Getting Better

I'm guessing I'm the "wild fan" he's referring to and yes, that was my initial thought process as well. HOWEVER, if we don't plan on being serious contenders next year (which we shouldn't imo), we may as well trade him this offseason. He fills a need for us and is a great all-around player but what's the point of keeping him when he'd be better served playing for a true contender?

Minnesota would gladly accept that.....if we weren't broke af. To give you an idea on how little cap space we have, here's an ACGM illustrating our current predicament.

playoff team
Minnesota declines as we are overwhelmed with undersized defensemen on both our roster and within our system. Seriously, just look at the munchkins that compose our D core. Middleton is our only large defensemen. Merrill may be 6'3" but he's light as a feather.

To clarify with what others have wrote, MIN declines because we traded our bridge goalie (Kahkonen) + a '22 5th for him -- which was an overpayment at the time (circa 2022 TDL) -- because that's how badly we needed size in our D core. To this day, he's our only defensemen with size. He's also our only physical defensemen that can play top 4 minutes (after losing Dumba). So in all, he's not available because he addresses a need of ours and cannot be replaced by anyone currently on our roster/system.

Minnesota considers. We'd say yes in a heartbeat if it weren't for our abysmal cap situation. The priority is to sign Gustavsson. His AAV will dictate what we'll be able to accomplish this offseason.

Minnesota declines due to lack of cap space. To give you an idea on how bad it is, we really don't know how we'll be able to field a full team next season even with a bunch of ELC and low wage players. We have over $14.7M in dead cap that can't be traded or magically erased. Everyone else on our roster either (a) has a NMC/NTC, (b) refuses to leave & can't be dealt (MAF), or (c) may get traded but the return will be so underwhelming that it isn't really worth it.

Oh, I'm well aware. Almost any other team can easily beat this offer. I think it'd be sick for Rossi and Addison to be given a shot in Arizona or some team where the pressure will be far less. Mainly, I just couldn't help myself thinking about what it would be like to have both Michkov AND Yager. Realism be damned.

That's fair. I pondered whether I should make the trade in the first place since it's not a major priority of mine. Consider it a toss in.

Sounds good. I've seen numerous ACGMs with DET fans accepting this trade so I figured I'd continue with the status quo.

Probably not. I chose BUF because I had read numerous posts from BUF fans complaining about the team's lack of "grit". Duhaime has that in abundance ergo the trade. This is more about trading Duhaime than it is about making a trade with BUF.

23-24 Re-signings per Evolving-Hockey
Personally, I'd trade Duhaime as he doesn't fit into the 1-2 year "retool" I'd like the Wild to go through. As for Reaves, it doesn't sound like we'll be able to re-sign him given that he admitted he wants to “squeeze every dollar” out of his next contract — maybe his last — and wants more than a one-year term. That opens up 2 spots for Walker and Rossi to fill. The lines would then look something like:
Kaprizov - Hartman - Zucc
Johansson - JEEK - Boldy
Gaudreau - Rossi - Beckman
Foligno - Dewar - Walker
That being said, we'll probably want to sign a veteran F and have Rossi play in the AHL for the first half of the season until he develops some grit to his game. If he doesn't, we might as well trade him since Evason will never play a player that lacks grit.

Couple points to note:
a. Dallas isn't my primary team. I just like how they are built. So forgive any extensions to players that aren't deserving of one. I appreciate the feedback.
b. I'm more interested in personnel than payroll. Pavelski will probably demand more; however, I'm not interested in the exact figure. Just whether he (and others) will be on the team for the foreseeable future.

Honestly, I'm first trying to gauge which teams would be interested in his services so I don't waste folks' time. After that, I see Addison being used primarily as a chip to help us trade up in the draft.

Wild right before cap hell ends

Quoting: Jeffrey4649

I've heard Yurov hasn't signed for 2023-24 in the KHL meaning he could be here to play in Iowa next fall. Ohgren is signed to play in the SEL next year but after that should be here ready for full time NHL action. Khusnutdinov should be NHL ready when he arrives in the fall of 2024.

Yurov signed a 1-year deal with his KHL team after they replaced their coaching staff. However, it's interesting he opted for the non-traditional 1-year term vs. the normal 2-year. Probably has something to do with his desire to play with Kaprizov and the time is ticking with the latter's contract and all. Öhgren will probably play a year in Iowa after next season since he likely won't receive huge minutes in the SHL (still decent minutes tho). The key for him is consistency. Khusnutdinov will be NHL ready for sure tho. He's already played like 139 KHL games.

Wild right before cap hell ends
Exactly! We just need to suffer through next season. After that, our cap opens up with Zucc + MAF + Foligno + Hartman + Goligoski all coming off the books. We'll be able to bring a good chunk of them back on team-friendly deals if need be, which is nice. Some other notes, there's no way in hell I'd spend that much on Duhaime and Dewar. Both are barely above min. wage players. Also, don't forget about Beckman, Walker, and Spacek. I could see them supplant Öhgren, Yurov, & Hunt, respectively, for the 2024-25 season. We'll probably want Öhgren and Yurov to spend some time in the AHL before being called up.

MAF says no. He's tired of moving and stated just yesterday that he plans on playing his final season in Minny. Guerin agrees so he's staying -- much to the chagrin of some Wild fans. Foligno stays since he's a locker room guy. Maybe he gets traded but I haven't heard of any rumors. We're more focused on trading Addison and possibly Goligoski. As well as, resigning Gus.

Minnesota Wild signed Marcus Johansson (2 Years / $2,000,000 AAV)
I agree that this is a good value contract; however, I'm a little disappointed that this means fewer opportunities / playing time for players like Beckman and Walker. I think this contract will be a win iff it helps Boldy continue to develop into a superstar. If MoJo adds some consistency to his scoring touch then this will be a big W. We still rely way too much on Kaprizov & Boldy to drive the offense against tougher competition or down stretches.

6. Zucc
