2025 hawks
This roster isn't any better than what the Hawks have now. Addison is a huge downgrade from Murphy. That 2nd D pair might set a record for worst +/- ever! Stauber is no better than Soderblom. The only trade that's realistic is Blackwell for a 5th. That return on Murphy is terrible. Nobody is paying a 1st and a 2nd for Reichel and Raddysh.

playoffs
Hawks aren't taking this direction, that has been clear from Kyle Davidson in recent interviews. Nor is Schmaltz, who can't stay healthy, worth that. Great when on the ice, but hasn't played a full season in 7 years.

Way to sell him on the Hawks fans here. Hawks would be more likely to use picks at draft to trade up to get the player they covet.

Hawks decline. Reaves costs that 3rd just to dump. No chance the Leafs get either Katchouk or Megna, let alone both.

Very unlikely. Would be different if he fills an open space on the roster and there is a chance to play him every game, boost his value and flip him at the deadline with 50% retention but in this case, the last thing we need is another LHD guy

Hawks pass. They aren't taking a $6M cap hit for a 4th and 2nd at a position they already have a logjam of young players and prospects

Right. He's asking for our best young defenseman AND a 3rd for a sack of beans.

lol. Cool then, keep him. I don't know why you are so upset about this and why you and so many other people refuse to see trades from CHI's perspective. What point is there to CHI going for short term improvements and buying veterans that have no place in CHI's future? Good or not, we have no need for Orlov. He would just create an unnecessary road block for our young LHD. Even if he would be our "best dman," we would be arbitrarily improving our position in the standings for someone that isn't going to be here long term, while also giving up valuable draft capital. If you don't see how that makes zero sense for CHI, I don't know what to tell you.

Carolina Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Right, because they have done so well in the NHL this year. The Hawks still need to ice a watchable product, which they haven't been. Orlov, who can play both sides, once again, instantly becomes not only the Hawks best defenseman, but a deadline trade chip. Saying "they need the slot for the young guys" just doesn't make sense. Even rebuilding teams need veterans.</div></div>
Probably a much better move for the Hawks to use that $7.7m in cap space for a vet RW to play on Bedard's line...

Great defensively is overreaching. He's done better defensively but he's hardly great.

If the Hawks are even willing to pay what's likely an early 3rd for Kuzmenko, there's no way they include Crevier too. Crevier is looking like a steal as a 7th rounder, and Hawks aren't trading away one of the two RD prospects they have.

Hawks decline. They aren't paying anything for Schmidt. They can fill their need for a 3rd pair RD without trading away a pick. Jets pay at least a 2nd or a 3rd to move Schmidt to the Hawks.

I agree, that is a very fair offer for a guy the Hawks grabbed off the scrap heap a few weeks ago but Megna’s play so far may have bought him an additional year in Chicago. I could see Davidson extending him for next season since he seems to have by-passed Tinordi.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dave26</b></div><div>His buyout this summer is not even that bad. So I doubt it’ll cost as much as people think. I would be comfortable with a first and a prospect like Broberg who probably needs a change on scenery. With the cap going up finally that buyout number won’t be constricting. And I’m a Flames fan so helping the Oilers is not my thing.</div></div>
That is not correct. His buyout this summer only comes with a savings of $4.5M and still costs a total of $9M and would be spread out over double the term. Maybe if he were at least a serviceable backup, EDM could get away with one 1st round pick to dump him, but he can't even hold his own in the AHL. If EDM wants to dump him, two 1sts is the bare minimum.

So sign a LD that doesn't fill a need and surround him with the exact same roster as this season? That's quite a plan! Hawks won't be in on Hanifin. Or like 10 of the other guys you re-signed either.

Hawks must sign Hanifin
Hanafin is a very good LD, but it makes zero sense for CHI to sign him. We have too much depth at LD as it is, and we likely already have our future top two LD within that group of young LD. Vlasic, Korchinski, Phillips, Del Mastro, Kaiser, Allan, Roos, and more that haven't even received their ELC's yet.
