4m for cirelli isn't going to happen. he'll use point's 2019 extension as a comparable and angle for a 6-7m deal. i suspect he will also be perfectly happy to hold out during the second COVID season if they don't give him the money he wants.

Can Tampa match this
they can, but they'd have to move on from cirelli or point. which might not be a bad thing--those two players also have a ton of value and could bring back more than a 1st and a 3rd.

Getting Depth And a Goalie
that blues trade is actually bad for both teams. very impressive.
blues lose a ton of value losing binnington after a regress-to-the-mean season and a bad bubble performance, especially since there's only one season on his contract. on top of that, the return is a single third-line forward that will be exposed in expansion, a #4 RD on their depth chart, an absolute nothing prospect, and two nothing picks. leaves STL with no backup plan in net.
edmonton loses honestly one of the only good things going for them in their bottom six in khaira for one season of a goalie that won a cup behind the single best defense in the national hockey league, who's also coming off a pretty tough sophomore slump.

Edm NYR StL trades
that's a pretty good place to start on the dillon trade, but i wonder if stl actually values him significantly higher than a replacement level player. or at least, if they value him higher enough to send futures out.

Hockey deal with Carolina St Louis and Minny with expiring UFAs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>puckhead6130</b></div><div>McCabe has term and can be a good third pair player and play with some grit and needed LD cause Bouwmeester is lost for the year I assume. Sheary is added experience that can play in the top nine and knows what it takes to win in the playoffs. Which IMO equates to a good young forward of some sort and Kyrou is kind of in and out of the lineup so he was my choice.</div></div>
sheary is a middle-6 player that crosby carried to one good season--and he'll only decline over the next five years. he hasn't played a full season in his entire NHL career and has only put up over 35 points once. he's a middle-6 guy who will start declining. mccabe can be an acceptable third pair player, but st louis has a bunch of replacement-level players in the minors (walman, pouliot, mikkola, reinke) to fill that spot. plus mccabe is also 26--in his prime and unlikely to improve.
jordan kyrou is a 21-year-old cost-controlled asset with 42 points in 43 AHL games last season. st louis values him as a future top-6 forward. maybe this trade works for something like sanford but kyrou would require a much better asset coming back, especially considering the state of st louis's farm system without him.

Best Forward on Each Team

ROR is an elite center but tarasenko has put up better possession numbers, expected goals, scoring chance percentages when healthy than ROR. tarasenko outweighs in almost every metric that can be used to predict on-ice success except GP, because he's been injured for a substantial amount of the last two seasons.

there isn't any trade that brings back vince dunn and leaves montreal a contender next season. stl is weak on LD, values dunn as a fringe top-pairing guy, and is in win-now mode.

if you're fine with rebuilding, this is a good attitude. if you want the habs to compete next season, they need to add. they're ten points out of the playoffs with 30 games to go--it is obvious to the rest of the league that this roster cannot win a stanley cup.

pietrangelo will easily get a 10m x 5 and a 9m x 7 offer in free agency. both the money and the term are too low on that deal.
