He did, but i think Ekblad, Gudas, and Montour having injuries put Mahura in a tough spot. In a way, this was his first full season and I am sure he learned a lot from the whole playoffs. I think he is on the up and will continue to improve.

This move helps NYR with cap space, and doesn’t give the Wings anything better then what is available in free agency.</div></div>
Why overpay free agency when you get a player you know from Tampa to fulfill a checking role? Not that it matters much for this scenario as I said Goodrow would be traded to whatever team.

Panthers Trying to Trade Bob
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>Even at 6.275m, the panthers are going to need to add a sweetener to move bob. He was good this year, but was very not good the two years prior, and there is a pretty high chance he will be bad for all four of the last years of his contract. He won the vezina twice, but Karlsson won two norris trophies and you don't see people lining up to trade for his contract, even retained. Holtby won a vezina and was a runner up, and he will probably get 2x2. In addition, everyone knows that FLA has to get rid of him and doing so would allow them to keep more important players and make additions to the roster.
While Duclair is a better player on a cheaper contract than Mantha, I really doubt that NHL GM's think that way. The Caps already attached assets to a similar type of player in Vrana to get Mantha, I don't see them flipping him again for that type of speedy shooting winger. The caps also have a ton of cap space and need to upgrade their top 6, so trading away a top 6 player for a different one doesn't make the most sense when they could keep both.
Finally, Hathaway will not be moved as just a throw in to some larger trade. The team and management love him, he's coming off a career year, and only has 1 year left on his contract. It would take a stupid overpay or a massive upgrade to move him, which this is not.</div></div>
Thank you for a very well thought out reply and giving a different perspective. I think you are undervaluing what the Panthers are giving away and how badly the Caps need a goalie. Free agency is not offering an exceptional goalie. Kuemper may be worth a shot, but if he wins the Cup the Avs may pay up to keep him. If not them, someone else and over $6M I don't think that he is worth it for five years. The rest are all backups with the exception of Campbell who will likely re-sign with the Leafs. No goalie is really available on the trade market, at least at a worthwhile price.
So the Caps can address this glaring weakness by acquiring a goalie and getting extra in return because the Panthers really want to deal him (although I would keep him one more year). In return they also get a very good scoring winger, and a very good prospect that can blossom on that team, and they need some scoring youth.
In the end, they give up an expensive winger who did not really fit in, a back up which they don't need, and a depth player that by all means, as you said, is valuable but not irreplaceable. That for a very good prospect, a solid goalie, and a scoring winger with speed.
I think it's worth it.

NYR Acquiring Eichel Scenario
Hahaha, Barkov is not going anywhere.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Shakabakes</b></div><div>Sabres wouldn't accept. But I really don't think Rangers need to pull off an Eichel trade, anyway.
Strome has maintained a strong level of play (with and without Panarin). Zibenejad found his game in tremendous fashion. And Chytil gradually continues to improve. With those Top 3 Centers set (amidst a group of youngsters that have drastically improved over the course of this shortened Season), they really don't need to make a move.
Keep all the pieces together (with Lundkvist, Jones and Barron joining the party soon) and stay the course. After 21-22, when they debate whether to keep Zibenejad and Strome, then perhaps they can contemplate a Center trade when there is a greater need.
Also a possibility Hertl (meh) and Barkov (YESSSS!!!) could hit Free Agency and become options to bring in without pulling off a trade.</div></div>

You would give Fs to all those trades, of all those star players, and would be saying the same thing. If I were to propose those trades before they actually happened, you would not call them fair.
Don't expect Eichel to fetch something much better than what I put in there.

Remove the other two pieces, and just make it for eichel, and it’s still not fair.
What you’ve done is take a whole bunch of pieces you don’t hate losing, and packaged them together. Not going to work. If you’re trading for jack eichel, there’s going to have to be a piece going the other way that hurts. Don’t tell me it’s lundkvist. He’s an okay prospect, nothing more.
Just for eichel it would take one of kakko or lafreniere, who have both looked brutal, a first, and one of the top prospects, and probably something else.
This offer is really low.</div></div>
It's not, and all star players with huge contracts never get the return that you expect. That is a fact. You are also way off on Lundkqvist who had an excellent season and is touted as one of the best, maybe the best, young dmen in Sweden. You are way off there.

How so? Up and coming 21 year old center. A proven center. One of the best touted young dmen in Sweden. A solid goalie who is still young. A depth center who is still 21...22.
Big stars with huge contracts have, historically, returned very little compared to that.

His next deal should be less.</div></div>
Crawford did fairly well. Not all on him, but Delia is so-so and Lankinen is not proven. So, a troubling defense and a questionable goalie tandem? It's very very very risky. And at 27 years of age he will hit the market and get a big deal. No way he is getting less.

Why would he do that? Goaltending was not stable last season. It's quite a dire need, I would think....? Too risky. It would not make sense because if they are entertaining offers to trade him then why sign him?
From TheFourthPeriod:
Chicago entertained the thought of moving Saad during the season, and it’s possible he remains available this fall. He’s in the final-year of his contract, which comes with a $6 million cap hit, and the Blackhawks could benefit from added cap space.

Hawks are fine against the cap right now. Moving Maatta, Smith as of now remains on LITR and if activated likely gets buried to the AHL, and Crow is not re-singing. Hawks have a $11M+ to sign Kubalik and Strome which is more then enough.</div></div>
Good luck getting a reliable starting goalie and having the cap space. If they are trying to unload Saad's salary, what do you think they'll do....re-sign him? Makes no sense.
Who do you think they can go for in terms of goalies? Plenty of options, but pricey too.

Duclair a jerk and not likable at all. He'll find a job on a low production team for the money. That's all there is to know about his attitude. A playoff team with a harmonious locker room would be foolish to add him.

Reports said that they're trying to move him. An upcoming UFA in 2021, he won't be re-signing. Obviously the Panthers can add a pick and a prospect, but the Hawks need to slash salary and getting a capable 20 goal scorer in return who is younger and cheaper works out.

And what would that solve for them? Getting the 1st overall pick would mean getting Strome, at best and that's it. It is a team in need of depth for next season and the ones after. Not a rookie 1st overall that may not even pan out, and little then. They need pieces now. They are losing a lot of depth to free agency this off-season.
I don't think demanding the 1st overall fixes anything for them. Other than finding themselves back to square 1 when they drafted Eichel and failing since.

It could be better structured, but the idea is fairly realistic, I think.
