limited wear on his treads, though - never played more than 40 games per year in the KHL, and this year is the first NHL year starting more than 2/3 of the games.

As far as contract values: Wahlstrom is probably a little high (his bridge deal will be lower based on his injury) and Mayfield is very low, to me. He's 30 and this is likely his one swing at free agency - I can't see him taking another team friendly deal when worse players than him are signing $4M+ deals. I thank him for his time and wish him the best in his next stop.

For sure, for sure. However, based on this hypothetical team's hypothetical trajectory, I would estimate a 41-31-10 season and just missing the playoffs.

The caps are bad, and they’ve looked bad. Is it a shock that the 8 seed in the east who lost their number one center might miss the playoffs?
Tampa has looked brutal. Boston has looked pretty good even with half their roster.

None of this is particularly shocking.

i totally can see boston being above tampa and caps missing it. people dont seem to realize that actually change from year to year. people here seem to just expect the same outcome every year.
