First round prospects? You mean 1st round busts right? Mcleod and bahl have minimal value on their best day, like 4th rounders

Looks like a reasonable swap to me. Those 2 goalies are probably the closest you could get to an exact comparable in terms of performance this year (and similar contracts too)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>How is that the Eichel package? You are comparing Ritchie to Tuch</div></div>
No hes not. What he means by “Eichel Package” is the amount of assests returning. In the Eichel deal, there was 4 assests, which included a player that could slot into the lineup now, a prospect would could slot into the lineup now or the following season, and 2 high round draft picks, ideally a 1st round and 2nd round pick. A lot of hickey insiders have reported that if a Chychrun trade were to happen, that a trade structured like the Eichel trade would be the most likely scenario

1st round exit or cup champs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hazard</b></div><div>I agree with mostly everything except for 2 points.
Smith is locked up to 2 years, and Holland is devoted to keeping him. Its either MAF and smith punch or the MAF trade doesnt happen at all.
You're right that CHI holds all the cards here. Which is why I think the 3rd will be necessary for the trade, however if you look at the blackhawks roster, and who they have expiring, its only MAF and Kubalik of note this ear, which means they will 100% use their retention spots on them</div></div>
MAF 100%... Unless they go full on rebuild and there is heavy interest in Kane and/or Toews and they are willing to waive. In which case, they will need to utilize those retention slots for them absolutely. But Kub's... the pot would probably have to be pretty sweet for them to give him up because of his affordability, upside, and age. I would think they would want to keep him around as long as possible. But then again, with an interim GM and a directive to rebuild and get as many picks and prospects as possible, he definitely could be on the block come TDL. I still think the pot would have to be pretty darn sweet for them to move him but yeah it's possible.

I know MAF hasn't looked great this season. But the Hawks were also playing horribly in front of him. That and all the stuff going on around the team was probably having an indirect effect on morale all around. I'll bet that any goalie in the league would have floundered behind the Hawks those first 12 games with the way they were playing.
That being said, if the hawks are sellers at the deadline they probably don't use their only two retention slots left on those two unless it's last minute and there isn't any interest in anyone else. Also, Oilers fans might want to consider a MAF and Koskinen 1-2 punch for playoffs and propose some other pieces for him. His contract is up after the season, so it's not like you'd be locked into anything long term that would put you in big cap trouble. And the Hawks don't really NEED to get rid of anything, which would give them the upper hand in any TDL deals.

With some degree of protection on one or both of the firsts I can see it. Maybe 2022 is top 5 protected and 2023 is just top 2. Idk tho, still seems kinda low for Petey but better than Kane + spare parts + first that was suggested elsewhere.

change of scenery maybe
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Monahan had a major hip surgery in the offseason, think about how Seabrook was playing because he needed double hip surgery. He's slowly been regaining his form but Toews at the end of the day is still an upgrade over him.
Would you do say less retention and make it a 1st and a good prospect? (not any of Wolf, Zary, Coronato, or Pelletier. But someone like Francis, Ruzicka, Kuznetsov, Poirier, Gawdin, Heineman)</div></div>
Thanks for the update on Monahan.
Its really interesting this topic come up. I was only talking with one of my good mates who is a Flames guy and he asked if we would consider moving one of Toews or Kane with how poor we were going. My response was that I don't see any big moves happening whilst there is an interim GM in place. Not because I don't think he has it in him but more from the ownership side requesting they keep them around. I too share that sentiment that I wouldn't like to see either in different colours but lets say hypothetically it was on the table. I would think the organisation would want Monahan in the discussions as for a prospect and or pick that would be the debatable scenario. Giving up Toews face-offs, leadership (winning culture) and overall skill which is still quite high is a tough pill and Monahan doesn't cover all that so a Prospect would want to be high or the pick would need to be high or both.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hazard</b></div><div>Just a thought that came to my head. I think if this trade were to happen it would be something like Toews+Strome for Monahan+A/B level Prospect+Pick.
I really don't know what's going on with Monahan. He also doesn't / hasn't adapted to Sutter's system yet which is why I think he's gone.
As for Toews, the trade would obviously be done once CHI has a perma GM, and if Toews wants a change of scenery from all the scandal stuff coming out.
Still curious if they are potential partners or if Monahan will get shipped to Seattle lol</div></div>
Yes all very good points. It is a hard one for me because of what Toews has done tho if he did want a release, the club would grant him that request I believe. As for the return that is tough as I alluded in the post above. Monahan would certainly be involved, then it would come down to picks and prospects and how its broken down. I would preferably want a higher end prospect rather than a pick. Whether CGY would be open to doing that I'm not sure. There could be retention if the pick is of High End potential.
Also, we would have to be continuing down the path we started this year tho early signs are suggesting we already hit rock bottom and its onwards and upwards from here. Time will tell
