Why limit ourselves into being contenders for the next 3 years when we could be a good contending team for the next decade or longer? Do your homework, bud.

There are issues yes with the cap and you might have to push for retention down to $7M or $8M. I've looked at the 21/22 season with Kane in the mix. Tight but workable. A few years of contention is better than a decade of no contention or a fringe top 10 team. You seem to think the rebuild will result in a better roster down the road vs what is in this thread. Flawed! You are too afraid to make a move for a star cause you think the future is golden. I like our future but no way I'm going to ignore the roster we have right now today! Replacing Weber and Price won't be easy bud.
A contender for a decade or longer? Who do you think we are? The Pens? Come on man. I love our prospect pool and youth but it's not going to make us contenders for a decade. Give your head a shake

Half the Future? It's a solid price to pay but this is P Kane we are talking about here. The point is winning cups and If that deal was on the table, you make that move. Kane with 3 years left fit Weber and Price good years left.
I prefer not to give up Allen but you got to make the cap work. P Kane bud!!!!!!!

Danault, Caufield, 2021 1st, and one of Kulak or Armia might get it done (Maybe). Would depend on sign/trade with Danault and if he would be willing to sign a team friendly deal for the Jets. ELC/Bridge contracts will be very valuable in the next 2-3 years and Laine will complicate our cap even more. Love to add Laine but Covid Cap is an issue.
To be honest, I rather not trade for Laine at this point. Why? Cause Danault and meh adds won't get it done and I rather keep Caufield, Romanov, Suzuki, KK.

Think of it this way. Armia probably plays 4th line this year. His numbers will be affected and factor in the Covid flat cap for the 2nd season? It's possible Armia can sign for $2M if he wants to stay.
However, he does seem like the logical guy that we will let go. Armia and Byron and probably Tatar too.

Galchenyuk < Domi < Anderson
Anderson is the more complete hockey player. Domi is a solid offensive forward who won't be a physical center and he's not a good fit on wing.
Anderson's size, skating, goal scoring ability (20+) is rare in the NHL today. Habs paid the price to get him and I like the move. Anderson was a team need on wing. Flaws starting to get addressed. Good luck in Columbus Domi!

Full potential, who do you pick? KK or Zukes
They bring different things to the ice. I pick both! Habs fans need to get a reality check, we will have three 2nd lines we can roll. There is no "top line" here people. It's about the match-up game and not many teams can ice three 2nd lines they can roll with a pretty good 4th line too.
I like both Suzuki and Kotkaniemi equally for different reasons. I think there is a chance Kotkaniemi passes Suzuki in the 21-23 age range. Should be interesting to see but both of these kids are hungry to improve. Both working on adding muscle and improving skating.
Some want to unload Danault. Idiots! Keep all 3 of them!

Quoting: OlegP

Can’t move Byron and Allen, it would cost assets in this climate. Wait for expansion. I don’t think Hoffman moves the needle enough to put them over the top.
Team will contend once Kk and Suzuki reach full potential.
Priority should be figuring out Danault salary demands as he can’t sign over 5 million per with allotment of money already given for 2021
Bergevin seemed like he’s done for this season after getting emotional in press conference following Gallagher signing

Not impossible to move Byron and Allen but not easy yes. Hoffman on a 1 year deal helps us! His left handed shot and sniping ability would help our PP. This Habs roster is more complete than I have seen in over a decade or more and I think we are going to give other teams fits! If I can add Hoffman for one year and unload Byron and Allen, I'm doing it! Byron needs to be moved anyways (this year or next). Allen's contract would be attractive to a team like the Hawks or Devils who need goalie help.
Once KK and Suzuki reach full potential, Weber is gone and Price is 35+. Waiting is stupid when the Habs have a great mix of youth, mid core, and vets.
Danault negotiations is probably about term more than AAV. He's worth more than $5M but not more than $6M. He's somewhere between Pageau and Nelson on the Islanders. But once again, term could be an issue. Bergevin is going to play hard ball on that and he should! Danault probably plays the final year of his contract before we give into his demands. Solid piece we need with our young centers mix but yeah, ideally, His AAV should be around $5M. I expect something like 3 years at $5.5M. If he thinks that is in an insult, good luck with free agency! Circle back when other teams tell him the same!
Bergevin is not done 100%. Adding Hoffman does seem like it won't happen but you never know. Did you expect Toffoli to sign that team friendly deal? I bet you Habs fans thought Bergevin was done before that too! Bergevin said it's like a 7/11... always open for business. Another 2+ months of off season to go.

- That is a verifiable fact
- That is not a BS opinion
- That is not exaggeration
- I'm not wrong in any sense

Here's my quote: "95% of players massively regress way before they turn 35."
Here are the facts: There will be a max of 31 players over the age of 34 in the NHL next season (excluding goalies).
- That number includes signed 35+ and unsigned 35+ players (who played last season)
- That's a maximum of one 35+ player per team (and each team has a 23 player roster)
- 1 out of 23 = 4.3% which means that only 4.3% of NHL players are 35 or older
- Which means that 95.7% of players regressed into retirement by age 35.
- 95.7% of players is around 95% of players no?
- That is a verifiable fact
- That is not a BS opinion
- I'm not wrong in any sense
- You owe me an apology mister
Toronto currently has:
- Spezza (36), Simmonds (32), Andersen (31), Bogosian (30), Muzzin (30)
- And all these players have appropriate cap-hits and terms.
- Gallagher, Anderson, Weber, Petry and Price do not.
- And they'll all become anchors, just like Alzner.
And you need anger management mister

Keep trying. Gallagher will be fine and you will be wrong. Can't believe you are comparing Spezza, Simmonds, Andersen, Bogisian to Gallagher. What a joke. I'm not angry, I'm calling out your BS. Let me guess, you are a Leafs fan eh. If the Leafs signed Gallagher to that contract, you would consider it the signing of the year! lol
Tavares is signed till 34 ($11M). You are going to have a huge problem with him from 30-34 eh! Like Gallagher right?
Others signed till 34 or more with higher or similar cap hits vs Gallagher... Stone, Voracek, Couture, Lee, Kreider, Schenn. Many, many more!

You are cherry picking. Some decline faster than others but most top 6 talent have solid years from 29-34. The ones not committed to staying in tip top shape are the ones who fall faster than others. Gallagher is a fitness freak. You are way to negative on this. In fact, there are more players who maintain their level of play from 30-35 vs the ones who drop fast like Gomez types. And each players situation is different. You are trying to create a linear approach which is flawed!
Every team needs key vets from 30-35. I think many overlook that. Leafs and Oilers need pieces like this.
40 pts player BS!!!!!! I called you out on it and you have two choices. Admit you were wrong or keep arguing against something that is fact! You provided another BS opinion... 95%? Where did you pull that number from? Exaggeration don't help your case bud! I think you need to spend more than 5 min of research but you won't! You are stuck on a flawed stance and continue on. Romanov is a good one! Be picky on his game and it's hard to find flaws. Romanov will start last pairing with one of Kulak or Juulsen. Hard to say if Romanov plays LD or RD. Mete is depth at this stage.
Romanov likely gains momentum as he gets his NHL feet wet as the season goes along... like Suzuki last year. Romanov is strong, skates well, and reliable in his own end. Julien will love this kid just like Suzuki. Guys like Suzuki and Romanov are obsessed with Hockey and hungry to improve. They go the "it" factor and you can clearly see it
Will Romanov get to play with Weber? Maybe depending on team match-ups and how he progresses. Worse case, he's on the bottom pairing the full season with some PK and PP time mixed in here and there to test him.
