Realistic offseason with some tiptoeing IMO
What a fantastic write up! Very creative. I like your ideas, especially Ladd and the expansion. Bang on with the goalies.
However, Lou tends to pay his players well. My UFA/RFA numbers are a bit different. I think Pelech gets closer to 5, say 4.75mill per. I think Bea gets closer to 4, say 3.5ish. Zeeker, even with a hometown discount will get more. I actually think Lou will offer him 4 mill per. I've got Sorokin at 3.5mill per. I think we all like what Palmeri has brought, but I don't think Lou can pull it off.

You are right. This is why I dont think Isles can or will get Hall.

I agree. I couldn't fit Wahlstrom on the roster for cap reasons. I don't think Lou will risk sending Zajac to taxi squad for fear of losing him on waivers. I am not sure when roster limits are removed (deadline or playoffs), but I don't Wahlstrom sitting too long here.

I was drawing up a similar trade. Is Buffalo more interested in maximizing Halls' return (1st rounder) or would they prefer a deal where they didn't have to retain any salary (cheap owner)? I still think a team (toronto, colorado, boston) might offer a first round pick. I don't think Lou will hand another one out this deadline. But, if Lou can offer a deal with no/less salary retention, he might be competitive. If there was a way to include Komarov in the package so Buffalo doesn't have to retain so much salary, that might work. In my similar trade, I also included Bolduc and the second pick is conditional - if Isles make SCF, it becomes a first. Steep price though.

Agree. He was good with Leddy in the playoffs. Maybe put them back together? Also, Mayfield's deficiencies are becoming apparent without Toews around. I wonder if they breakup the Pelly-Pulock to balance things out. I thought I saw Pelly on with Dobson a couple times at even strength last night. Anyway, I think the Isles need to find something on the trade market soon.

Reinhart
I like the idea of getting Reinhart, but Buffalo is going to want a legit NHL player, young and under team control (in addition to a pick and a prospect (Holmstrom). I get that Leddy is a legit NHLer, but he is UFA soon. I don't want to do it but I think you take out Ishakov and on of the picks and replace it with either Beau or Wahlstrom.

Next year
Although I think Dermott is a little over rated by the Leafs media, this trade works well for the Isles. Dermott has 3 or so years of team control, plus he adds depth to a D core that needs another guy that can actually play and develop some more. Dal Colle is actually a good bottom sixer who is physical, battles hard but with zero offensive upside (he has a hard shot but doesn't have the hockey IQ to create opportunities for him or his linemates).

On paper, this seems like a win for the Islanders. However, believe it or not, I think they are in a "win now" mode and this trade doesn't help them today, but more down the road. Interesting trade though.

Thought of something
As much as the Isles want to get rid of Komarov and his contract, this trade doesn't work for a couple reasons.
Trading essentially two first round picks for a Connor Murphy, a top 4 defenseman, does not make sense after they were forced to trade a solid, home grown top 4 defenseman in Devon Toews for two second round picks. Poor asset management.
I understand by including Komorav as a cap dump the price will go up, but this is too high.
The Isles are solid on the right side with Pulock and Dobson. I'm not sure adding another RD is the "shake up" they need. Mayfield has value in his role, #4 Dman, stay at home guy and solid PKer.

Jost is a solid defensive minded 3C and graves is nothing special (more of a 3rd pairing D IMO) . If the isles were to trade sorokin (highly unlikely) they should get a young top 6 forward in return</div></div>
I agree with you. They can get more in a trade with Sorokin. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt for the reasons you mentioned above. Better to save judgement after more time with Mitch and Piero. Also, the Isles haven't played like they usually do. In fact, they have been pretty bad in front of him.

I feel like that is too much for Palmeri with an extension. I'd say maybe just Wahlstrom (no pick) or Bellows and a second Rd pick.
