Strome Mantha and Pacioretty
I think this is one of those trades where the value is fair, but it would take an overpay to get him out of Washington.

Canes get a top 9 forward with some term

I don’t see a world where the Sens, one of the worst teams in the NHL, see a veteran 3rd liner as untouchable.

I'd much prefer to look elsewhere and find someone better. Maybe I'd move a 5th for Joseph, but he wasn't good enough for one team with Stanley Cup aspirations in Tampa, don't think he should be an option for the Canes when the Canes now are deeper than the Lightning were</div></div>
Agree to disagree then. What forwards do you think fit the bill in terms of what Waddell is looking for?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Jospeh's not worth it. His elevated production comes from being shelter with better linemates than he'd get anywhere else. Plus, some sens fans are here trying to tell you he's worth more than that, when the Flyers were asking for a 1st + to take him at the beginning of the year.</div></div>
Well context is important regarding the trade rumors at the beginning of the year. It's not that Joseph is so bad he'd need a pick attached to get off his contract, it's that Ottawa was so desperate to shed salary that they would've had to do that regardless of who it is they were trading. I think Joseph is definitely worth a mid-round pick in terms of his talent.

It was hard for me to get an idea of his value, not a lot of people talking about potential Mathieu Joseph trades online (shocking, I know). What do you think he's worth?

Fix it
As a huge proponent of Saros to Carolina. I like this trade, though I’d hope we wouldn’t give up 2 1sts. Maybe make one of those a 2nd or 3rd instead.
I think a lot of Canes underestimate the value of a truly elite goaltender. Saros is having a down year, but he has played at a Vezina caliber for much of his career up to this point. He is worth the price tag.

One stop shop
I really like this trade for both sides. I think Ferraro is a natural target for the Canes given his remaining term and the many defensive FAs they have coming up. And I’ve been a proponent of Duclair + KK to Carolina for a minute, so I like that part. The 2nd for Duclair seems a bit rich, I think a 3rd is more likely but honestly that’s just splitting hairs.

Obviously these situations don’t compare perfectly, but
Ručinský was part of the package for Roy and Kozlov part of the package for Hašek. Different time and different goalies though, so you may have a point.

Necas for Saros Discussion
Just found this article, seems like Trotz might be more serious about moving Saros than he’s let on.

I absolutely LOVE Zegras as a player, but this still feels a little steep from the Canes side for someone who is a pending RFA.

Canes Quest for the Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>You & I know different things apparently because none of them are going anywhere; and up against the cap - say what? No more than most teams, they have plenty of cap space - moving out superstars rarely results in a win</div></div>
I agree that it is rarely the right move to trade a superstar, but there has to be a balance between star power and depth. Leafs have a little under $10M in cap space, and almost their entire bottom 6 and their starting goalie are free agents. The cap situation isn't dire, but it is definitely dicey.
I still think the new GM is going to look to make his mark on the team, and use one of those 4 as trade bait. Will it be a trade like this? Could very well not be. But I would bet a lot that one of them is gone before next season.

Canes Quest for the Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchJr</b></div><div>I get why the canes would do this (Nylander > Necas) but why would the Leafs? We want to make the team worse next year for a few draft picks 🤯, all indications are Willy extends</div></div>
Leafs are up against the cap and clearly looking to change things up with the big 4. You and I both know that 1 of them is likely gone this offseason, most likely Marner or Nylander. Necas may be slightly worse now, but he is significantly younger and on a much cheaper deal.

Canes Quest for the Cup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Canes pass. Not convinced I'd do Necas for Nylander one for one. Production favors Nylander, but Necas is WAY cheaper, and is an RFA on expiry where Nylander is a UFA.
That's also a really awful offer sheet. Overpay for 1 year to gets the guys rights. Don't offer a fair 4 year deal, the team will match it</div></div>
Fully understand the concerns about the Necas for Nylander deal. However, I think it's important to remember that Necas will only be that much cheaper for one year, and that Nylander is more of a scoring threat than Necas. Definitely overpaid a bit there though, which I think a team will have to do to pry Nylander away from Toronto.
I also thought that Sway offer sheet was an overpay based on most of the projections. Seems like most projections are somewhere from 3.5-4 per year. Probably would make more sense as a 1x5.5 or something though, I get that.
