could be but thats just another problem to deal with next summer. Re-sign him or let him go??? BOS should take advantage of the value he has. Stud should be ready to break out next season anyway and I trust coyle at 2C. Who knows maybe stud could even take 2C

Everyone’s gonna laugh at me for this, but I’d rather have Toews than Krug. Toews is the perfect defenseman for a speedy and cap conscious era.

I’d rather have toews because he’s 25 and hasn’t hit his prime yet. It’s the perfect age to lock up a top 4 defenseman. You don’t have to deal with his age 34+ seasons.

Debrusk gets 2 yr bridge 2.5-3. Studnicka takes 3C. If Bjork and Seny continue to develop Coyle might not be needed.
I still maintain if they re-sign Krug Grizz gets traded. They’d lose him the expansion draft anyway.

Gonna need more PP time to get 50. He has zero points in 12 min on PP, in 19 GP; that's under 40 seconds per game on average.
For reference, only 2 defenesmen have had 50+ pts at even strength in a season in the past 3 seasons - Burns (2x) and Rielly.

Ya, he’s not getting 5m. Colin Miller got 4y 3.875m. Pretty solid comparison.

If that’s what he was! He’s been McAvoys partner frequently this year. 5 on 5, he’s flat out better than Krug, and the Bruins use him as such. He played 23 minutes in their last game. His minutes are hurt because of the luxury of having Chara and Krug on the left side, but watching his usage, it’s pretty clear to me that Cassidy trusts him 5 on 5 more than Krug, and respects his mobility more than Chara’s.
I’m not a fancy stat guy, I think they’re really stupid for d men, but people seem to take them as gospel. Last year, Grzelcyks were off the charts (I think it’s a pretty good reason to say that advanced stats are BS for d men, because a lot of the fancy numbers had grizz as a top ten d man in the league when it came to entries and exits)

Do not like this.
Casey is the heart and soul of the team. I would move Nelson before Casey.
As others are saying, no interest in Krug.
If Sorokin comes over he will be the backup, or Greiss is re-signed for 1 year. Ryan Miller will not come to Long Island.
Drouin would be benched by Trotz, he does not fit the system at all and should not be a target for this team.
That is an overpay for haula, and at no time should Leo be looked as a long term option at center.
Next years roster will more likely be:
Lee-Barzal- Eberle
Beau-Nelson-Wahlstrom
Dal Colle/Bellows-Koivula-Bailey
Komarov-Casey-Clutterbuck
Johnston/Martin
Pelech-Pulock
Toews-Mayfield
Dobson-Boychuck
Aho
Varlamov
Greiss/Sorokin
Leddy being traded for picks.

Pretty much every team will have to give him a massive overpay, Probably in the $8 million to $9 million per range for 7 years. Probably close to the Roman Josi deal i would suspect.

Well, let’s see. I don’t think it’s too much of an issue. First off, bump up the Grzelcyk offer by 2 million. So now, that’s 2.5 over the cap if it is 83.5. It could easily be more. Step 1. Probably like a .1% chance they re-sign miller, and a 0% chance they sign him to a raise. So, erase that 3 million, because Clifton is probably better anyhow. So, you’re already done. That’s cap compliant if you’re buying out David Backes. Personally, I think there’s a pretty good chance Backes is done with hockey. He’s had so many freaking concussions, and it seems like he’s suffering from one right now. He hasn’t touched the ice in 2 weeks. I think there’s an extremely good chance he’s on LTIR for next season. So, that would be another 4 million saved there. If things don’t work out, bridge Debrusk (probably do that anyway, because i doubt he takes 7x5).
So, they should be fine, and that’s even factoring in that you probably have to offer more for a couple of the players you signed, mainly grzelcyk.

Krug will be 29 in the 1st year of his new deal, But i got what you mean. And i'm pretty sure he wouldn't sign with the Islanders anyways.

I agree buuut... US hockey tried adding grit into one of there teams and it ended very bad, Olympics and World Cup of Hockey/National Games are normally a lot more about skill and speed than a balanced roster.

Yes. DL is a very good GM sucked to see him leave. But until Blake makes a Chirelli type move (trade seguin and Hall for next to nothing) can’t say he is terrible just yet.

I think Kovalchuk even at 36 will provide similar production to Galchenyuk and at 50% retained, it saves us having to dish out 6+ for an underperforming Galchenyuk.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gokingsgo33</b></div><div>Well in Free Agency you almost have to overpay to get a player like that bc there are multiple other teams competing to get him.
Maybe he likes the LA lifestyle? LA actually has a lot of pull when it comes to free agents bc its LA lol. Regardless of how bad we are.
Also what winning team has an additional 8.5M to spend on a dman that is in the market for a player like that?
Do you think Boston will be able to afford to resign him if he wants that kind of money?</div></div>
Yes. I also think if 8.5 is his price tag in LA, it’s probably much lower in boston. In terms of after tax earnings, 8.5 in LA is about the same as 7 in Boston. Factor in that they can give him the extra year, and they have a winning team where he and his family already live, and I think it’s probably more like 9 to get him to go to LA, if Boston won’t go to 7.
