Definitely going for Bedard with a move like that 🤣</div></div>
Prospects like Norlinder, Harris, Xhekaj, Guhle (who I included in trade but could’ve included someone else) need playing time. Montreals not competing for a cup anytime soon so who cares if the defence isn’t good

True; I think Montreal would also consider trading their 2023 pick for Tkachuk with a top 5 protection attached to it (where if the pick is in the top 5 then Calgary gets the 2024 pick. I agree in reality Montreal would probably trade for Dubois but I think with Suzuki and Dach already there, not to mention Dvorak who isn’t terrible either I don’t see why they need more depth at centre. They didn’t trade for Dach to have him be the #3 behind Suzuki and Dubois

October Roster Offseason Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BobbyD</b></div><div>Islanders aren’t giving a first to get Eberle back. I don’t think that’s even allowed.</div></div>
I think it is allowed if I'm not mistaken; it's only considered cap circumvention if salary is retained when trading the player back to the same team if I'm not mistaken (ex. if Seattle were to select Carey Price and then immediately trade him to Montreal with 50% retained salary for a 1st round pick). Ottawa tried to reacquire Marc Methot after the Vegas expansion draft and I don't remember there being any rules preventing it.

October Roster Offseason Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gmonwy</b></div><div>You can't retain on the official pick like on Montréal's pick of Drouin</div></div>
Not disputing this, however, I did hear someone on Sportsnet (I think it was Friedman, but don't quote me on it being him for sure) bring up the possibility of Seattle taking on Drouin if Montreal were to retain salary, so I think there must be some kind of loophole through trade that would make it possible.

When's Bouchard gonna make the team then. The guy was drafted like 5 years ago, and he was an older draft pick to begin with (late birth date so he just missed eligibility for the prior draft).

1) Not sure if you've seen but Tatar has been healthy scratched multiple times this year by Montreal. Not sure that's a great look before free agency.
2) Larsson and Barrie get that easily on the open market so unless you want to lose them for free and start a rebuild you don't really have much of an option. It's really not a big deal, you can easily afford it anyway.

Agreed. If Kempny can get back to being consistently healthy that could make a huge difference for the team next year. Add in some young guys and that might actually improve the team via subtraction of older, slower bodies.

As a Capitals fan, I'll give you 3 firsts + McMichael + Alexeyev + take your pick of Samsonov/Vanecek for McDavid. If the Caps don't go the retool route, McDavid could obviously be a quick and easy solution to make this team a huge cup contender next year.

As silly as it might sound, I'm not sure that New Jersey would even do this trade. They literally just made Hischier captain and as good as McDavid is, the young players they'll get from 2 more decent 1st round picks will probably help them more than McDavid and the subtraction of Hischier would.

Agreed; I think Monahan would be a good fit too. I think sending Kuznetsov to Seattle for expansion draft favours +++ (as I did in my own armchair GM team) would be the best solution. You can sign a similar-fitting player to Monahan like Danault in the offseason or find one via another trade.

1) Should probably be getting a 1st or 2 2nds from CBJ + that return.
2) Can't be letting TJ Oshie go; he should retire with Washington and is still an effective player anyway.
3) We can't be sending Garnet Hathaway to the Rangers. That's the last place we should be sending any gritty, tough players.

Drain the swamp
If you're going to blow the team up it should be for a legitimate rebuild, not to become a borderline playoff team that's not going anywhere. Either way, Carlson, Ovechkin, Samsonov, Wilson, Orlov are far from being the problem for the Caps.

Playoffs still, but maybe a small step back to let the kids play and then take a step forward the year after for one more run at the cup.

I like it. Definitely time to give opportunities to Fehervary, Alexeyev, McMichael. Would even like to see Sprong play a little bit in the top 6 I think he has some untapped potential.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by causing problems considering he handled his desire for a trade the right way (unlike Pierre-Luc Dubois for example) and hasn't really been the cause of any issues in Columbus apart from talking back to the assistant coach in his third game. Just because you get benched doesn't mean you're causing a problem.

2) The memo isn't that he's worth a 2nd, it's that him + conditional picks are worth more than Iafallo since Kerfoot has another year of term at an alright cap hit while Iafallo is about to become a UFA.

Frederic is a former 1st round pick who scored at the AHL level. He's breaking into the league in a similar manner to how Tom Wilson did with the Capitals; the top 9 - top 6 level scoring will come.
