<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kous</b></div><div>Explain why that would not make sense for Nashville?</div></div>

If NSH wanted to go all in for next season, and saw Marner as the rental they needed to do that, it doesn't make sense for them to trade Saros for him. As talented as Askarov is, he just doesn't have the NHL experience yet to be the guy you bank on in that scenario.

Trading for Marner and re-signing him doesn't make a lot of sense for NSH either. RW isn't a big enough need. Nyquist was a top 40 scorer this year, for a fraction of what Marner makes. Evangelista is coming into his own as a top six RW. There's great depth at the position coming up too (Kemell, Tomasino, Wood, Kiiskinen, Fink). NSH has bigger needs that Marner doesn't address (C and RD, mainly).

Even if NSH did want to add a top line RW, meeting whatever price TOR wants for Marner wouldn't be my first move. I'd look at signing a UFA like Reinhart first. He's a better goal scorer, could come at a lower cap hit, and wouldn't cost any assets. If not Reinhart, they could look at other UFA wingers like Marchesseault. Or Guentzel. Maybe an older guy like Pavelski, on a 1-2 year deal. There are multiple UFA options this summer, that don't require send a haul to TOR, for a guy who'll be looking for a raise on an already top of the market salary.

Conversely, if TOR wants to upgrade their goaltending there aren't any worthwhile UFA starters out there. They'll have to trade for one, and they'd likely have some competition. NJ and LA are in the market for a goalie. Like the Leafs, the Canes, Avs and the Oilers are teams that are in the middle of their windows, but we've seen substandard goaltending dragging them down too.

Personally, I think a three way trade with NSH, TOR and UTA, with Saros, Marner and 6OA as the biggest piece from each team makes a lot of sense. TOR gets their goalie, and gets to free up a ton of cap space from moving on from Marner. UTA gets a recognizable star to be the face of their franchise, and they've got so many prospects and picks from the past few years of tanking, that they won't feel the lose of one high pick. NSH gets a chance to move up at the draft, like they tried to do last year, to finally be in a position to draft the top line center they need more than anything else. Other pieces would be involved of course. NSH especially would need to send more to one/both teams, but I think the basis of the trade makes sense for all three teams.
