I understand your point. I disagree with him being untouchable for your roster. The untouchable guys to me are Matthew, Marner and Willie and throw in Reilly. Those guys will always keep you contenders and they are younger. I understand that Knies could be a cheaper add on to those guys. I would maybe focus money on the back end to get them up to snuff with the forwards. I would like to hear from you what you would want the package to look like. I would offer GusBus and Spurgeon retained over the next 2 and 3 years for Knies. You would have a goalie tandem of Gus and Woll. Spurgeon goes a long ways on that back end with Reilly. Spurgeon is a 35-50 point guy on the right side and a goalie that could be up there as a Vezna candidate. Does this type of offer move the needle for you as a contender? Maybe throw one of our LHD prospects in because we have a lot of them int he same development spot.

Ok Toronto fans are going to chew this deal up and spit it out. Here's the issue that fans need to realize. Knies was on the 1st line for part of the season with Matthews and only put up 36 points. Based on value and what he can be, Knies couldn't even fetch Rossi anymore without Toronto adding to that deal. I don't mind the trade above and giving a bit more to pry a younger asset from them. I would see if any veteran would be willing to waive the NMC and us retain half on a deal. So maybe a Foligno/Hartman added with us keeping half their contract. But I don't think this trade is as far off as fans will say it is. The Faber for Knies and a 1st is wild. The 25th overall pick and Knies doesn't equal Faber.

Also, every year that goes by without them going for it means they are wasting the roster away. I look at the Penguins as the team that got the most out of their superstars. I think the Leafs need to take the same approach. I think their D-core is pretty bad. Maybe a Spurgeon could help them on the right side. I think getting Knies would be huge for us tho, I think GusBus/Spurgeon could be on the move this summer. We need to get a younger and bigger right handed d-man in there.

I agree, I've done a few of these mock trades and people always say Wild aren't giving up enough. I'm overpaying a bit to get these trades to go through. And ultimately, some of these guys aren't going to hit. The Boldy move is a massive gamble but Ek and Rossi aren't going to be in the top end of the league in those positions. I think Celebrini gives us the next MacKinnon/Crosby type for the next 15 years. Pair that with Kaprizov and upcoming wingers, I like that start.

On the Sharks deal I really only wanted to do Boldy and our 1st. Heidt is kind of a get the deal done. Not sure if Shark fans have seen the post but no one is saying no from their side.

The Toronto deal was really a Rossi for Knies and a 1st. I want to dump some of that cap space to sign guys like Faber and others. If we get more for Spurgeon in that deal, I would take it. Maybe another prospect or a higher pick than the 3rd.

The other trades I tried to be realistic. With GusBus recent play his value goes up. If we get a 1st or maybe 2nds i think you take it. Zucc for Burns seems like a no brainier. Zucc is still a high producing player. If we could target a right hand defenseman to replace Spurgeon I would take that.

Honestly, I would probably be more open to trading Boldy than Faber. Just because we have a few wingers coming up that may be able to replace Boldy. Ohgren and Yurov are supposed to be pretty good. I would counter with that but you don't get as many picks back probably.

I would agree in most cases, but the two things that came to my mind when doing that trade was cap space vs production. The fact you guys have no RD that plays at the level Spurgeon does. The window for Toronto is closing with each season. You have 4 super star forwards and aren't competing for the cup. I root for you each year the Wild get bounced in the First Round. Knies could fit in a young version of the Wild on a second line with Ek who plays a similar game to him. We retained salary for you to build out that roster over the next 3 years and win a championship. Spurgeon would be close to Reilly for you guys. He's been a star with us. Once again, the only reason we trade him is our window isn't in the next 2 years as we have $15 mill in dead cap space. Why waste his talents. He will be 35 when we try to start competing. Why would you want 18 year olds on Toronto when you are competing for a Cup? You're probably right, but it's an Arm-Chair GM, I make swings that try to better both teams.

What does? He plays 3rd pairing D on a stacked d-core. He doesn't have stats that pop out to you. I don't look at points because that wouldn't be fair. I targeted him because he is young, could play behind Faber on a 2nd pairing and replace Spurgeon. In giving up Zucc, we are giving up a point per game player over the past 3 years. He is on a reasonable $4 million dollar contract for the next 2 years and has played for you in the past. I could see him fitting in very well and boosting that 2nd line and helping you guys in the playoffs. Only reason I consider moving Zucc on a team friendly deals, is because of his age and our window isn't the next 2 years. Idk, maybe you guys love his game, I look at how the Penguins ran their franchise for almost 20 years with Crosby. Why keep picks or prospects if you can go get proven results. If this trade went though, and you won a cup. How would you feel?

Thats fair, I think he may be the most untouchable piece on our roster. I have a question for you and other fans. What is your window, or how long until this roster actually gets really good? For example, because the Wild are minus $15 mill in cap space, our window couldn't begin for another 2 years. Thats why I would move a guy like Zucc. I see the Sharks window being 3-5 years away, maybe a bit longer. Because of that, I don't think Faber would help a ton for the next 3 years. If you were to trade back this year and get a potential 1-2c and is young, with 2 first round picks. In 3-5 years Rossi is still 25-27 and is in his prime. You get 2 first rounders on top of it to get other talented pieces. I think you are right though, my brain just goes to what that pick will do for you guys. Pick Celebrini, let him sit in the NCAA another year, hopefully start building a roster out for protect him. He isn't Bedard where he was a lock to be a star. If he doesn't pan out to be that guy, you are even further back from being competitive. And if you can't surround him with talent he doesn't develop properly. Just my thoughts and rants. But ultimately that pick doesn't move and you guys get an exciting piece for the future!

I've been taking a lot of heat for the trades I've put out. I try to keep both teams in mind when making a trade. I don't think Knies ceiling is as high as I want. He was a gopher and I'm a big fan. But he hardly produces on a line with Matthews, you basically walk into points on his line. I think he could be an effective 2nd line producer and have a very successful career. My thought was to get Spurgeon on a contender and still have 3-4 good years left. Retain salary so they can make other moves to round out their roster. With this direction the Wild could afford it and get a guy I think would fit in well on a line with Ek.

I'm not as high on Schneider as the Ranger fans are. I get the not wanting to take Zucc but he solves their problems for the next 2 years and have other assets to trade to round out that team. Kappo could be a valuable piece to move to potentially get a decent return. It's less than Ranger fans think. But with their current d-core, I see Schneider being expendable. With the current roster they could be contenders with someone like Zucc on that 2nd line drivng plays. He just doesn't fit our window.

I get the 1st overall hate. No one trades that pick. I'll take the heat but BG needs to get aggressive. Rossi is having a huge year and one we all wish came sooner. The only reason I want to take a swing is for a player that could be a Top 5 center in the league instead of Top 15 potentially. The odds are Minnesota sucks the rest of the season as we just got blown out, we pick 10th and get lucky to get Buium to go next to Faber. And the years just keep going by. If I was GM I would take a massive swing.

Thats fair on Holtz. In terms of Fleury, it's his last season on the contract, cap isn't an issue. Wallstedt will come up next season although our AHL team is trash. It makes sense to have him up here and away from that situation. I don't disagree with the Foligno take. I don't love the term, but the AAV isn't an issue for me. He's been a huge part of our chemistry and success here. He's an Assistant captain and usually stands up for the team. He's much more appreciated in the playoffs. But the Wild need to retool so he could be a casualty.

Breaking this down as a Wild fan. I agree this is an overpay. Middleton will require an overpay to obtain him and he is better than a 3rd pairing d. He could play number 1 minutes and has for us. Foligno just signed to stay here, but he is a playoff type guy. Is gritty and has found his offensive touch here the past few weeks. Fleury is a wildcard. He would have to consider and ask for the move. We love him here and he's showing better than a back up. If a team's starter has been slumping, I could see him carrying a team in the playoffs. I would expect a deal to look like this:

Fleury - a conditional pick. Is a 3rd but if the team reaches the ECF's it turns into a 2nd. Something along the lines. Maybe not a 3rd but some kind of condition to the pick.
Foligno - if he approves a move. his cap hit is fair, I could see a 2nd and mid level prospect as a return.
Middleton - overpayment, a 1st and low level prospect/NHLer

I'll be honest, I haven't watched much of the Devils this season. I got a bit burned out with the Fiala to Devils drama a few years back. Is Holtz the player you guys thought he would be? He's still young but if you traded him and got a player that is there and helps you win playoff series, would that be a massive issue? What are the expectations of the fan base right now and in the next 3 years?

I agree. I think this type of return makes sense if BG has been told Kaprizov wants to move on from Minnesota. If this type of trade landed us the number 1 pick and we were picking say, 3rd overall for our own pick, I could see that making sense. We get Celebrini and Eiserman with an exciting future. But the trade right now doesn't make sense. I don't think you were far off in terms of value. It's a super star that is happy at the moment in a state where we haven't had super stars. Fans will get touchy on this type of move. But I think it's pretty fair and realistic. Also, his NTC starts this summer.

I don't think they need to trade him. I think a younger 2c that is a bit more dynamic would be beneficial. But the AVs are loaded. I haven't watched many Avs games this year. Getting Landy back next year will provide a huge boost to this team. Thats a massive piece and identity piece to your org.

But the Wild need a few KEY bad season to really make the jump. Imagine Celebrini with Kaprizov and Boldy. Rossi on the 2nd line and Ekkers as the most elite number 3c in history. That changes things quite a bit. I think the Wild need 2-3 more key pieces before they really contend. I would rather see it through the draft.

I can agree with Byram's value dropping. I don't think it should, but health is a big part of making a trade. He's a hell of a player and talent. I don't think the fit is right and really the Wild wouldn't want to move on from Ekkers. Hes been big for us and is playing well with Kap and Boldy. For any team to get Ek, it would take a monumental over pay and for a division rival, even more.

So the Wild need to trade their no 1 center to the Avs for a Defensemen that misses significant time each year. A late 1st rounder is the main piece in 2 years. A 2nd in 3 years. Tufte that has played 18 NHL games. And a prospect that is averaging .33-.5 points per game in the AHL. This is the type of return Ek gets on an amazing contract for the next 5+ years? If thats the case, we got lots of goodies for MacKinnon. And this trade doesn't compare to what Eichel and Eichel was going to have a very controversial surgery that hasn't been seen in the NHL. There was talk he might only be 75% of what he was.
