Fleury had an NMC and reportedly told Rutherford the only team he wanted to go to was Vegas, so he waived his NMC to be exposed in the expansion draft. However, Bryan Rust was also exposed and Vegas apparently told the Penguins they were taking Bryan Rust to force them to give up something for Vegas to take Fleury, fulfilling Fleury's wish which clearly was a great choice.

agree but I think for that reason Kapanen is more valuable and Buffalo would need to add. I also think Kapanen has been a better fit on his line with Kerfoot and Mikheyev than Johnsson has been on his line

no, you trade Johnsson to get better on defence, that's the whole point of the ACGM. I'm saying moving Johnsson for a defenceman would open up a spot for cheap players who've looked good to get an elevated role in the lineup. Leafs don't need to have full lines stay together, there's three duos: Matthews - Nylander, Tavares - Marner, Kerfoot - Kapanen. guys like Hyman, Engvall, Moore, Petan, Engvall can all play LW and play their role well on any of the 4 lines. I may be incorrect in saying Johnsson is overpaid for his performance but I believe I'm in the majority who would rather pay his money to an actually good RHD instead of Ceci

Dubnyk wasn't horrible in Edmonton because he was the issue, the teams were so bad he was never able to develop properly and gain confidence. Also, I hate the "the wouldn't have picked him" excuse for not drafting someone. Barzal should've went top 10. Edmonton would've been just as stupid to not pick him as they were to trade the pick

state taxes is something the media talks about way more than players care about. it's not a big factor in negotiations. especially if the player wants to play in a specific destination, they don't care about the taxes if they'll enjoy living and playing in the city. Stone wanted to live and play in Vegas, state tax is just a bonus. Florida and Arizona also have no state tax, we don't see big-name free agents going there. also, Canadian players who live in Canada make American dollars. 9.5m USD is the equivalent of 12.667 CAD
