arizona as a destination? :p

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>2 cap dumps and some spare parts don’t net Chych</div></div>
Kerfoot is definitely not a cap dump - especially given his real dollars next year are only $750k (even his actual cap hit is still completely reasonable for a player of his profile).
He is a very versatile, valuable player to a team like Arizona next season with that contract.
Muzzin may be a bit overpaid at this point in his career, but for the actual dollars Arizona will pay ($2M this coming season, $4M the season after), he's also not a cap dump.
The only real Cap dump in the proposed trade is Mrazak.
And don't forget, Arizona still needs to ADD almost $28M in cap hit just to reach the cap floor next season.
Also Nick Robertson + 1st rounder are definitely not "spare parts".

He's suspended until Oct for a positive PED doping test.
(Accepted by the governing body that it was accidental, from an improperly labelled supplement, but suspended anyway).
He'll be looking to prove himself / rehab his image with the Marlies in the Leafs organization.
Leafs org has recent history of this type of career rehabilitation signings (Ho-Sang, Galchenyuk, etc.)

JT Miller - top 6 LW upgrade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Lol, classic leafs fans trade. Why would Vancouver trade Miller and take back multiyear cap dumps?</div></div>
Because more than half the league is at or above (LTIR) the cap, so if they are going to get anything of value (i,e, 1st, 2nd, +), they are going to have to take salary back from someone.
Miller also still has a year left, so any team trading for him would need space clear for next year too.

Lineup Idea For Next Game
I like this top 6... at least just to shake things up for now.
I'd switch Engvall and Kampf in the bottom six tho, shifting Kerfoot to Kampf's LW on the 3rd.
Let Ritchie try to get some mojo back by mixing it up with Simmonds.
Let them to go out and get some hits and try to create some havoc
Engvall in the middle between them to provide some wheels on that line.
Also, big "No" to Liljegren in your top 4.
He hasn't shown nearly enough defensive awareness at this level to be trusted in tough top 4 minutes.

Offer Sheet
I like this only IF Haula is signed first.
Losing Kerfoot without a replacement 3C leaves the Leafs incredibly thin down the middle.
(41 y/o Thornton and 27 y/o Spezza at 3C and 4C is a recipe for disaster, especially in a condensed season).
If you can replace Kerfoot with Haula at $2m+ cheaper, then get rid of Kerfoot and Holl without taking salary back, then ya, go on and upgrade 2RD!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>themostleaf33</b></div><div>Anderson gets 800k imo. Mikheyev likely gets 1.5-2 mill due to Arbitration. I think Dermott gets 2 years at 1.5 mill as well. Fine with the Brassard signing but if they do sign a 3C I'm assuming Engvall+Kerfoot are out the door and Mikheyev plays top 6. Barbanov and Vesey are also projected to be 3rd line players for the leafs (one of them 3rd line one of them 4th line), especially if Robertson does not make the opening night roster.</div></div>
Mikheyev is a wildcard with arbitration, but word is he doesn't really have a strong arbitration case, as arbitration is all about comparables, and he's only played 39 NHL games.
There's no precedent for such an inexperienced RFA getting such a salary bump.
Dermott really has no leverage with no Arb rights in a weaker market.
I could really see Kerfoot fitting well alongside Matthews (I think he's a better W than C), but still gives the opportunity to slide back to C for injuries/shakeups.
It allows Hyman-Tavares-Marner line to be reunited.
The bottom 6 would be a competition all season... Vesey, Barabanov, Engvall, Spezza, Robertson, Boyd, Anderson all battle for spots at the bottom of the lineup and to be injury callups.
Solid depth will be needed in a condensed season.

Martinez has played plenty of RD throughout his career.

But the Leafs' Nylander rumors tend to be about breaking up his cap hit to cover several spots and/or add some expansion-proof youth, right? What would a Nylander to WSH trade look like to you?</div></div>
There really isn't a conceivable Nylander to WSH trade that makes sense.
The only way the Leafs deal Nylander is for a can't miss top-4 RD of similar(ish) age with term/control.
WSH doesn't have that to give, so a deal around Nylander doesn't work.

Players and their agents try to use those 10-team lists as strategic as possible to gain as much control as possible over the situation.
Maybe he doesn't think there is a high chance of being dealt to OTT, so didn't include them in the 10?
That's what happened with Staal to BUF. He wouldn't have chosen to go there.

Pietrangelo with minimal moves
This team is $3M over the cap and the contracts for Cousins and Stephenson are probably way too low.
Evolving Hockey projects Cousins around $3m and Stephenson around $2.4M... Flat cap and Vegas' cap situation will probably push those down a bit, but not all the way to $1 & $1.5
