The Ranger front office has been screwing things up for decades. Covid had an affect for sure, but some of the awful contracts on the Ranger roster were signed before covid. And it is also true that the Rangers are not the only franchise in this position. we are where we are' Let the open-heart surgery begin.

First order of business in retaining Laffy and K'Andre. It is not a certainty that both will still be here for the 23-24 campaign. But I will assume the Rangers find a wat to retain both with three-year bridge deals.

First Goodrow. I see no interest around the league for Barclay. A buyout makes more sense next year.

Trouba's next. Worst case a buyout but attempt a trade first. Key lineup moves Laffy - Mika - Kappo 1st line Kreider to 3LW if Laffy doesn't cut, move Kreider to LW1 and Laffy to LW3. Re-up Lindgren, Schneider and Kakko. Miller LD1 Foc RD1 Lindgren LD2 Schneider RD2.

25-26 Re-up Igor at $9.5M (projected mx the Rangers can afford. Trade Panarin (you can't pay Igor right unless you do. Options: Trade first, Taxi Squad second. Breadman's contract is so bad, NYR gets more CAP reduction that way than with a buyout.

First, Thanks for the feedback. I was conservative with the second rounder. The consensus I've received here and in several other threads suggests a first rounder is more likely, particular if multiple teams are suitors. Now Dach for Laffy straight up would require some additional comp to the Rangers since Laffy has more upside potential. Add the 1st rounder, and I think that's got the makings of a deal. If the Habs want to give us another player, I won't object.

Let's just agree that we disagree. They are horrendous with him. Why, his contract. Add Trouba's and Goodrow's as well. I could even make a case for Fox (too much, too soon). These contract's put the Rangers in a real bind year after year. Because of them they can't retain Copp, Vatrano, Motte, Taresenko ..................

I don't represent the fanbase, and neither do you. I think for myself, which means I don't always go along with the crowd. If the Rangers insist on retaining this overpriced collection of beef, no cup for the next three years, and a least 5 more after that. Perhaps we will be on the same page the next time.

No. It about his CAP hit and his lack of defense mostly. I have been a Ranger fan for 65+ years, and I mention this because over that time span the best Ranger teams were the Hatfield, Ratelle, and Gilbert, the greatest line the Rangers have put on the ice in my lifetime. Ed Giacomin in goal. You will find their jerseys up in the Garden rafters. But they couldn't win a cup. Reason, lack of grit. The other was the team I referred to in my previous post.

And the current Ranger team lacks grit. Don't tell me about Trouba or Fox, or Lindgren. I could make the same case about Fox at playoff time as I did with the Breadman come playoff time. And he like Artemi, is great playmaker, no question. I'm more in the Gallant camp, give me big D-men that can play D. The Montréal pair of Larry Robinson and Serge Savard immediately come to mind. Big, solid D-men could play it anyway you wanted to. And when they dropped the gloves, they got the job done. They were part of the 4 consecutive cup teams of the late 1970's.

If you watched the recent Stanley Cup final, this is exactly what Vegas did to Florida. Moved em' off and moved em' on. Every cup winner over the past 65 years has always had grit and strong D. Fox and Lindgren do not move em' off and moved em' on.

He's got three years left on his contract, and there will be no Cup during that time. Guaranteed. The Rangers we'll be even longer in the tooth by then. They need to start transitioning, the sooner the better. Off loading the awful contract of Artemi, Trouba and Goodrow are a good place to start. I don't know how old you are, but that is what they did in 1994, there Cup year when they trade Mike Gartner, a career 700+ goal scorer. Mark Messier and Coach Mike Keenan where the architects of that move. More grit was required, and they brought in some bruisers. The New York Oiler-Hawks. I'm sure if you were around back then, you would be telling Mess the same thing you're telling me now.

BTW - Mike Gartner never played on a cup winner, and neither will the Breadman. Look it up!!!

I was waiting for your response. I would have gotten back to you sooner, but I was responding to several others re: my Laffy trade proposal for a 2nd rounder. Certainly, more if we can get it. And that wouldn't be my opening position. What do you think we could get for Laffy's signing rights? Look forward to hear from you on this question. Best Regards!

First, I want to state for the record that I respect the fact that you provided a specific response to my previous post. That's more or less what I was looking for. Second, I hope we can keep both K'Andre and Laffy. I think Laffy is on the verge, but I want to see it.

I have one or two other posts on this subject. The responses I've been receiving are split about 50-50 between something along the lines that your proposing and that I am proposing. I think you're a bit optimistic, but in the end it's all speculation anyway. I happy with yours is the best case for sure, and mine being the worst case. The truth, as it often does, lies somewhere in between. In support of my position, I will note that Laffy's draft year did not provide the strongest list of candidates. He hasn't developed like Eichel or Hischier ......... I don't know if there are enough interested teams out there to get a bidding war going, but if that were the case, I the possibility of a 1st rounder certainly increases.

Goodrow: I have to share with you the prevailing sentiment amongst Ranger fans that I have seen is lose to Barclay, the sooner the better. And I am in this camp. The problem is there is absolutely, and I mean absolutely no interest in this CAP dump. Anaheim maybe, so they break the CAP floor. Even this is unlikely. In addition, there are many who believe he isn't going anywhere. The only other option is a buyout, which makes a lot more sense to do next year. I think the Goodrow scenario you propose is the worst-case scenario. I'm not even sure it works when you put pencil to paper. Perhaps we will be more simpatico on the next one!

P.S.

We are 10 days into free agency and both Laffy and K'Andre have not re-upped. The public sentiment expressed by both players and Ranger management (the Lovefest) is genuine, but it is also for public consumption as well. If this weren't the case, both would be in the fold by now.

Business is business. The players would be foolish not to entertain counteroffers, and Ranger management would be foolish not to gauge the interest in these players, just in case. As a hypothetical, if Laffy were offered $5M for a bridge deal, or a bit more for a long-term deal, do you really think he wouldn't love the team making the offer a bit more than the Rangers. Ditto for K'Andre, just different numbers.

My concern, and what is the whole point of the exercise is: what if the Rangers find themselves back into a corner with no options and they have to choose between Laffy and K'Andre for real. Stated another way, you are in a dark alley and three guys are getting ready to rearrange your cranial region, who do you hit first? For me it would be the biggest guy.
